Avatar f tn My thyroid gland is swollen, does a cat scan pick up you have thyroid gland cancer?
5389497 tn?1367327406 I had an enlarged thyroid gland as evidenced by a large thyroid cartilage. Cartilage covers the thyroid gland and expands as the gland enlarges when you are young. I have Hashimoto's autoimmune disease of the thyroid since I was a teen but was not diagnosed until I was 33. By then, my blood levels of thyroid hormone were so low that the Dr. wondered how I was functioning.
483088 tn?1212346249 I have swollen glands in my neck (above swollen thyroid!) and also pain under my right arm pit and down by elbow area at times. Recently I had a lump appear on my right groin which I initially assumed was a boil but it wasnt and it gradually dissappeared of its own accord like my body was gradually disintegrating whatever this was.
Avatar m tn If it is coming up normal range and you are still really concerned try and get an ultra sound on your neck to see if there is a reason why it is swollen...
Avatar f tn I have swollen gland on my left hand side of my throat, I have no tonsils, but when it really gets really swollen I find it very hard to breath and swallow, please help.
Avatar m tn That makes me think that the destruction of your thyroid gland has caused nodules to form on the gland. Those nodules can leak thyroid hormone faster than normal, resulting in test results like yours. So, it would be a good idea to get an ultrasound test of your thyroid gland to check for nodules. If those are present then the doctor could give you antithyroid medicine as needed to offset the high level of thyroid hormone.
Avatar n tn By taking the correct amount of thyroid hormone by mouth, the thyroid gland will soon stop functioning...Once the thyroid stops working, it will sort of fall off the radar screen of the immune system and it will no longer send antibodies to attack the thyroid gland. If the gland is not attacked, there is no inflammation..." Based on this article, I assumed that once we Hashis reach the correct thyroid levels, the antibodies stop attacking, and we will no longer feel the throat swelling.
Avatar n tn Need assistance: In 2002 I had full upper/lower Orthognathic Surgery (jaw) last year I began having problems with my thyroid gland and swollen glands. I've had a 2 biopsy's performed, blood work, etc; and now taking thyroid medication. Surgery likely to remove thyroid gland. I have had sever TMJ on right side (condyle deterioration), and also on the same side has a root canal performed 3 years earlier. Which all reside on the same side as the thyroid nodule.
Avatar m tn thyroid is part of the endocrine system that gi doc wanted checked. the pituitary gland is deep inside your head and cannot be felt. swollen gland in your neck and groin are why they are doing the blood work. the prostate would have been checked by the gu doctor as wall as any issues with urethra.
Avatar f tn 2 cm in the right side of her thyroid gland and few colloid cyst on the right side. We are going for a second opinion now so please tell me is it really necessary to remove the entire thyroid gland? She is just 16 years old.
Avatar n tn I really do not think it is your thyroid, rather your pituitary gland. That gland is in control of many functions. Prolactinoma is a small tumour (never cancerous, just a pain in the butt!) of the pituitary gland. It controls excess hormone of the hormone responsible for producing milk...hence your lactating breasts. The high libido can also be part of that.
Avatar n tn Thyroid gland swollen and Heterogeneous with very little normal parenchyma left. Large reactive lymph nodes seen on both sides. If anyone can help that would be great it might put my mind at rest... Thanks to all ....................
164435 tn?1377102256 Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis is a common autoimmune condition in which one develops an allergy to one’s own thyroid gland. In the early phase when there is destruction of thyroid gland and spillage of thyroid hormone (T4), there is a hyperthyroid effect. In an effort to lower the T4 level in the blood, the pituitary gland decreases the amount of TSH it secretes producing a low TSH. The hyper-metabolic state that occurs usually stresses the adrenal glands and causes adrenal fatigue.
Avatar n tn Then about 6 wks ago started with very bad headaches, and left jaw pain kind of like TMJ, was sent for CT of sinus they dont see anything then a week ago woke up in pain with swollen Pirotid gland in my neck and jaw. I was given antiobiotics and a shot of steriods and was told it's just swollen. Do you think this has anything to do with my thyroid??
Avatar f tn Quite frankly, I've never heard a thyroid referred to as "bulky", so the only thing I can think of that possibly there is inflammation causing that lobe to be swollen and inflamed looking. Perhaps it's indicative of a thyroiditis, but I can't say that for sure. Isoechoic means the sound waves are equal to those of the surrounding tissue. Is there a conclusion or "impression" at the end of the report?
Avatar f tn I have a right swollen gland. I also get severe sweats during the day. This seems to worsen prior to my period. I am not going through menapause. In the past I was checked for pheochromocytoma. Is there any type of hormone that makes your glands swell and gives you SEVERE night sweats.I am also fatigued. Are there any glands on the outer part of the ear canal? That seems to swell at the same time to the point of closing the ear canal and impeding on my hearing.
Avatar f tn I really do not have many of the typical symptoms associated with hypothyroidism, besides mild fatigue, reduced appetite, and a swollen thyroid gland. I have lost between 5 and 10 pounds since my first diagnosis last fall without any efforts to lose weight. Where do I proceed from here? My doctor seemed very surprised by the increase in TSH, and has switched my medicine from generic levothyroxine to Synthroid to see if my body will respond.
1463533 tn?1286055554 Hi....your scenario is what mine was for over a year...right side nodule...got bigger and it was due to Hashi as well as "Thyroiditis" (inflammation of the thyroid gland")..this will cause extreme pain in the jaw and up through the ear. I lived through constant bouts of it...my only therapy was prednisone and taking my synthroid 75...
Avatar f tn During the second surgery, which removed my remaining thyroid tissue, 3 lymph nodes were stuck to the side of the thyroid and were removed when the thyroid was removed, and 8 more swollen lymph nodes were removed in a clump from the "central compartment" of my neck. All 11 of those lymph nodes were non-cancerous. Swollen lymph nodes can be caused by the immune system's attack on the thyroid with Hashimoto's.
Avatar m tn Turns out I had what is called a gorder and gravesdisease (hyperthyroidism). I had to have my thyroid gland removed. If you have not had your thyroid gland check it my me worth a shot. I hope whatever it is you find out soon and get to feeling better. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Hypoechoic when used to describe a single thyroid nodule compared to surrounding tissues has a higher probability of being malignant, however, when the entire thyroid gland is described as hypoechoicit often indicates an inflammatory thyroid disease such as Graves or Hashimoto's. Heterogeneous echotexture is usually found in patients with Graves or Hashimoto's as well. That just means the overall texture of the gland varies and is not "isoechoic" or the same throughout.
Avatar n tn I would rule out mumps, as your face would be quite swollen by now. Swollen glands can come and go. Thyroid problem would be next on my list. You'll have to see a doctor in order to rule out anything nasty.
Avatar m tn TSH, FT3, FT4 Post those results, along with any symptoms you are experiencing, such as fatigue, constipation, joint pain, rapid heart rate, ear pain, etc...
Avatar m tn Hashimoto's does cause swelling and inflammation; however, the thyroid gland doesn't necessarily "stay" swollen all the time. You have to antibody tests to confirm/rule out Hashimoto's. There should be an "impression" at the end of the report, which would recommend future follow up or FNA, etc. Does your report have that and if so, what does it say? Many of us have nodules on our thyroid, that only require periodic u/s to watch them.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia however have more problems. The last blood test results were done in May (ranges are in parenthesis) FT4 - .7 (.6 -1.8) TSH 2.13 (.35-5.5) FT3 2.9 (2.3 – 4.2) TPO <10; I have had my left thyroid gland removed due to nodules, right gland has two nodules each less than 1CM in size, gland is enlarged. Currently experiencing swollen tongue, swelling around eyes, coldness in feet at all times, hands at night.
397090 tn?1240497812 well its back ...same gland swollen again ...same pain (just not as bad yet)....has anyone had this happen to them?....anyone ever get a true diagnosis?...i plan on goin back to dr. just dont wanna spend thousands for them to tell me ..
487969 tn?1249313291 The heterogeneous gland structure is usually the sign of thyroiditis. As the antybodies are low, one of the following conditions may apply: De Quervain's Thyroiditis. De Quervain's Thyroiditis (also called subacute or granulomatous thyroiditis) was first described in 1904 and is much less common than Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. The thyroid gland generally swells rapidly and is very painful and tender.
