Synthroid and bloating

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and bloating

synthroid

327369 tn?1326119908 This has happened several times to me (when being place on thyroid meds). Bloating does not exist prior to meds and went away when I went off meds????? Dr. said it was from being slightly hypo but I do not believe that and know that is was not like that weeks and weeks before when levels were actually higher! Any ideas???
Avatar n tn Hi, I started taking synthroid and 2 weeks later, I had severe bloating to the point I was out of breath and in the ER, since I stopped the synthroid, it has improved.
Avatar f tn Then after those 2 weeks, I began to feel so tired and could not even climb the stairs in my house. I had the doctor order lab work and was shocked to see how low my labs are.I was on Synthroid 175 prior to switching to NT. I did read that Synthroid lingers in the blood for 2 weeks until total dissipation...I'm wondering if this is what caused the sudden decrease in labs and my extreme tiredness.
Avatar f tn Had been feeling terrible when I was switched by my mail order to Synthroid instead of Levothyroxine. Dr. also said I was hypo. Recent test results TSH - 7.93 - Thyroxine Free 0.80. Can some people tolerate Levo better than Synthroid. Don't know if my symptoms of nausea, bloating, depression, hot spells are due to Synthroid or hypo. Thank you so much.
Avatar f tn Going hypo - bloating and moon face are common - Hopefully when your numbers return to your comfort level the swelling with go away.
Avatar f tn Did you ever learn anything else about this? I've been dealing with horrible bloating for the last few months and don't know if it's part of the thyroid issue (just started meds two weeks ago) or if it's a separate issue. Mine isn't so much starting the day as smaller and ending up bloated. I just have some bloated days and some of the bloated days are combined with flatulence that is very frequent. It's very uncomfortable.
Avatar n tn I am currently taking Synthroid .25 daily and notice that my hair and skin are HORRIBLE. I feel so/so on the medicaiton but I look horrible. Also, I have a blurry spot in my left eye that started 5 months after partial thyroidectomy for cancer. What's the deal with Synthroid? Should I change dosage or Rx? I was on Levoxyl, felt OK, looked better but felt OK. I can's seem to find the right med/dosage. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Avatar f tn An interesting question. Go to the FDA site and research Synthroid. "Synthroid" is not necessarily "synthroid". By that I mean, for various reasons the brand name is the same, however the composition has changed several times. Also look up Levoxyl.
Avatar n tn I had a few issues sleeping, being on Cytomel, and felt I should try and convert my own T4 to T3. So I started Synthroid exclusively. I took it and initially felt a little better, at least the sleeping and such. But after about 3 weeks, I started with severe bloating and arthritis in my hands and hip joints. I'd never before had hip joint pain...EVER before Synthroid.
327369 tn?1326119908 ) agreed to give me 25 mcg of Synthroid to see how it works. Well I have been taking it since last Friday..........and already I feel better. However, get this........have gained 4 pounds and am sooooo bloated that I feel gross and my pants are tight. I have read that this is an issue with this medication. I hate this since I do feel better. I am going to stop taking this medication............I have NEVER gained this much weight in a short period of time or felt this bloated.
535882 tn?1396576685 however, when I got back into the hypo t state again recently, I had a real bout with gastritis, including bloating and stomach pains, so it is not too great a stretch to think it could also include your problem. Incidentally, my doc switched me to a T4/T3 type med.( Armour thyroid), in order to bring my free T3 level up, and in one day my gastritis symptoms were gone. More than just a coincidence.
Avatar n tn depression, lots of anxiety, indigestion/bloating, fatigue, strange sensations in my hands and feet, so I went to the family dr. and asked her to check my levels. Sure enough, my tsh was high again, this time 7.4. She increased me to 50 mcg of synthroid, but I still was not feeling relief...if anything, my moodiness and anxiety is worse now! I finally got in with an endo yesterday.
Avatar f tn Thinking it is the gap between the T3 and the T4. I feel better every day after splitting the synthroid and NT to a.m. and p.m. But still some stomach problems - probably just the NT non-active ingredients? My stomach tolerated synthroid fine when I was on it for three years by itself. You are wonderful to take the time to reply to those "searching" for answers...
937837 tn?1285350385 she never upped the drugs. the symptoms of bloating and abdominal pain/discomfort started after taking the Synthroid after 4 weeks. It can't be just a random occurrence that it happened at the same time I had no real symptoms of hypo. other than being tired and having menstrual cycles that were all over the place after I had come off birth control, and a TSH of 103. The periods were the only reason she tested my thyroid.
Avatar n tn I am faithful about taking my Synthroid as soon as I awake. I get ready for work and then I pop my YAZ BC pill before I leave the house. All within an hour. My thyroid just went out of whack again and the Dr. just up me to 125 mcg. (originally started at .88 and then 100) I was thinking that BC probably has Iron in it and I shouldnt be taking it in the Am and maybe in the PM? Is there any truth to this? Thanks!
280485 tn?1249013844 But the bloating and joint issues I had experienced on Synthroid only partially disappeared with the Levoxyl. Was my body missing the T3? It was over two months before I went back to the doc to tell him that he was right and I wanted to add the cytomel back in and hopefully ditch the joint/bloating issues. I had decided that I'd trade pain for sleep anyday... I'm now 3 weeks on the Levoxyl/Cytomel combo, but it's totally a different ratio than last time.
Avatar f tn Very interesting! I too, have a lot of bloating and gas and it's really quite painful at times. I didn't make the connection between my thyroid meds (Levoxyl) and that. I'll have to ask when I go to the doctor next week. Stella ~ someone told me to try the acidolphillus (love that name - sounds like a character on Sesame Street!) as well. I have been having even more problems after my colonoscopy, and they suggested I may need some good bacteria back. I may give it a shot!
Avatar f tn My levels never changed for the first six months I was taking Levo, after taking Synthroid for six weeks, I had a major change in my blood work (Free T3 and Free T4) FTB4
Avatar f tn She is hypo, however she looks great, she told me she used to have a hard time loosing weight even exercise daily. Her doctor precribed Cytomel at low dose with Synthroid and she said she started loosing weight easier. I heard a lot of hypo patients complain of weight gain or unable to loose weight, but don't hear much of patient taking Cytomel. Is there a reason why doctors don't prescribe Cytomel much? I know Cytomel is supplement for T3 and stronger.
327369 tn?1326119908 were there differences you noted? Thinking about trying it and did not do weel with Synthroid last time (anxiety, excessive bloating, etc.) Thoughts?
Avatar m tn i am having problems with high blood pressure. heart palpatations . bloating, and weight gain. was switched from generic to synthroid in nov of this year.
Avatar f tn Much more accurate than TSH. Synthroid and Levo are both only a T-4 drug. Many people feel much when taking both T-4 and T-3 and are low on T-3 as well. There are many T-4/T-3 drugs on the market. Armour, I believe is on backorder but not discontinued. But there are others such as Westhroid and Naturethroid available which I know you can get.I hope that help a little. Take care.
Avatar f tn m on 150 mcg and my TSH is still at 13.8 and my T4 is at 1.8 and my T3 is at 2.1. They kept me on 150 mcg of the Synthroid and added Cytomel 5mcg (2x daily). I still feel extremely tired, dry skin and I have had a lot of hip pain/ restless legs but my endo keeps telling me it doesn't pertain to my thyroid. They haven't done any more tests on my multinodular goiter either since last October.
Avatar f tn I got to tell you honestly - I suffered alot - Kitty here and I had a duscussion about magnesium and I started it for bloating. Not only has it relieved my bloating issues but the joint /muscle pain and anxiety is almost gone. I was not sure if the magnesuim was the reason - I did some quick research and it is the known to resolve these issues. It was almost immediate - with in 3 to 4 days but I no longer need any meds for anxiety right now and I feel I can move again.
Avatar n tn It is due to both - your condition of hypo and the Levo. Whether you are on Synthroid or Levo you could still have this issue. This is what may help relieve the bloating. Take magnesium citrate (one tablet 200mcg AM/one in PM ) within a few days you will notice the change. Pulling in additional Vit C will help relief the gas build up too. I would say to start 500 mcg every day. Make sure you do not take the magnesuim with your Levo - Take Levo first - wait 2hrs - take magnesuim.
Avatar f tn When using both synthroid and cytomel, it's common to adjust them both at the same time or lower synthroid when adding cytomel. Cytomel is a T3 only med and is about 4 times more potent than the T4 med (synthroid) and too high doses of either could very easily cause a swing to hypER. Cytomel is a fast acting med, but doesn't last in the body very long - so in effect, the doctor WAS raising her total dosage. Many people find that splitting the dose throughout the day helps.
