Avatar f tn Well there are three separate issues with the thyroid. Hormones, Goiter and Lumps. Auto-immune thyroid disease can results in low (or high) thyroid hormones and cause the thyroid to enlarge. Auto-immune disease (Hashimoto's or Graves) is diagnosed via blood tests, TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone), T4/T3 (Actual thyroid hormones), and thyroid antibodies. If you haven't had these done, you should have them done. Your ENT didn't find any lumps but thinks your thyroid is large.
Avatar m tn ), I realized that I had many of these issues for years, but certainly not all of or even most of the symptoms. I was able to lose weight rapidly (40 lbs in 2.5 months) with a VERY strict diet and exercise plan, but gained most of the weight back within a few months after ending the strict diet and reducing my exercise from 7 days a week to 3. I filled the prescription this morning and took the first pill, but still wonder if a life commitment of medication is worth it.
Avatar m tn Can anyone tell me what causes me to out of the blue once in a while, I get a hot feeling all over, and it is scary, like I think it is is a stroke, but a few minutes later, I am ok again, but scared that it was a bad sign that something is wrong. I asked my doc over the phone after describing the symptoms what it was, only to be told She did not know. Is there anyone here that have had this happen to them? How do I treat it if possible?
Avatar m tn 1 T3 Uptake 35 Testosterone Total 300 LC/MS/MS I also have a ptosis in both of my eyes and even though the Armour Thyroid is helping it , the ptosis seems to migrate from one eye to the other, before my left eye was very droppy and stopped retracting, now since I've been on the medications the ptosis is slightly clearing within the left and moving over to the right.
Avatar f tn TSH is Thyroid Stimulating Hormone. This number changes in inverse to the amount of Thyroid hormone in your system, so a low TSH level would mean that you have increased levels of Thyroid Hormone. TSH has a pretty broad range, so it is best if you have a history of blood levels so that you can see what has been normal for you in the past. A lower TSH could be normal for you. I am not a Dr.
Avatar m tn //www.hotzehwc.com/testosteronetestman/. The symptoms you described can be related to the low-t, especially the depression, lack of energy, and sleeping issues. However, there are other situations you described that could be involved with the same symptoms. Also there are symptoms that you may not have. Low - T is a catch phrase, mostly for marketing Testosterone Replacement Drug Therapy to the 25% of men that have below "normal" levels.
Avatar m tn I still suffer from insomnia, tinnitus, neuropathy in one foot and occasionally ED. I believe these symptoms are a result of hypothyroidism. ED is directly related to my Synthroid dosage. I dropped from 100 mcg to 75 and had no libido or function... Upon returning to 100 mcg libido is good and function are ok. I use Ambien to help with insomnia which I believe is harmful. What do members recommend for sleep help? My endocrinologist goes by TSH only. How do I locate a good thyroid doctor???
Avatar n tn 7 (never checked before) with a PTH of 50 (these tests were done a week apart though) and I have many of the symptoms of parathyroid disease including osteoporosis (I am age 33), gerd/acid reflux, frequent urination, trouble sleeping, previous kidney stones, depression etc. I have low vitamin D and my calcium is going up and down depending on whether I take vitamin D or not.
Avatar m tn In any case, I would advise you to consult an endocrinologist, because low libido and increased fatigue can be associated not only with low testosterone production, but also with disorders in the thyroid gland. Take tests for thyroid hormones and perform an ultrasound exam.
Avatar n tn MANY of the same symptoms overlap between low thyroid and low testosterone. Namely, weight gain, fatigue, anxiety, depression, brain fog and lack of libido.
663299 tn?1471101146 I had low thyroid symptoms and my family doctor said my thyroid was normal, despite the fact my hair was falling out, I felt exhausted, colder then everyone else, depressed, and irritable. I suffered for many years, then after much research I went and saw a bio-identical doctor. The bio-identical doctor said my thyroid was low and put me on desiccated thyroid and I am feeling much better. They have an optimal range for the thyroid levels.
Avatar n tn s and his FT3 and FT4 are both low, and his TSH is 14.12. Obviously the amount of thyroid he is on is not taking care of the disease. I have read that peole can have antibodies for years, but still have normal TSH levels and no hypothyroidism. Obviously my husband needs to increase his meds---I would hate to have him starte swinging from hypo to hyper or worse, end up with thyroid storms, which I am told can be deadly.
Avatar n tn t too much of a concern because your FT3 is nicely up in the top third of the range. FT3 is the thyroid test that best correlates with symptoms. Your symptoms sound like hypothyroid symptoms, but wih your FT3 that high up in the range, that's almost an impossibility. I'd pursue other possibilities as suggested above.
Avatar m tn The free T3 is not as helpful in untreated persons as the free T4 because in the light of a rather low FT4 the body will convert more T4 to T3 to maintain thyroid effect as well as is possible. So the person with a rather low FT4 and high-in-range FT3 may still be hypothyroid. However, if the FT4 is below 1.3 and the FT3 is also rather low, say below 3.4 (range 2 to 4.4 at LabCorp) then its likely that hypothyroidism is the cause of a person's symptoms.
Avatar f tn Goolarra and Stella are entirely correct. A lot of doctors don't understand that TSH is frequently suppressed when on enough thyroid medication to alleviate symptoms. TSH is a pituitary hormone that is affected by many variables and it does not correlate well at all with hypo symptoms. It is inadequate as a diagnostic by which to medicate a thyroid patient. Meds should be based on symptoms and the levels of the actual, biologically active thyroid hormones, which are FT3 and FT4.
Avatar f tn He needs to take enough supplemental D3 to get the level substantially above the low limit of the range. Also, if he looks through this listing of typical hypo symptoms, does he have any of the 26 typical hypo symptoms? http://endocrine-system.emedtv.com/hypothyroidism/hypothyroidism-symptoms-and-signs.html Since he also has Hashi's, I'd like to see his thyroid test results and their reference ranges shown on the lab report.
Avatar n tn I have had severe itching in the past. Thought I had some kind of creeping crud or bug but neither. I am now dxd with secondary hyperparathryoidism. I believe it's really PRIMARY hyperparathyroidism. I cannot tolerate calcium supplements or D. Heart races and body aches. My serum calcium is 9.1 but an IONIZED calcium test has never been done. I had severely low d before supplimentation. My PTH is 58. I'm terribly dehydrated and just eliminate all liquids.
Avatar n tn 61 year old female, 5ft, 107lb, with numerous low thyroid symptoms since 2000, including low body temperature, cold extremities, dry skin & hair, brittle nails, Constipation, rising cholesterol levels, etc. Current blood test 12/2008 was seen as normal with TSH = 3.187, Total T3 =128, Total T4 =8.3. Last symptom free year was 1999 when TSH=1.832. 2000 - 2008 has seen TSH rise from 1.9, 2.17, 2.6, 2.647, to 3.187, with increase in symptoms.
Avatar m tn I am so tired of feeling like this. These symptoms make my depression worse. I feel like my thyroid may be out of wack and I just want to change that. I do not think my doctor did a full thyroid panel, but would the T3 test normally show abnormalities with symptoms like these? I am not gaining any weight, but I am not loosing any either. I actually put on a little bit of weight these past couple of weeks, but thats becuase of my depression and my eating habits during that time.
484508 tn?1290010544 Depression, lack of energy, loss of sexual interest, may be symptoms of low testosterone. Your physician has wisely chosen to repeat the test to confirm the value. Usually morning testosterones are highest though the variation in the course of the day tends to diminish as men get older. Generally, though, I would suggest a morning value along with a prolactin (another hormone that rarely is related to low testosterone) as well as a check on your thyroid function.
1806721 tn?1554333407 transfats, mercury, fungal infections. Besides this, thyroid hormone is necessary for the healthy metabolism of cholesterol so low thyroid hormone will cause cholesterol levels to rise. With your other symptoms, the most likely cause of your high cholesterol is hypothyroidism. The most common cause of hypothyroidism is Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (autoimmune hypothyroidism) which is confirmed by testing thyroid antibodies. You can develop costochodritis with hypothyroidism.
Avatar m tn It remains at rock bottom or not even measurable BELOW range. I have done some research of the top 10 symptoms of low T in women and she has about 7 or 8 of the ten symptoms. THat being said, many of these symptoms are also parallel low Thyroid which we know she has and is being treated for. However have any other women out there been diagnosed ith Low T? If so have you been treated? what worked? How did you find a Dr to treat you? And how do you feel now?
