Im a medium smoker (for 9 years now) and smoke a joint every night (4 years). I take symbicort once in the mornings (9 years) and smoke about 14 ciggs per working day (after im high ill only have 2 cigarettes in 4 hours). I have asthma and mild chronic bronchitis. I know that my bronchitis is caused by my smoking, and fueled by my post-nasal drip. Its really just fluids. Chest x-rays showed healthy lungs, and diaphragm/lung capacity/breathing tests said everything was better than normal.
I recently developed some PVCs (heart palpatations), and I would really like to use a long term asthma controller in place of the symbicort that does not have increased heart rate as a side effect.
Are there any somewhat effective asthma medications (long term controller, not rescue inhaler) that do not have increased heart rate as one of the side effects?
I would really like to know, because I hate taking that symbicort.
I have had breathing tests that shows my lung capacity is 65%. I just started to take Symbicort. Could the Symbicort be raising my blood pressure, or is it all in my head? When I take my BP a couple of hours after taking Symbicort its high.
My Meds are:
Crestor 40mg
Amlodine 5mg
Synthroid .250mcg
Lisinopril 40mg twice a day
Zolpidem 10mg
Metoprolol 50mg one & 1/2 pills twice a day
Symbicort 80/4.
i started taking advair like 7 month ago and it seemed like for the first few months it was working but i had to become dependant on it everyday or else i would start weezing nonstop. after that my weezing was worst than ever and i started noticing that after i used advair my weezing was much worse. i saw this thread yesterday and now for a day and a half i havent used it and i feel alot better. i just started using sinus rinse today but i dont know if that had something to do with it also.
I have caught common colds that cleared up and went away (not the case in previous years). Advair did not work well for me. I have viral asthma, so I would normally end up with breathing difficulties (because of fluid, etc. in my lungs). I feel great and have had no side effects. I am very active.
I think that if you are someone who suffers from breathing and/or sinus difficulties, that the common cold strikes harder and longer. Our weak point!!!

What steroid inhaler is working well for you? You stated you had problems with Symbicort and I am assuming you are no longer using that. Correct?
You should try the Singulair because this can be more effective for controlling the Allergic Rhinitis and the Asthma. The physician can CLOSELY monitor your liver with labs while you are taking the medication. Liver issues CAN develop on this drug; remember this is NOT a given meaning this doesn't mean this WILL happen.
These are not adverse reactions from Symbicort. Please make an appointment with a gynecologist and/or an endocrinologist.
I am assuming your on the highest strength of Advair, but sometimes medicines stop working as good and you need to try another. I would switch to the highest dose Symbicort, I believe it is 160/4.5, or you could temporarily increase your prednisone dose and see if this helps you at all. I know it is hard I have been there! Just slow your breathing as much as possible and relax till you make it to the doctor. Post updates on how you are.
In the past 16 days I have begun using Spiriva in addition to the 2 doses of Symbicort I was using daily. Although I get good (better) results from the combination than Symbicort alone, since starting the Spiriva, I am experiencing very dry mouth, and nasal passages to the extent that I occasionally experience light bleeding when I blow my nose.

I have done a lot of research tonight, but the one thing I forgot is the cough syrup I was given: Dexamethazone*Guaifenesin. I have been taking it faithfully, 2 teaspoons every four hours (even throughout the night). I researching this I found that it can cause difficulty urinating and also shortness of breath which I have had this evening. I stopped taking the normal dosage at 6 p.m. and now, at 1:50 a.m., I went in and took only 1 teaspoon.
Finally my doctor diagnosed pneumonia and put me on antibiotics, Avamys and Symbicort. Unfortunately, either the Symbicort or the Avamyst has given me a fungal infection in the throat (and beyond ... it seems to go down quite far). This was not too unexpected as Advair gives me horrible thrush that lasts for months.
My question however is, if I stop taking the Symbicort and the Avamys will the thrush go away, or should I go see my doctor to get anti-fungal stuff (i.e. Nystatin)?
Is he rinsing his mouth out we'll after each use? If not done or may be not done thoroughly enough it can result in a fungal infection to the mouth/throat. The pharmacist should have explained this to him. I believe there would also be either a label on the inhaler near the prescription label or see it should be typed right onto the prescription label to rinse after each use. Easily treated but you will definitely want a doctor to have a look.
using prednisone for shortness of breath, It dont seem to be working Lung seems to be able to take in more are but shortness of breath not changed. Getting pain in my back lower ribs, Been on Pred 8 for 4 days, 6 for 3 days - 4 for 3 days and finishing up with 2 for 3 days 5mg, I am aslo on ventolin, Sprivia, and symbicort... any suggestions or advice ? I also just finished 6 Moxifloxacin HCL 400 mg, Nothing seems to be doing the job.
Unfortunately I do not. All I know is that Symbicort can cause many eye problems, and yours may be one of them. The only reason I am aware of this is that one of my friends is on it and has many visual disturbances from it, and it even states on the tv commercials for it that eye problems can be one of the adverse effects. I'm sure there is probably more information about specifics of the "eye/vision problems" somewhere on the web though.
She is being referred to a pulmonologist now due to the some of her meds not working well. She is experienceing wheezing a bit but not really the heavy coughing this time. Its wierd. Her doctor has been closely watching her and put her on symbicort and the proventil hfa, and singulair. thanks for the heating pad tip!
She said I was quite a bit lower than expected, especially for the amount of exercising I do. She gave me albuteral and symbicort (plus some hayfever meds) and asked me to use the peak flow meter. I generally have been at about 450 on the flow meter and for my size and weght (6' tall and 160 lbs) it says I should be about 650. I don't seem to see any real improvement when I use Albuteral. The Symbicort keeps me awake at night when I take the 2x spray/2x a day.
