Symbicort vs albuterol

Common Questions and Answers about Symbicort vs albuterol

symbicort

1987536 tn?1337916244 He actually switched me from advair to symbicort, and from albuterol to xopenex. 24 weeks now and my little girl is doing just fine. They do need us to give them oxygen, so take your meds if you need to.
Avatar n tn I'm a 44-year old female, with asthmatic allergic response to cats since childhood. I smoked off and on from 18-39, about 5 pack-years. I've lived near a cat (outdoors with access to my husband's study) for 18 years, and have treated my asthma with albuterol, adding ventolin when necessary. About 12 weeks ago I caught bronchitis, then wildfires broke out near my home that made the air unhealthy for about 2 weeks. This provoked a severe asthma attack -- for three weeks.
Avatar f tn When I have an asthma attack I take 2 sprays of Symbicort now - it does contain Albuterol as one of the ingredients but it has never gotten my heart racing. Good luck!
718416 tn?1259680550 I have recently been prescribed symbicort, but for some reason I read that corticosteroids are more widely used? Does anyone know whether long term acting beta agonists or cortisteroids are safer long term? What is safer on the heart? Also does xanax counter effect the high blood pressure etc. associated with asthma medicines?
1580703 tn?1651904887 I have cortisol levels of 2.4. Can this be caused by long term symbicort/albuterol? Does asthma mean that my lungs are damaged or only inflamed?
Avatar n tn She said I was quite a bit lower than expected, especially for the amount of exercising I do. She gave me albuteral and symbicort (plus some hayfever meds) and asked me to use the peak flow meter. I generally have been at about 450 on the flow meter and for my size and weght (6' tall and 160 lbs) it says I should be about 650. I don't seem to see any real improvement when I use Albuteral. The Symbicort keeps me awake at night when I take the 2x spray/2x a day.
Avatar f tn He takes a lot of albuterol and 2 puffs of symbicort twice a day. We were told to monitor his heart rate, when he was hospitalized once he had it raised hours after he had a treatment. He also gets the shakes after repeat emergency treatments. It is scary but they have to breath.
Avatar m tn I took antibiotic, and tried taking prednisone and symbicort. I simply cannot deal with side effects. Took some natural stuff too, need to get rid of this awful wheezing. What can I do?
Avatar n tn t contain any steroids. My pulmonologist has suggested I add floridil to my albuterol nebulizer. I want to make sure neither contain any steroids and I also want to find out which rescue inhaler is safe for me to use.Thank you.
959034 tn?1253671476 I use Symbicort as a preventer and rescue med to a certain degree. I use it when I feel chest tightness a lot, that doesn't go into real shortness of breath. When I'm having a sudden attack of breathing problems then I use Salbutamol (I guess it's like your Albuterol or ventollin). My doctor told me to use symbicort 6 x per day and any additional puffs when I'm having a lot of chest tightness.
Avatar f tn I have been using Albuterol, Symbicort, and Marijuana for 8 years with no problems. Most people who smoke also have anxiety. So take their opinions with a grain of salt. However, I am not a doctor, so ask one for medical advice. I am just giving you my opinion as an everyday person, not as a medical professional trained in medications such as an RN or MD.
Avatar f tn I have been using albuterol inhalers for 18 years now, since being diagnosed with asthma. Since they changed the inhalers recently to no CFC's (yes, I care about the environment, but...) can they come up with a decent inhaler that doesn't clog up at the tip? I have to take out the cannister of my Proventil and put it in the holder for another inhaler. Makes me mad since I do not have insurance and it is a $54 inhaler.
Avatar f tn here in the uk many people get symbicort for asthma , I have been on it for around a year , and I was only diagnosed with copd a cuople of weeks ago . I found it helped me enormously, it is probably an issue of cost why they dont give it to you , as each inhaler costs around £70...
Avatar n tn I am currently on spireva, albuterol and symbicort. Symbicort can give you thrush so you have to rinse and spit after use. I quit smoking all together. It is hard because I really want one. I know if I do, It will probably kill me. I have seen suginficant improvement in my breathing. I now maintain a level of 91 and only need oxygen at night. If you have conjestion like I did and you are not coughing up blood, you can use mucinex. I had to take 2 600mg tabs twice a day.
Avatar m tn I am a 32 year old male with a somewhat mild case of asthma, and I take symbicort and albutoral as medication. I hate it. I recently developed some PVCs (heart palpatations), and I would really like to use a long term asthma controller in place of the symbicort that does not have increased heart rate as a side effect. Are there any somewhat effective asthma medications (long term controller, not rescue inhaler) that do not have increased heart rate as one of the side effects?
Avatar n tn I also take sleeping pills. I had a persistent cough that would not go away so my regular doctor prescribed Symbicort & Advair Inhalers. Ever since I am inhaling the sprays my cough has stopped. I went to the emergency room two days ago with shortness of breath and weakness and they discovered my Potassium level was too low. I know I have a lot of health issues but is this really all about asthma & allergies? or is there something else wrong with me? How do I get better?
Avatar f tn I have bronchitis with a severe cough I am taking 50mg cortisone a day I am not able to cut down yet as the cough is too severe. It's been around 4 weeks since it started as a sore throat and moved down to my chest am taking antibiotics Clarithromycin 250mg & Doxycycline Monohydrate (50mg), Rikodeine or Codeine cough suppressant, Symbicort inhaler. I'm not sleeping well a couple of hours here and there and I'm exhausted, am severely constipated.
Avatar n tn he said it was unusual i did better on the test without the inhaler..he gave me symbicort 160/4.5 and a prescription for a albuterol nebulizer.....i am really frustrated and depressed now..i feel like crying at times..i dont know whats wrong with me..i've had x rays done...i've had an ekg test done...blood tests...all came out fine....im literally sick of all this...i want to feel healthy again... i want to feel like the old me and not worry about my breath all the time...
1154802 tn?1266485720 If by inhaler you mean the dose measured albuterol, I would say use albuterol in a nebulizer instead. The reason I prefer the nebulizer is that you can use as little as you need since it is not measured. I have a small portable nebulizer (slightly bigger than a cell phone) which I take everywhere with me. As far as effictiveness is concerned, albuterol is albuterol no matter how you take it. I got off the inhaled steroids because they were killing me (literally).
Avatar f tn Long acting forms are not recommend for use by asthmatics unless they are also being used with a corticosteroid as in Advair (Symbicort and Dulera as well). Short acting forms are a form of albuterol. They last about four hours and are considered the rescue inhaler. Advair and Spiriva is a common combination of meds for COPD patients. However, you should also have a rescue inhlaer containing some form of albuterol. Combivent is another option used by many COPD patients.
Avatar m tn I'm just about at my wits end trying to figure out what's wrong with me and would greatly appreciate any help/ideas since it's beginning to ruin my life. First a little background about me: I'm a 32 yr old male, about 6ft, 190lbs in good physical condition. I've been diagnosed with asthma since the age of 3 and have had a few serious bouts over the years but overall I've been able to lead a pretty normal life.
Avatar f tn Sorry in advance but this will be a long post. Im 23 yrs old, f. Diagnosed of asthma since i was a child. I could have no asthma attack for months but when i do it is worse. Im not currently taking any maintenance before this started. Ive had an asthma flare up last month (March 2016) due to sore throat and cold. I've went to see my doctor and he prescribed me Symbicort, Albuterol neb and Z pack. Usually, this medicine combination would work for me but this time it doesn't.
Avatar n tn Flovent is not a rescue inhaler. Who told you that? Only Albuterol nebs or inhalers are rescue inhalers, Flovent is aka fluticasone, you can grow aspergillus with flovent and advair. Did you read the patient information that it can also cause resp infections as well as cataracts, over time? Have you changed your toothbrush, had dental cleanings or told your MD/ Have you been offered Mycelex lozenges or Diflucan?
