Symbicort and copd

Common Questions and Answers about Symbicort and copd

symbicort

Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with early copd. Since I do not have health insurance, i go to a clinic. The physician's assistant has prescribed singular for my copd, I don't feel that it is helping me very much. I mostly have shortness of breath & coughing in the evening. This disease frightens me because I don't feel I am getting the right medical advice. I asked about simbicor & spiriva and was told that those meds are for later stages of copd.
Avatar n tn Spiriva (titropium) is a inhaled antihistamine indicated for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) including emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Antihistamines frequently cause dry mouth and dry sinuses (benadryl is an antihistamine). The side effect is not considered serious, but you should call your physician if it continues. A saline nasal spray can moisturize the sinuses and possibly reduce the symptoms.
Avatar f tn I can walk a mile but have to rest as I still desaturate on 6L O2. Recently started Symbicort inhaler and systemic blood pressure went up 180/108 and was wondering if the med would be likely to raise pulmonary pressure as well. Doctor added HCT to already prescribed Diovan which seems to be working but am on low dose of Symbicort and may have to increase it.
1098963 tn?1257865718 Aside from everything else, this medication can have serious side effects. Steroids caused me a lot of physical problems (eyes, adrenals, and more) and I had to stop taking them. And in my case it was prescribed for COPD a medication commonly used for that condition. But for high blood pressure?
757137 tn?1347196453 I take supplements to reduce inflammation and thin mucus. I have moderate COPD and am doing fairly well, but would benefit from a longer-lasting medication. Any suggestions? This discussion is related to Advair Skip a Day.
1507301 tn?1289936394 Your result is a percentage of that score and indicates the status of your disability. I have COPD and keep track of my condition with it. You are taking an awful lot of stuff in addition to the antibiotics (which are a necessity for your infection). You had best look into steroids (Symbicort). There can be very serious side effects and are not recommended for COPD unless nothing else works, and, even then, only for short periods of time.
Avatar n tn I have wet macular degeneration as well as COPD and my ophthamalogist theorizes that the weird "blisters" that are appearing at the site of the oozing veins may be caused by the steroid content of my asthma medication ( namely Spiriva). So he has asked me to change to something that doesn't contain any steroids. My pulmonologist has suggested I add floridil to my albuterol nebulizer.
620048 tn?1358018235 Oh, i forgot, he did say I was having a COPD flare up, most likely from the hives and not sleeping and all that went with that. I am feeling better already. My dermotoligist , these med terms need shortened, had given me an antihistimine for the hives and it put weight on me...I looked it up and they give it to anorexic patients. So now I have another 10 lbs to take off. I need to start eating better anyway. Dennis, are you listening to this ?
Avatar m tn Hello. I am a 44 year-old firefighter. In 2009 I was diagnosed with sarcoidosis. At the time of diagnosis my FEV was 70%. My spirometry was fine before that since 2003 when I joined. After a CT scan the doctor said the sarc was no longer active. I took up cycling for the next four years built my FEV to 80%. In 2014 I had shortness of breath. The doctor told me it was Bronchospams. 3 weeks later it had subsided.
Avatar n tn you may need to continue with the inhalers like symbicort and definitely you must quit smoking
Avatar n tn I am also still coughing a bit (producing a little mucus), and feel short of breath, but my lung function is at 92% and I have optimal peak flow (475). I’ve cut back my meds to 220mg flovent twice a day, and albuterol when necessary. 1.Could the illness in conjunction with the bad air done damage to my bronchi, and if so, is it recoverable? 2.Could all this treatment have put my lungs and bronchi in a state of persistent irritation? 3.Could this be COPD?
Avatar f tn Another doctor gave me a sample of Symbicort after my COPD diagnosis. I took one dose and went back to him the next day. I had been awake all night and nearly lost my mind. Apparently I have a reaction to steroids. He then put me on Spiriva (along with my albuterol) and I haven't had any problem. This cough syrup I was given has Dexamethasone in it. Wikpedia had this to say about that: "Dexamethasone is a potent synthetic member of the glucocorticoid class of steroid drugs.
Avatar n tn I am currently on spireva, albuterol and symbicort. Symbicort can give you thrush so you have to rinse and spit after use. I quit smoking all together. It is hard because I really want one. I know if I do, It will probably kill me. I have seen suginficant improvement in my breathing. I now maintain a level of 91 and only need oxygen at night. If you have conjestion like I did and you are not coughing up blood, you can use mucinex. I had to take 2 600mg tabs twice a day.
Avatar f tn He is prescribed 16 hrs oxygen daily (we have machine)but only uses this when he feels he needs it (some days as little as 3 hours). He daily takes spiriva, symbicort and sabutamol inhalers and calcichew tablets also mucodyne capsules occassionally. These are prescribed by his doctor. He also takes Nytol (over the counter) herbal sleep tablets quite often. For the past 18months he has suffered from a tingling, burning feeling in his skin.
Avatar m tn I have been on and off a surplus of antibiotics and prednisone. I have shortness of breath and pain in the lung/ back area. I am on spiriva, symbicort, ventolin, levalbuteral, and 800 ibuprofen. This has been going on for 5 months. X- ray was clear two months ago. All blood labs and cultures clear. My doctors do not know what to do for me? I'm constantly tired and in pain and short of breath. I'm 25, and should not be this sick!
Avatar f tn She has put me on Ventolin (to use as required) and Symbicort (one puff in the morning and one in the evening) to assist me with my breathing until I recover from this cold. I am seeing my usual GP next week but I am very concerned that this could be a sign of COPD as I used to be a smoker for 22 years and quit 4 months ago . Can someone please give me some advice?
Avatar f tn I SUFFER FROM CHRONIC COPD AND I HAVE NO INSURANCE SO THEREFORE I HAVE NO DOCTOR. THE DRS. I HAD PREVIOUSLY HAVE PRESCRIBED ME COMBIVENT INHALER AND ALBULTEROL BREATHING TREATMENTS. THE REASON THEY PRESCRIBED THESE IS I CAN USE MY HUSBAND'S VA PROVIDES IT FOR HIM. MY QUESTIONS ARE: DO I ALSO NEED TO BE TAKING SYMBICORT OR ADVAIR? WHAT CAN I DO TO TRY TO MANAGE MY COPD BESIDES QUIT SMOKING WHICH I HAVE CUT DOWN TO A HALF A PACK A DAY. WHICH IS ALL THAT I CAN ACCOMPLISH NOW.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I still can't exhale well and have resistance even on symbicort and prednisone, comibvent inhaler. is low oxygen eventually going to kill some of my brain cells? will pangraf or xolair (my IGE 165) help me breathe? my O2 is down to 86-88 during the day.
1422961 tn?1282587806 I am 49, have had COPD for over 15 years, and had a wedge resecction done in Jan. 2008. Every time i have my 02 checked it is excellent, but i am always at rest. (I wish they would check it when i walk in the door gasping for air). At times i get headaches from just walking through the grocery store and have to use my hands to 'crawl' up the stairs. I am on disability and want to stay off oxygen as long as i can, but i can't go on like this much longer.
Avatar f tn Long acting forms are not recommend for use by asthmatics unless they are also being used with a corticosteroid as in Advair (Symbicort and Dulera as well). Short acting forms are a form of albuterol. They last about four hours and are considered the rescue inhaler. Advair and Spiriva is a common combination of meds for COPD patients. However, you should also have a rescue inhlaer containing some form of albuterol. Combivent is another option used by many COPD patients.
1086884 tn?1328640455 I now suffer from COPD and with the medication I have been on (Advair, Symbicort) I still have trouble breathing but I do exercise. I ride a stationary bike and use the treadmill each evening and it has helped with my breathing. Good luck.
Avatar m tn You may not have COPD. x rays and a good lung doctor could help more than a regular MD. I don't cough a whole lot unless I have an exacerbation. then I am treated with pregnozone. My regular treatment is spiriva, pro air, symbicort. I take 2 mucinex and 1 loraterdane. please excuse spelling.
Avatar f tn says there is no fluid around my heart. I do have COPD and I use symbicort twice daily.
Avatar f tn Although smoking is the most common cause of emphazema and COPD, it is not the only cause. There are genetic causes and unknown causes. My guess is that the pulmos are correct and you have COPD/emphazema (a form of COPD). I had the same problem with Advair Discus. I have since sworn off dry powder inhalers completely. Dry powder inhalers have larger particles. If the proper technique is not used, it settles in places it isn't supposed to settle.
Avatar n tn t quite sure myself about the Symbicort and blood sugar levels, so I did a little research and here is a link to what I found - it comes directly from the Symbicort website. http://www.mysymbicort.com/asthma/index.aspx?source=20048&WT.
