Swollen uvula treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Swollen uvula treatment

swollen

Hey there, My uvula has been swollen for some months and I have been to a doctor a few times with little success. The first thought my doctor had was bacterial infection so antibiotics were prescribed. Those did not work so steroids were the next choice. Again, no change. I was advised to take Claritin-D for a few weeks to see if that would reduce swelling in my sinuses and help my uvula calm down. That has not helped either.
the problem I'm having since then has been with my throat....somehow during the intubation my uvula took a hit and is quite swollen and bruised at the bottom.....how typical is this? and about how long does it take to heal? It's not having an adverse effect on my breathing....but it does cause a gagging sensation and makes swallowing/eating difficult.
I felt like my throat was closing up and I could feel my uvula sitting on my tongue. And after looking in the mirror I could clearly see that my uvula was very red and swollen. And the rest of my throat very red too. I havent noticed any white spots on the back of my throat. I am 11weeks pregnant and am worried that i maybe wasting my gps time by going down to the surgery because he may not be able to give me any medication which would help me while im pregnant.
Hi, I woke up at 1am Saturday morning with a suddenly very swollen uvula, which makes swallowing difficult. My throat has been extremely painful since then for 4 days, the pain gets quite sharp and radiates to my nose, right ear, and now to the sinuses around my eyes and forehead.
I have lost over 17 pounds ( ok not such a bad thing, but not for a good reason), my back of my throat is swollen as well as my voice box, which are swollen quite badly. I cough to the extreme as to try and clear my throat.. to the point where I vomit, and my head feels like it is going to explode. I have had a Upper GI done and it came back no problems.. I think they need to do more tests and I am going to make sure they do................Oh and with this..
I am in my 60's and have only just started to have either a swollen face or, on the last two occasions, a swollen tongue, which all started in September. The first time I had a swollen tongue was 4 weeks ago and I ended up in hospital. I had already taken Piriton but it didn't help. At the hospital they gave me Prednisolone which worked very quickly and I was packed off home with another 2 days supply.
After 5 days of treatment my tonsils and uvula are severely swollen with a some white specs on the tonsils. The pain has intensified on my right side. I can see the right side has a reddish swelling that starts from the puffy gum and proceeds up along the wall of my mouth near the back and appears to be pushing on my right tonsil. I also noticed it stems up towards the roof of my mouth a little. It hurts when touched and feels softer than the other side of my mouth.
Pain remained and started spreading through my entire face up to hairline down to jawbone including left ear and throat. Throat and neck on right side is swollen, throat is so swollen, uvula is swollen and pushed over to left side of throat. Pain in face is almost unbearable. Called doctor who called in a prescription for erythromycin (Z-Pac). I have now taken 2 days worth. Pain is now more bearable, but is still in entire face. Throat and neck swelling has not gone down.

This feels different then anything else I have encountered. I went to a dr and they said my throats no red or swollen. I don't feel as if I have a viral illness but you never know. The dr said no ENT until its been going on for one month or more. My husband took this picture of my throat what the heck are those bumpy thing behind my uvula? normal? This doesn't look like other throats I have seen online.
It is often caused by post-nasal drainage and the mucous you are producing may be thick and tenaceous giving you a tickling sensation. An elongated or swollen uvula with post-nasal drainage can also give you this feeling. Severe laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) can give a foreign body/tickling sensation but this condition may present with other symptoms associated with it. It is best to consult an ENT specialist and get examined.
not very often • Painful to swallow • Can still eat, talk, sing, etc. with very minimal pain • Sort of swollen uvula • Sort of swollen tonsils • White thingies sort of in my tonsils...probably tonsil stones. I hope so. • Back wall of throat is pretty pink • Sneezing, only on occasion; it's July, maybe a summer cold? • White "furry" tongue • Clearing of throat I'm 21 years old and ♂ male. Maybe it was a few days ago, but I coughed up a very vile-smelling off-white glob of...stuff...
It all started with my voice getting hoarse, then I had hard time to swallow sometimes solid food, mu uvula was always swollen. It felt like sinus infection. I have gone to the doctor and he gave me Biaxin. I could not take it, because it gave me terrible diarrhea, so I have gone back and he gave me 250 Amoxil for seven days. In the meantime the glands in my neck swelled, mostly on my left side, my neck hurts, my eye on the left side is blurry sometimes and I feel pressure behind the ear.
I had unprotected sex with a girl of unknown sexual history three months ago, and now I have a very swollen neck lymph node ONLY on the right side. It has been swollen like that for those three months with no cold or flu symptoms. The salivary duct in my right cheek by the upper molars is inflamed. My uvula has undergone changes as well, feeling largely hollow but with a small spherical bump in the very end of it.
My symptoms resolved with treatment using Thrush ointment although I swear I can see small blisters in my vagina (which persist to this day). One week ago, I developed a severely sore throat, several days later I developed small pimple like spots on the back of my throat. My uvula is red and inflamed but does not have any spots on it. I have been very sick with a fever, swollen glands and general flu-like symptoms including a productive cough.
Yesterday we had sex again (after the 10 day break for my treatment) and i bled a bit, it was also painful and afterwards my inner labia were very. very swollen, like balloons. It was very uncomfortable but it went away in a few hours. We also had oral sex. I developed a very sore throat, which i thought was oral thrush, which i maybe got from his penis, supposing the yeast infection wasn't cured.
-very scratchy, swollen, dry throat with difficulty swallowing since 21 August. Feels like a foreign body is stuck behind my adam's apple. -white spot/pus on uvula that went away with prescribed Z-pak in late August, but persistent white spots in back of throat to the present. -mild headaches; abdominal & neck pain. I've not had any penile symptoms whatsoever (no discharge, no obvious sores/chancres, no pain while urinating).
Just today the thing (uvula) in the back of my throat began to bother me and looks elongated. It doesn't really hurt it is just noticably there. Again, I am probably just a little bit too watchful of my body now, but all of these little things together are not doing well for me.
I mentioned thyroid at the ENT, nurse said that swelling/symptoms are usually lower, under Adam's apple. My throat is a bit swollen on left side, left of Adam's apple and a bit above. Let us know what happens.
It was then when I first had this strange feeling that i have something in my throat and when I notice something white on my uvula. This is why I think this might be a symphtom. Thanks for your post! And thank you Kmar too!
I am a 21 year old male. A while back I discovered my right tonsil was red and swollen. About a year ago I went into an Urgent Healthcare Facility and a Doctor noticed it and said it was probably because I was a smoker and the smoke was irritating it. Ive been a smoker for about 4 years. I was in the same Urgent Care Facility yesterday to get checked out for a cough and I inquired about my tonsil.
Your first item- sounds like you are describing the area of your right tonsil. The uvula is the little dangly thing in the middle. Have your doctor check to see if you have a problem on your right tonsil (compared with your left). If you had your tonsils removed, as I did at age five, know that they can grow at least partially back, even if they used mirrors during the surgery, because mine did.
It can be treated easily with Diflucan or other antifungal agents, although most literature I have seen recommends a 14 day treatment rather than the normal 1 day treatment you might get for a Vaginal yeast infection. The recommendations I have seen say 200mg the first day and 100mg each day after for total of 14 days. I would recommend printing this out and giving it to your physician and he can take it from there.
The ear infection is gone but the feeling as if dust or hair is in the back of my throat (upper left, in the back, just behind the uvula is what it feels like). It's getting on my nerves. It doesn't hurt at all, but the feeling is driving me crazy sometime I start panicking. My family said I should stop thinking about it but I don't know how to stop. I have no fever, no swollen glands, and there's nothing visually amiss based on my inspection with a flashlight in front of the mirror.
This morning I woke up with a swollen very swollen throat, palate and a inflamed dropped uvula. I was ready to go to ER but I had to take my son to school.
