Synthroid and cytomel weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and cytomel weight loss

cytomel

Avatar n tn I wouldn't advise adding cytomel without knowing what your actual thyroid levels are -- that's Free T4, Free T3 and TSH. T3 med (cytomel) is about 4 times more potent than the T4 med (synthroid) and it can really throw you for a loop if you don't need it. It can cause very rapid heart rate, palps, etc. Whenever cytomel is added, the T4 med should be dropped accordingly. Did you receive the cytomel from your doctor or as a script? What did your doctor say about adding it?
Avatar n tn Post your FT3 and FT4 levels. If you can't lose the weight, maybe you'd benefit from your levels in the upper 1/3 of the range, not just 'in range' as so many clueless endos are apt to leave you. The reason many of us don't lose weight is because many endos still don't test/treat FT3 levels.
Avatar f tn I am using 1/2 synthroid and the cytomel and my skin and hair seem better again. Thankyou for your answer.
Avatar f tn About 5 weeks ago my doctor added 5mcg of Cytomel twice a day. My anxiety, lethargy, ADD, depression, and hair loss have really calmed down but I still have a low body temperature - normally in the 96-97 range and my weight hasn't budged at all. I also am so bloated all the time - I am so uncomfortable in my body. Do I need to be on a higher dose of cytomel or should I may be looking into getting tested for insulin resistance?
Avatar n tn I am on 125mcg of synthroid and want to add cytomel because of still suffering from fatigue and weight gain. My physician prescribed 25mcg of cytomel and said to discontinue the synthroid. I cannot get into an endo until Feb. and would like to combine the two but am not sure what doses to take reducing my synthroid and adding the cytomel?
Avatar n tn I also started to become very depressed. I was switched to 112 Synthroid and 5 Cytomel. The weight stabilized at 142lb - great! However, the depression is still here, I still get tired, and my toes and fingers get uncontrollably cold lately. I also started getting slightly sick in the morning about an hour after taking the Synthroid. My last blood test showed TSH of 0.1mIU/L.
Avatar m tn Do you have the range for your FT4? Ranges are lab specific so have to come from your own lab report. Did your doctor test FT3 as well? What were you taking prior to the 50 mcg Cytomel and 50 mcg Synthroid? When he d/c'd the Cytomel, did he change your Synthroid as well? Sorry to ask so many questions, but need to know.
822804 tn?1298226302 I am 27 years old and am hypothryoid currently taking Synthroid 150mcg and Cytomel 25mcg but am only taking 1/2 tablet daily.I am experiencing hair loss now...larger than normal clumps are in my hairbrush after brushing my hair and I am also losing hair throughout the day, strands here and there.Would this mean that my meds need to be increased or decreased?what should I do?I do not have a thyroid anymore - i had a total thyroidectomy a little over a year ago.
1401696 tn?1280838616 hve you had any trouble loosing weight with synthroid.? my only complain on it was no weight loss and my legs and arms had like slight water ret. The fatigue episode were once a month around the time of my cycle.
Avatar f tn ve been complaining to my doctors for years (literally since 2003) about symptoms of fatigue, hair loss, inability to lose weight, and weight gain. Started testing for thyroid problems in 2003, but they only did the TSH test which always came back normal. Never did the free T4 test until 2005. I'm a concerned about pituitary problems as this is what i have read from various cites (mayo clinic and a couple of other good sites).
Avatar f tn I am recently diagnoised with hypo-been taking 100 synthroid for almost a month. I work out 5 days a week I was wondering if anyone has taken cytomel along with synthroid? If so has it helped in weight loss? I work out so very hard and go to the gym twice a day, The doctor says until my metabolism and thyroid get on track my weight won't change. I have been doing some research on cytomel and am thinking of asking my Dr. if I can try it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
822804 tn?1298226302 I was dx'd with hypO in Jun 08 and with Hashi's in Oct 08. I was on synthroid until Jan 09, at which time I was changed to levothyroxine + cytomel. I have not been able to lose anything on either regimen. I continue to watch my diet and exercise in hopes that one day I will be able to get rid of at least a small amount. Don't give up. I'm told that when the thyroid levels are right, the weight will come off.
Avatar f tn I had my bi-annual thyroid checkup and my doctor said I was on too much meds due to my weight loss and reduced me to a half Cytomel and 100 mcg Synthoid. Got tested again after 6 weeks and was told I was slightly high but could stay at that level. However I was feeling awful on that (really tired) so I talked to my doctor and agreed to going back to 25mcg Cytomel/75 mcg Synthroid.
Avatar n tn taking100mg of sythroid and my doctor agreed to let me try cytomel 25 with my sythroid.
Avatar f tn Usually we do not change from Synthroid to Cytomel alone. Typically if we are using Cytomel, it is in conjunction with Synthroid, for example if you're on 137 of Synthroid a dose change could have been Synthroid 100 along with Cytomel 5 twice daily.
Avatar n tn Dx Central Hypothroidism and Hashimoto Taking synthroid 125 Endo added cytomel 10mcg due to low ft3 and persistent hypo symptoms.Feeling terrible and even worse with added titre (cytomel) 10mcg. Rang Endo and told me to stop with cytomel. Is that possible that such a low dose could make me feel awful...double vison, sense of nausea, some palpitations...to add to my already hypo symptoms...plus ft3 and ft4 have not risen even a tiny bit. I'm really confused at this point.
Avatar f tn 00 pm Cytomel to early afternoon (say 1:00 pm). I'd also ask for testing to be done in about 5 weeks to see what TSH, FT3 and FT4 are; you wouldn't need to do rT3 again. Depending on levels and symptoms, you could then make adjustments as needed. Of course, your doctor has to agree with whatever you ask for...
1882966 tn?1320745459 He told me to take Cytomel and it would help me with loosing weight but i am not loosing weight. i only loose weight if i don't eat. So i dont know what to do. My doctor thinks my results are normal, but how are they normal if they are not normal. Based on my results, i think i should be 100lbs by now because i am not in hyper states..correct? I am confused...
Avatar f tn After 4 years on Armor thyroid, my MD switched me to synthroid 25 mcg and cytomel 5 mcg 1 bid (tid prn). I am a 50 y.o females who is s/p total hysterectomy for ovarian ca. I take Estratest FS 4 X's week. I am feeling MUCH better with the Synthroid and Cytomel, however, my latest labs have come back as follows: TSH- .062 Free Thyroxin-- 1.
Avatar n tn I was experiencing joint pain, substantial hair loss, sensitive to cold and have not been able to loose much weight. I joined weight watchers over nine months ago and my coach told me something was not right. This week I was able to see a endocrinologist and he repeated my labs. Now my TSH is 1.9, he decided to change my synthroid to 100 much and added Cytomel 5mcg twice a day. I’m not familiar with Cytomel, will the addition of this medicine compensate reducing my synthroid?
Avatar n tn I take Synthroid .1 and 5mcg Cytomel every day for hypothyroidism. I have been taking them together in the morning an hour before any other medications, foods and 6 hours before any iron, calcium, or zinc. Should the Synthroid be taken by itself completely? I can take the Cytomel with breakfast and other meds later in the day, but wondered if taking the Cytomel at the exact same time as the Synthroid was somehow lowering the effectiveness/absorbtion of the Synthroid.
