I'm 45, my top lip gets dry for a few days then a tiny bump shows up, then my lip swells pretty big, for a few days mostly at night. swelling subsides a little during the day has a tingling in it after several days my lip cracks and drains this happens a few times a year. All together from beginning to end it lasts about 2 weeks.
Hey my name is Molly and im 16, Last night i had Cattage pie and Green beans together and after i ate my top Lip had swollen up and started stinging and its still swollen and stinging now. I'm very confused because i Love cottage pie and Green beans and its a dinner i have regulary and its never happened before.
More of the problem:- It's only my top lip and its stinging also a bit itchy, and its dry around the lip but the lip itself isn't.
I had the same problem a few times last spring and summer and now it seems to be the same thing. My top lip would get swollen either on one side or the entire lip at night. It would usually be back to almost normal by afternoon the next day. It started out slowly with just minor tingling sometimes, then progressing into a lot of swelling and taking longer and longer to go down with each time it occurred. Occurrences also go more and more frequent.
I don't think this is just age, I'd head to your doctor to have them look into other possibilities.

Some causes of the symptoms you mention, could be lip biting, lip licking, Vit.B2 deficiency, smoking, overexposure to sun and ill fitting dentures. In extreme cases, this could be due to bacterial or fungal skin infection.
You need to drink plenty of water daily – around 1.5 – 3 litres per day and eat a balanced diet. Do not keep your lips dry; apply lip balm which contains sunscreen – preferably a medicated one.
Hi, the blisters could be due to many causes. If it occurs every time you apply the lip balm it could be an allergic reaction, more so as it is associated with itching. It could also be due to Herpes simplex infection. Here, the virus can lie dormant and can get reactivated at intervals producing symptoms. Another cause could be eczema. So, avoid the balm and see if the symptoms still appear then check with your doctor to rule out a herpes infection. Regards.
For about 3 months my lips have been flakey around the outer edges into the corners. It's only my upper lip that seems to have the problem. It is sometimes numb, especially in the mornings. It is very dry, like no moisture is getting to it. I keep it caked with moisturizer, like carmex, but it only helps temporarily. The upper lip is also swollen at times. My husband can see that there's a problem, but only when I get right in his face. HELP!!
I have swollen lips. The swelling is especially in my lower lip. It started in the early morning of a cold day two years ago. I saw my lips were dry and I rubbed until the dry skin come off. After 30 minutes I felt like my lower lip pop out since then I have this swollen and irregular lips. because of this I can't talk properly. I tried all the chap sticks and lip balms but nothing helped. I also tried topical steroids(Elidel, Desonide, etc.) but no improvement.
My tongue is always swollen on left side. Throat gets tight and trouble swallowing. My lip also turns blue. Any advice of where to go? Neuro is next month. Hope to get MRI. So frustrated. I am so dehydrated my skin is scaly and my throat has coating constantly. I hate this!! Anyone know what this could be? I have everyone stumped.

Also today, one of my cheeks was swollen as well as the area right above my chin below my lower lip. This swelling too keeps going up and down.
I went to the doctor and she diagnosed me with having shingles since I have had chickenpox when I was younger. Even though I have no typical symptoms of shingles she still thinks that is what I have.
Until around New Years Eve night my lip piercing was accidentally hit which left my lip very sore and swollen next morning I notice that the lump under my chin had gotten bigger.
