will be starting on champix and will be done with ciggarretes in 2 weeks but i was told if i take ventalin and smoke pot it could kill me and i currently take symbicort and ventalin (salbutamal sulphate) but i asked a nurse about if i was to smoke sum pot one day if i didnt take the ventalin all day would i be ok and she said yes but i would like a professionals information so my question is it ok for me to take symbicort and smoke on occasion?

I am a 32 year old male with a somewhat mild case of asthma, and I take symbicort and albutoral as medication. I hate it. I recently developed some PVCs (heart palpatations), and I would really like to use a long term asthma controller in place of the symbicort that does not have increased heart rate as a side effect. Are there any somewhat effective asthma medications (long term controller, not rescue inhaler) that do not have increased heart rate as one of the side effects?

I looked up Symbicort online (WebMd had an excellent write up for example). I know the fast acting inhalers like albuterol can cause temporary increased heart rate (about 10-15 minutes). That's the one I use most often. Next comes the steroids (oral or inhaled) for asthma management. I've used beclomethasone in the past and that's helped. My kids have used prednisone (oral) a few times but I personally avoid that one.

But, currently, you need to continue taking symbicort. Whenever you feel that you are going to get an attack of asthma, start ventolin. You need to stay away from all kinds of allergens like dust, pollution, perfumes etc. Till now, you must have observed that after eating or being in contact with any food or chemical you get an attack of asthma. Immediate similar reaction after inhaling Symbicort. Called my doctor for advise, he sends me to the Emergency room saying that these are sympoms of stroke. Last week I was diagnosed with Asthma (through a breathing test) after two bouts with Bronchitis and lots of coughing. My doctor gave me Advair. After 3 doses I began getting back pain between my shoulder blades. Not sure if it was from the Advair I took another dose and the pain got worse. I contacted my doctor and he changed me to Symbicort. I had no problem for 3 days, but after today's dose the back pain is back. Is this typical or am I doing something wrong when inhaling.

Its probably not that much help but you can use advair with provetil as I was on the two for years until I was moved to symbicort and I can still use the proventil as needed.

Did an increase in severity of your asthma cause you to become high risk? I know this baby is measuring way smaller than my last one at this time and i was just curious of anyone's personal experiences. I don't mind being high risk I'm just trying to prepare myself for what is in store for my OB appt tomorrow.

I use Symbicort for my asthma, too. I don't have high blood pressure, so I've never had a reason to monitor my blood pressure, but I looked up the side-effects of Symbicort and it says changes in blood pressure can occur. There was also a warning to use caution in patients who have severe high blood pressure. As far as I can tell, there are no known interactions between Symbicort and blood pressure medicines.

Have you tried symbicort? My asthma doc recently changed me to this and it has worked better for me.

t seem like the Asmanex is as effective as controlling my other asthma symptoms (chest tightness, noctural waking) as the Symbicort was. They would be better able to treat the allergy trigger of you asthma. They are also well trained to treat asthma since an asthmatic usually has allergies. Are you taking Symbicort and Advair? Those are the same types of medications. Both are combination medications with an inhaled steroid (ICS) and a long acting beta2 agonist (LABA - broncho dilaters). It is not good to take these two medication together as you are double dosing them. Do you also have a rescue medication?

I've been getting sick with a cold just about once a month for the past 6 months. My doctor told me it's because my asthma and allergies are not under control. I have to agree with halbashes, you should see a pulmonary specialist to re-evaluate your asthma. As uncontrolled asthma is not to be trifled with. You can buy a peak flow meter from your pharmacy, at least that is how it is here in Canada. Otherwise look online for one. halbashes seems to be in the know how on this one, check with her.

I hope he also gave you a ventolin inhaler to use when you are symptomatic, you will need this if your asthma is indeed back. You should start to breath easier with the symbicort, if nothing changes I would ask for a methacholine challenge to prove that is indeed asthma that is back.
