393685 tn?1425812522 I am confused...been away from the boards for months until very recently. I thought Amour Thyroid contained desicated thyroid tissue from pigs, not synthetic: "...each tablet contains 19 mcg levothyroxine (T4) and 4.5 mcg liothyronine (T3) ..." so what does this mean?
Avatar m tn There is scientific evidence that the TSH is suppressed for almost a full day after a significant dose of thyroid med, so that does not usually indicate an overdose. You can tell by Free T4 and Free T3 levels. Hypo patients are also frequently deficient in Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin, so you should make sure to always get those tested and supplement as needed to optimize. D should be at least 50 ng/mL, B12 in the upper part of its range, and ferritin should be at least 100.
Avatar n tn Boy Oh Boy...I just want to say that I was thinking of you. I can't be much help on your questions.. I imagine anything that stresses your body out could cause a relapse, including an overdose of your thyroid hormone, but this would be a simple guess on my part. It's a wonder your heart was not strained. By the sounds of it, the medication took you from Hypo to Hyper, instead of the level you should have been. Thank God your ok.
Avatar f tn After two weeks of taking the pills, I unfortunately experienced mild attacks of tight chest pains, tremors, tingling arms, shortness of breath, anxiety and heart palpitations. I later found out from my endo that these were symptoms of an overdose (i.e. the same symptoms you can get from hyperthyroidism, overactive thyroid). A possibility of this may have been that I'm only tiny (4"11 and just under 8 stone).
Avatar n tn 0128 and went to a thyroid doctor. I will have an ultrasound tommorrow and a nuclear thyroid scan on Thursday. My other symptoms are thyroid nodules, a cough that won't go away, hoarsness at times, the feeling of being strangled, earaches, sore throat. I feel hyper in the morning and qite exhausted at night. Also I have neck pain and swollen tissue surrounding the area.
Avatar n tn Having recently being diagnosed with underactive thyroid I have spent ages reading loads of information about treatments etc. There seem to be a lot of people implying that synthetic thyroxine is no good, but surely if as many as 1 in 50 women suffer from hypothyroidism, loads of people must be OK on it. I find it very worrying to read that the treatment I have put on may not work at all.
Avatar f tn Other people are able to take only a dose or split dose more likely of a natural dessicated thyroid NDT med such as Arour, WP Thyroid EFRA etc. Others may need to add more synthetic T4, or more synthetic T3 in addition to the NDT. Like I said. Whatever works. I would recommend that people who are gluten intolerant probably should avoid Armour, as I have heard that it contains gluten in the filler/buffer.
727481 tn?1231203771 My daughter is 9 1/2 and weighs 120 lbs.and born without a thyroid gland! So, just to compair as you have no thyroid function either- She is on 3 grains (195 mg) of Nature-Throid (desiccated) taken 1 grain every 4 hours 3x per day. Her TSH is well under 1, her t3 is high in the normal range with her t4 just above mid range. She is not hypo. or hyper in any way! Feeling fantastic and doing great!!! 1 year ago at 105 lbs. she was on 100 mcg. of synthetic t4 only Synthroid.
Avatar f tn Hi! These are my mother's test results who is taking synthetic thyroid hormone meds for her hypothyroid. She has been taking 25 mg of levothyroxine sodium tablets for a month when the blood work was done. Here are her results: TSH: 1.83 ulU/mL (0,34 - 5,6) Free T4: 0.58 ng/dL (0.58 - 1.64) Free T3: 3.38 pg/mL (2.2 - 4.0) Should she increase her dose to 50 mg or keep her dosage as it is. TSH is at optimum level but Free T4 is on the border.
291885 tn?1404893207 This is a question for those of you who were hyperthyroid and developed heart problems from it. I have been hypothyroid since 2001 after a case of mono. It took 3 years for a proper dx but in 2004 I began thyroid meds. I did well until mid 2007 when life's stresses became too much and I relapsed with another case of mono.
Avatar n tn What are your current thyroid hormone levels? Be sure to post reference ranges with results, since ranges vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report. You should be getting tested periodically for TSH, Free T3 and Free T4. Do you have other symptoms of over medication, such as weight loss, diarrhea, tremors, etc. Do you have Hashimoto's?
Avatar f tn If you have had RAI that many times and you are on no medication and your bloods are good , then the RAI you did have has basically got your thyroid into controlling the right amount of thyroid medication and your thyroid still has function. The RAI has basically put a 'brake' on your hyperthyroidism. This doesnt mean to say that the thyroid wont fire up again (which I hope it doesnt) but the same happened to my sister who has Graves.
988694 tn?1332359479 Well, I tried the compounded T3/T4 once (25 mcg) and felt the same allergic/overdose (don’t know how to call it) reactions than with the synthetic and natural. I couldn’t believe it. This other Dr. /author, Ken Blanchard, also treat people with intolerance to meds with compounded and he adds it works wonders. That it why I was so thrilled when I was about to try the compounded, but it did not happen for me.
Avatar f tn Absolutely, you can take Armour! I would not run so fast to get my thyroids yanked out the trouble's that come afterwards is why I am part of different boads. I wish I would have taken Armour and worked with my symptoms before shocking my body into taking them out. You have your parathyroids close by so it very dangerous but honestly these days TT is like no big thing kind of like hysterectomy's were to the 70's.
1139187 tn?1355706647 People here are the 'thyroid challenged' people, were not normal thyroid patients. Most here leaned about it and became thyroid obsessed since standard thyroid treatment did not work for them. I know if standard Synthroid combined with labs just somewhere in the TSH range worked for me, I'd have better things to do than hang out here......... LOL just sayin' ! So if synthetic worked for me, I'd be "#@?, this synthetic $!?
Avatar n tn So it has nothing to do with my Thyroid? (it does work perfectly as mentioned) Could it be a throat infection / virus?
Avatar f tn I take armour thyroid and I do fine with it. My doctor told me that he thinks it works better than the other synthetic types.
Avatar n tn It certainly sounds like hyper symptoms to me, but you should be monitored closely and tested with any dosage change. Call your doc and describe your symptoms and ask why you haven't been tested to check the effectiveness of your new dosage change. You should have been tested at 6 weeks!
