Avatar n tn My son (3.5) was tested for thyroid disorder and had a TSH score of 12 with T4 score in the normal range. At the time, the only symptom of any thyroid issues was that he was falling off of the growth chart his doctor has. My son is asian and adopted, so it is difficult for me to know if this was a real problem or not.
Avatar f tn Request a thyroid ultrasound. That will tell whether or not there is a nodule on your thyroid that may be compressing your esophagus.
306245 tn?1244384967 The sinus node is the natural pacemaker of the heart, and is located in the right upper corner of the heart. It can be damaged when the heart is opened, if a suture is placed near it, if it is congenitally abnormal, or when a heart-lung bypass machine canula is put in the superior vena cava, which is the vein that drains the head, neck, and arms back to the right side of the heart.
Avatar f tn When your doctor says he'll "burn" your thyroid, what he means is that he'd recommend RAI (radioactive iodine). You are given a dose of radioactive iodine, and over the course of several months, your thyroid gland is destroyed by the radiation. Once it is destroyed, you will be hypOthyroid and will have to be on replacement hormones for the rest of your life. RAI is seldom, if ever, done on pregnant women.
Avatar n tn Tremors, feeling overheated, frequent bathroom visits, a racing heart, dizziness, thin body build - these are all classic symptoms of HYPERthyroidism. But yes, they can all be symptoms of AD too. Still, I would suggest getting regular thyroid tests for awhile, maybe every few months for 2 years. It can take awhile to show up in a blood test. Maybe a thyroid specialist, with urine testing etc. could rule out hyper-thyroidism for certain.
Avatar f tn Occasionally, we see patients here with TSH over 100. Did the doc test your FT4/FT3 levels? Those give us a direct indication of how much thyroid hormone is in your body? Did the doctor give you any thyroid hormone pills? If so, how much? Please get your pituitary tested. The pituitary gland sends out the message to the thyroid, the TSH, thyroid stimulating hormone. In turn, the thyroid puts out more hormone as the TSH rises. If the pituitary has a tumor, it can send out very high signals.
Avatar m tn I am so tired of feeling like this. These symptoms make my depression worse. I feel like my thyroid may be out of wack and I just want to change that. I do not think my doctor did a full thyroid panel, but would the T3 test normally show abnormalities with symptoms like these? I am not gaining any weight, but I am not loosing any either. I actually put on a little bit of weight these past couple of weeks, but thats becuase of my depression and my eating habits during that time.
649848 tn?1534633700 Good morning. How's it going this morning? The sun is bright and it looks like it's going to be another hot day in the south. My week was pretty quiet... Florida is still having thousands of new COVID-19 cases/deaths every day (my county is in the hundreds of new cases/day), so we're still only going out for groceries and/or medical care, etc. The big issue here is options for school starting. It looks like this is something parents all over the country have to decide on.
Avatar f tn The CT will help determine the extent of the thyroid enlargement as well as the impact on neighboring structures (trachea, esophagus, etc). Goiter is not usually cancer but this should be evaluated with ultrasound and FNA biopsy of any worrisome nodule. Would also test thyroid function - TSH, T4 and possibly TPO antibodies if you have goiter.
Avatar n tn Have you ever heard of anyone getting a trigger finger from thyroid? one of my fingers catches and once the ortho found out I had two autoimmune diseases (I'm a celiac) he immediately just sent me to OT. The OT is doing nothing for it but helping with my weakness. I've just found this all very frustrating. I will never take health for granted again.
Avatar f tn TRH is not available in the US and not necessary in the vast majority of cases. If labs are normal, would not treat with anti-thyroid drugs for "hyperthyroidism" symptoms. Treating a borderline high TSH in the presence of "hypothyroid" symptoms has a much more appealing risk/benefit ratio.
465737 tn?1315754922 Once diagnosed find a good Endocrinologist/obgyn that has experience in thyroid related problems and will listen and take this condition seriously. I found out the hard way that not every Endocrinologist/Obgyn has the experience or knowledge about thyroid disease and pregnancy - it might not be there area of speciality.
1748636 tn?1312396409 I have no energy, and I drag through the day in such a fog. I know I am overweight (obese) and I struggle keeping up with the kids. I do not work, so eating 5-6 times a day should not be a problem, but I never can seem to do it. I have gone through almost every diet there is. I may loose some but then I gain it right back. I am so utterly frustrated and I do not know where to even begin. I am unable to see my doctor right now, so I am on my own. Does anyone have any ideas where to start?
Avatar n tn Well, if you have a problem with your thyroid, it may not show on this test, but it could show on a different test. Other tests should be taken before ruling out your thyroid as the source of your symptoms. I would first find a new doctor. One that doubts you or concludes that your symptoms are all in your head, will not be the doctor you want to continue seeing. Go to another doctor.
Avatar f tn TSH is a pituitary hormone and, as such, is a very indirect measure of thyroid status. It can be affected by any number of factors other than thyroid hormone levels. So, it is a screening test, at best, which should only be used on asymptomatic patients. If it comes back out of range, FT3 and FT4 should be tested to confirm TSH results. With only TSH to go on, it's difficult to see what the basis of your doctor's diagnosis of hypo was when you were originally tested.
Avatar f tn Wonder if nighblindness is a part of thyroid problems........ I'm so sorry you got these disorders to deal with, you must be very frustrated! I think I can rule Dysautonomia out, I only get dizzy when hungry or too hot. I just read about spinal cord compression, that could be a possibility, at least it would explain some of my symptoms, I have a bulging disc in my neck. At this point I'm considering everything.
Avatar m tn TSH is a pituitary hormone that is supposed to accurately reflect levels of the actual thyroid hormones. In reality TSH cannot be shown to correlate well with either Free T4 or Free T3, much less correlate well with symptoms, which should be the main concern. When already taking thyroid meds, TSH is almost a useless test. Your wife will not achieve adequate levels of actual thyroid hormones, if her meds are adjusted based on TSH only.
Avatar n tn I have had severe itching in the past. Thought I had some kind of creeping crud or bug but neither. I am now dxd with secondary hyperparathryoidism. I believe it's really PRIMARY hyperparathyroidism. I cannot tolerate calcium supplements or D. Heart races and body aches. My serum calcium is 9.1 but an IONIZED calcium test has never been done. I had severely low d before supplimentation. My PTH is 58. I'm terribly dehydrated and just eliminate all liquids.
Avatar f tn I immediatey called my doctor to request bloodwork thinking my thyroid went out of whack again, these were my usual tell-tale symptoms. After a series of tests, my TSH is normal (1.48) and my Free T4 and T3 results were normal. My TPO antibodies are 248, which is abnormal. I was told that I would have to monitor my thyroid again in a few months as it could develop into Hashimoto's. I went to an endocrinologist who told me the same thing.
Avatar f tn Beyond that, 25 mcg of T4 is such a small amount that it would make no significant difference in your serum thyroid levels, or symptoms. I say that because serum thyroid levels are the sum of both natural thyroid hormone and thyroid med. When you start on thyroid med, your TSH will go down in response and thus your output ot natural thyroid hormone also drops.
Avatar n tn is Nizonide o safe for kids aged 8 and 13? My kids were complaining of bad stomach pain (younger one aged 8 was also having frequent potty - not very frequent) but also stomach cramps. And both have mild flu like symptoms They were prescribed Nizonide O and Rablet by physician? Is it safe? My elder one (aged 3+) is still not okay and is having too much pain in throat too now and running nose.

2033435 tn?1329943508 Fatigue, lack of motivation, lack of interest are all symptoms of hypo...perhaps the most common of all the symptoms. I doubt there's anyone here on this forum who wasn't fatigued or drowsy when hypo. Other symptoms vary person to person, but this one seems universal just about.
