Synthroid and eye problems

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and eye problems

synthroid

Avatar n tn The eye problems are likely not directly related to your thyroid problems or the replacement hormones you are taking. They sound like they are caused by Graves Eye Disease (also known as Thyroid Eye Disease) which is caused by different anti-bodies than the ones that caused your Graves Thyroid Disease. These antibodies cause a fat-like substance to be deposited in the muscles behind the eyes, which eventually push the eye out of the socket, causing the characteristic stare.
Avatar f tn I recently underwent radioactive iodine treament and have now been toying with various thyroid medicines. I have tried the generic levothyroxine and now i am on the brand synthroid. my eyes seem to be swelling in a circle around my actual eye ball and i am curious if this is an allergic reaction to the synthetics in the medicines. if so what should i do?? thanks.
Avatar m tn I asked both of my eye doctors about a potential correlation between my eyelid swelling/pressure issues and the underactive thyroid and both seem to indicate there is no link and the only eye pressure issue would result from hyperthyroidism, not hypothyroidism. Is this an accurate assessment from my eye doctors or is it worthwhile to seek an additional opinion? Thank you for your time, this website has proven to be very helpful!
Avatar m tn Getting your hormones under control can be very hard to do after a hysterectomy. I personally would think about using the testosterone. It does look like you need more estrogen. Yes, I have heard of several women on this forum who have thyroid problems either before or after the surgery. How are you doing on the synthroid? It's important to keep on eye on all of your levels, not just TSH. Did they check that along with FT3, FT4, and antibodies?
Avatar f tn t feel stressed despite working two jobs. I did have an annoying eye twitch during and after a stressful two weeks while working at a camp. Anyone else with muscle twitching?
2214413 tn?1339310281 Hi I am a 17 year old and I was recently diagnosed with hypothroidism out of the blue. I actually discovered it from lots of hair loss then soon I was becoming very weak in my weights class for football. After struggling with it for a wile I convinced my mom to take me to the endochronologist. My TSH was off so she put me on synthroid. Its been two months and my hairloss still hasn't resolved its self, my scalp is very itchy and has some bumps.
Avatar f tn I am getting confused at where my TSH levels should end up when they rise and once I am on Synthroid. I have copies of past blood work from before I was having problems with Graves disease symptoms and my TSH seemed okay for me between 1.7 to 2.5. I know at those times I felt fine; my only issue was when my TSH was 2.5 or higher that my cholesterol levels (LDL) were out of range. TSH over 2.5 for me I always had hypothyroid symptoms in the past.
Avatar n tn Two important bits of information I forgot - I'm 50, but in very good health, exercise regularly - only health issue is low thyroid which I've taken synthroid for since I was 20 and have a blood test done every year. Secondly, I did have LASIK surgery about 7 years ago, but have had no problems before this - have monovision and its still holding quite well.
Avatar f tn I am having tremendous pain in the right side of my neck that radiates to my jaw, ear, eye, and face. Sometimes my face becomes puffy on the right side only, and I have enlargement of the right pupil, vision changes, and ringing in my ears (worse on the right) with this. The pain is always worse at night than in the morning. The doctors I've seen for this all agree that there is probably irritation/compression of a sympathetic nerve in my neck.
1033165 tn?1309435416 I have no thyroid at all in by body. Had large goiters in 2002 and had one side and middle area removed and then in 2007 had the other side removed for same reason.
Avatar n tn Actually.. I do have eye twitching and I have been on Synthroid for 7 days. Maybe a symptoms!!
Avatar f tn I have a stint in because the lupus caused me to have blockage to my heart. I take prednisone, synthroid, Raneka, topamax, synthroid, premarin, metoprolol, premarin, lexapro, plavix, baby aspirin. I would love to be able to get Lazik eye surgury. 620695 tn?1221490231 I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in May. I have gone Hypo & am now on 100mcg of Synthroid & ?? Cytomel. I have been on this dosage since Aug. 2 and am still suffering with extreme fluid retension on my face, fatiguem weight gain, & vision problems. I am most worried about my vision. Besides constantly 'weeping' due to the fluid, I am having great difficulty focusing.
Avatar f tn Yesterday, I walked for about 50 minutes outside in sunshine while wearing sunglasses and had no problems. I have normal blood pressure and normal eye pressure. I have been told in the past that I have thin sclera. I take .15 mg of Synthroid plus vitamins daily. I do have stress dealing with an 18-year-old son who has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and possible Asperger's Syndrom. Why would I suddenly develop opthalmic migraines now?
Avatar f tn ve been on the thyroid support supplements and other vitamins for 2 months, 10,000 units of D3 for 6 months, and 25 mcg of Synthroid for 9 days. About two weeks before starting the Synthroid my thyroid was beginning to enlarge, and it is continuing to do so. It is a bit firm but not sore. Is this common with Hashi patients and will the Synthroid shrink it back down? Is this something I should be concerned about? Thanks all!
489786 tn?1255692879 I had my thyroid removed in Dec. and have been taking synthroid since. My dr. added cytomel in Feb. I have gained 45 lbs, I am losing my hair ( I have lost half of my hair), but the WORST is my face and eyes are swollen!! I look in the mirror and I don't recognize myself. My doctor says my bloodwork levels are in normal range. Why am I still having these horrible symtoms?? I am leaving out the headaches, no energy and the fact that I can't focus on anything!!! Any advice for me?
Avatar m tn I am on Armour and I am one of the ones who didn't benefit from Synthroid - you are very lucky your found Synthroid to work best for you - it is the thyroid drug of choice and many doctors will not continue Armour if you need to change to someone else. Go back to what works - and the question is still ot there - Why did you try it if Synthroid was working?
Avatar f tn Is it strange though that for 7 years I have had zero symptoms related to thyroid and then I start Synthroid and now I have all these symptoms? Or do I have the symptoms now because my thyroid went from 3.64 to 0.596? I feel I shouldn't have even started the Synthroid if I was symptom free...but I had read somewhere that if you have Thyroid Antibodies which I do, a low level of Synthroid can keep the Hashimotos at bay or something to that effect.
8170270 tn?1413845335 I expect that you are overdue for an increase, and that your Free T4 and Free T3 are too low in their ranges. We need for you to call and get your test results and reference ranges and post them in order for us to give you a better assessment of your status.
Avatar f tn d also 2nd the idea of demanding to go back onto name brand synthroid since you think that worked without any problems and get off the generic.
Avatar n tn Is there anything I should know about how to take my Synthroid, 75 mcg and Zoloft, 150? I would like to know if I should take them separately and if so, how many hours apart?

Avatar f tn Medication was decreased to 112 mg. Aug.blood work TSH 0.11. Now has decreases to 100 mg. synthroid with a wait and see approach. Has also given script for Amitriptyline again at my request. My concern is whether my symptoms are anxiety or thyroid related. Symptoms:nervousness, nausea, headaches, shoulder/upper back tension/pain goes down right bicep to elbow, calf pain, waking up several times in the night especially from pain in shoulders and arm.
Avatar f tn I am hypo, and hashi. been on synthroid a couple years things were great then spiraled down, ive had bad right side only (arm, neck head and eye pain) my doc increased my med to 100 when i got diagnosed with the hashimotos in march of 08 but ive been feeling really bad for a year. i took the dose of leptopril to try to lose some weight and all my neck and head pain vanished i didnt take any today and i can feel my symptoms coming back on im going to try and see what happens tomorow.
Avatar f tn The radiation oncologist gave me an option today of trying radiation again, however, if nothing is seen on any scans I really do not see a point in doing so, especially since it will not be I-131. And even if it were, I think I would still choose to just keep an eye on the Tg levels. The oncologist said I may have a very small remnant of thyroid cancer. The endocrinologist says the last ultrasound I had done showed possible thyroid cancer, but not according to the scans.
Avatar f tn I hope this will help as the eye pain is just one of the MANY problems I am experiencing. I did read on several sites that eye pain and swelling is very common in Hashi's and should hopefully resolve on the right dose of mediction. What dose are you on and what are your current levels?
