Symbicort for allergies

Common Questions and Answers about Symbicort for allergies

symbicort

Avatar f tn This pregnancy, my asthma has flared up for weeks and has gone from moderately severe to severe. I just saw my pulmonologist for the first time today, and he prescribed me Symbicort, which is safe and I was not at all concerned about. I now have monthly appts with him to monitor my asthma throughout my pregnancy. My question is: Did an increase in severity of your asthma cause you to become high risk?
Avatar n tn I have shortness of breath quite often, along with weakness, grouchy moods, inability to concentrate, trouble remembering things, depression, headaches. I also suffer from real bad allergies. I take meds for depression, high blood pressure, high cholesterol & Diabetes type 2. I also take sleeping pills. I had a persistent cough that would not go away so my regular doctor prescribed Symbicort & Advair Inhalers. Ever since I am inhaling the sprays my cough has stopped.
Avatar f tn I've been getting sick with a cold just about once a month for the past 6 months. My doctor told me it's because my asthma and allergies are not under control. I was on Advair for a few months, and they switched me to Asmanex because I was still getting frequent coughs. I'm on Zyrtec for allergies. I haven't been to an allergist yet to see what I'm allergic to (have an appointment coming up).
Avatar f tn From your message, you appear to have an intolerance to the so-called non-sedating anti-histamines but hopefully will be able to take Singulair; it is a good drug for nasal allergies and also, for a fair number of people, effective treatment for asthma. And it is safe, not a cause of significant liver disease, and not associated with other side effects, deemed serious. To the best of our current knowledge, the long term use of a nasal steroid, as directed, does not pose a problem.
Avatar f tn Chest x-rays where fine. All breathing test where fine. I was sick for about 3-4 weeks. In 2005 I started to develop allergies to various fruits and veg. I also whould have on going episodes of "Asthma" flare-ups. Again Chest x-rays where fine. Dr. whould report that chould not here any wheezing. Current in the past year I have started to have allergic reactions to various vapors, perfumes ect. In the past three months they have gotten worse....more flare-ups more offen.
Avatar f tn Dulera seems to work the best for me. Symbicort does absolutely nothing for me. Everyone metabolizies medications defferently, so Symbicort may not be the best choice for you. You do want to get off the prednisone as soon as possible. DO NOT just stop taking it. That can cause serious problems. Long term use of pred will cause a host of problems from diabetes, liver and heart damage, adrenal problems... It is not a medication that should be used as a maintenance medication.
Avatar m tn I dont recall her having rapid heart rate with this symbicort, but she has had good luck with Flovent for several years.. but it just wasnt cutting it the past year for her, and needed to advance to something else, but for many years it worked pretty good. She initally experience the rapidness but it subsided. Now she is on the symbicort and hates that it is a powdery- like substance, and is still experiencing wheezing.
942934 tn?1268108382 I'm wondering what is the maximum recovery time from an acute chest infection? I have asthma and take regularly symbicort 200 (6 puffs/day). I had problems with asthma control before I got the infection, and am seeing a respirologist for this problem. Over 8 weeks ago I woke up one morning with mucous rattling in my chest, and after the third day I developed a fever. I spent 5 weeks on prednisone for the exacerbation and 10 days of antibiotics.
Avatar f tn I currently take Xyzal and Nasacort for allergies and medication for asthma (Singulair and Symbicort). I'm also taking allergy shots for cat dander and grass pollens. When I go running by wooded areas I get a horrible runny nose. My runny nose goes away about 10-15 minutes after I get inside from my run. I'm wondering if it could be from allergies or if it could be from something else. Thanks.
920958 tn?1477577593 I have had Chronic Bronchitis/Asthma Exacerbation since the end of May. (Recurring for 8 yrs on & off) I've been taking antibiotics, prednisone, symbicort, breathing treatments every 6 hours & cough syrup with codeine. I have been in the hospital twice. The symptoms have not gotten better. I went to my Pulmonary doctor yesterday and was given more prednisone and symbicort.
Avatar f tn Are you under the care of a pulmonary specialist. Also other comorbid conditions can aggravate the asthma, such sinusitis, GERD and unknown allergies. You really should be tested for allergies, if you haven't already. GERD can be silent and produce a cough as it's only symptom. If another cause can't be found then an increase in inhalers is a good idea. How many puffs/day of your Symbicort do you use? You can use safely up to 8 puffs/day.
1580703 tn?1651904887 like what kind of naturals? I think I need at least symbicort/dulera. is it safe to take 30mg prednisone for a few days?
620048 tn?1358018235 My mom had really bad allergies. It was scary she would be in her room for hours trying to just breath. If your Doc doesnt believe it is allergies just tell him to refer you anyways that you want to check it off your list off possabilities. If he doesnt give you the referal maybe try calling the allergist yourself and explaining your situation. good luck.
Avatar f tn Today was a bad day for allergies for me. I ended up using the Ventolin puffer three times today. I still feel weird using it.. I also got a nasal rinse and it's doing pretty good. I'm not feeling too bad now. I was at an antique stores today and it must have been all the dust in there (and likely a touch of mold), but I felt just awful. I have discovered I have a certain love for antiques so that's too bad.
Avatar f tn here in the uk many people get symbicort for asthma , I have been on it for around a year , and I was only diagnosed with copd a cuople of weeks ago . I found it helped me enormously, it is probably an issue of cost why they dont give it to you , as each inhaler costs around £70...
Avatar m tn I take Singulair for my asthma and it works wonders, but I am told, it's effect on allergies is very minimal. I have lots of allergies too but I have noticed, that over the counter meds like Alavert (or Walgreen's version) or ones similar, are better with allergies. My father says Singilair does help with his nasal polyps, but he also agrees it doesn't do anything for allergies.
Avatar m tn I use Symbicort for my asthma, too. I don't have high blood pressure, so I've never had a reason to monitor my blood pressure, but I looked up the side-effects of Symbicort and it says changes in blood pressure can occur. There was also a warning to use caution in patients who have severe high blood pressure. As far as I can tell, there are no known interactions between Symbicort and blood pressure medicines.
Avatar f tn What steroid inhaler is working well for you? You stated you had problems with Symbicort and I am assuming you are no longer using that. Correct? You should try the Singulair because this can be more effective for controlling the Allergic Rhinitis and the Asthma. The physician can CLOSELY monitor your liver with labs while you are taking the medication. Liver issues CAN develop on this drug; remember this is NOT a given meaning this doesn't mean this WILL happen.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I am taking inhaled symbicort for months but I still have breathing problems
Avatar n tn The pulmonologist gave me ventolin and then he gave me Symbicort 80/4.5. I only used it for a week because it raised my resting heart rate. I have had episodes of Ventricular tachycardia so I am afraid to use the symbicort. I wonder if Singulair will help?
Avatar m tn I take Advair for allergies, cat, moulds, dust and Dr.said i have sinus drip that causes me to cough a lot.Inhaler helped, but now i find i am losing my voice.I had a sore throat for 2 weeks, now my voice is very weak, only whisper, and some flem at back of throat at times. If i talk normal cracky and difficult for 2 weeks now.Sometimes i feel inhaler is causing my voice problems or both?
Avatar f tn Dear Doc, I have allergic asthma as my physician told me(I usually take Nasonex, but with the cold weather, it hasn't provided any relief). Yesterday I felt worse than usual and I thought it was just one of those "one day flu's" that I sometimes get since I have allergies. But my throat is dry, mucus is constantly draining down the back of my throat from my nose, my nasal passages and my lymph nodes are swollen 24/7.
1507301 tn?1289936394 Hi, thanks for replying my inhalers are symbicort attrovent, ventolin I cant remember my test results as i did not understand them I recently started smoking again since I had pneumonia in January I have had bronchitus, in march plerucy and now nov have a chest infection at the moment they have given me steroids and antibiotics
Avatar n tn Symbicort does not cause "soaring" blood sugars. Consult your enchronologist. You may need to go to an injectable insulin, such as Lantus.

Avatar f tn I will try to get in a routine with my nasal rinse, maybe that will help and guess I could see if I need to get back with an ENT to possibly start shots again. My allergies are all seasonal type allergies and I live in Port Arthur, Texas (Gulf Coast) so unfortunately, they can act up year round. Between that and when they burn the marshes around here, I'm doomed. Thanks for your input. I really appreciate it.
Avatar f tn You could be still experiencing these because you might not be taking the medication the way you should be. If I take my symbicort as prescribed for a week and then stop for a day or two I'm back at square 1. So maybe that could be an issue to why you still feel the way you do. The symbicort does help me a lot, don't know where I would be without it, it's literally my life. Another thing could be, your diet... certain things I eat trigger it.
