I quickly fell to the floor and it jammed it pretty good on the hard wood gym floor, right above the knee cap. My knee immediately began to swell and a humongous bruise the impact area. my director became very concerned and sent me to teh nurse right away. I have applied ice and heat reguarly but it's still fairly swollen and the bruising is spreading. My knee has sudden jabs of pain radomly throughout the day, and it hurts to apply pressure to all of my leg.
The sharp pains have stopped but I'm left now with constant pain. My knee cap and area above the knee cap are swollen and stiff. I can't walk well and have a lot of pain when bending the knee, like getting up and down from a chair. Recently my calf started hurting upon walking. At times, the calf hurts more than the knee. I don't know if it's because I'm walking differently to make up for the knee pain or if there is something else going on.
I don't understand why my knee is giving out on the outside and hurting behnd my knee on the outside if the tear is on the outter rim of the inside of my knee. Is this common? Also right above my knee cap really hurts, like something is tugging at it. I haven't been able to walk and am extremely frustrated that this Dr. is not taking an aggressive approach on me knee since it has been almost 3 months since the injury now, and nothing has changed- if anything it is getting worse.
it' now been about seven days and I'm still in pain. The pain is on the inside of my knee. It is swollen, and my whole leg appears to be swollen. my knee is also red. Without my knee brace on, my knee feels weak and unstable. Any idea what could be wrong? Thanks very much.

Hi all, I am 45 had a total knee replacement in 2/09. After two weeks my knee cap dislocated 6 times. Went into water therapy to strengthen the quads to help it from dislocating and went on Oxycotin in addition to Lortab. Leg was swollen, painful, and didn't work. May had a manipulation. Things improved a little but did not reduce swelling, pain, or stability. Feel down stairs in August as knee gave way. Had steriod pack helped a little while taking them.
i went to physical therapy were the doctor then said it is a fluid and inflammation that is underneath the knee cap. It then pushes an air pocket that is under the knee cause it to pinch something or push something that sends this shock down my leg. sometimes mine goes up my thigh or it can go down to my ankle sometimes causing my toes to go numb. i am going back to the doctor tomorrow because it is more painful now.
Possibilites include pre-patella bursitis, which would cause swelling in front of the knee cap or an injury inside the knee such as damage to the cartilage or even an ACL tear.
Went to another orthopedic doctor who said my knee cap was slightly too far to the right and so out of its groove. I used Advil, Bengay, ice, rest and got a knee brace for compression. I'm now scheduled to start physical therapy tomorrow to strengthen one muscle. I still don't think the answer to the electric jolts has been found.
Recently I went to physical therapy for about 7 weeks and that took care of most of my pain. Now I feel as if I need more therapy because my knee is very swollen above and below my knee cap, I get muscle spasms, and if I twist wrong, I get a sharp pain. It feels like someone is stabbing my knee with a knife. I also purchased a knee brace that seems to help my pain when I am doing physical activities and climb stairs. I don't know what to do.
I have had both knees done, and glad I'm this end of it, but like others I have clunking. My right knee swells and feels like it is pulling away from my knee cap. Now if I walk too far, and 'm only talking half a kilometre, I am in agony. My muscles at the back of my thighs feel like lead weights. The tightness doesn't seem to be improving. I am doing all the excercises including bike. I am going to try physio, although my surgeon thought I was doing so well I shouldn't need it.
My Brusa sack on top of the knee cap is swollen again for me. However its swollen more towards the left of the knee rather then the center. About 3 years ago My bursa swelled up due to constant friction of the knee rubbing againts a wrestling gym mat. It was swollen and very irritable/stinging to the touch. The bursa eventually popped and I had to get my knee drained. Right now the Bursa just seems to be swollen.
About 3 months ago I had my first episode with this. My hands got warm, itchy, and swollen. The swelling moved up to about 1 inch above my wrist. I went to the doc and he said it was angiodema. Gave me a shot of cortisone. One mone later my lower left lip started to swell and it move up the right side of my face. Went to doc and got another shot. Now about another month I got a episode on the left side of my face. Another shot.
the most I can bend is like 90 degrees, after that, I feel a bad pull in my quadriceps muscles. My quadriceps muscles have swollen just above my knee cap. There is no color or pain. It is just that I feel a bad pull when I bend my knee, its swollen, difficult to walk because of the knee bending problem, there is no pain on the swollen part, but it hurts my quadriceps muscles when I try to bend my knee. Please give me a solution to this problem. I will be more than grateful.

3 days later I could barely walk and it hurt to do anything but lay on my right side in a fetal position. A small amout of blood pooled in my ankle while the back of my knee became swollen. I did a week of rest, ice and elevation and saw a tad bit of improvement. (All the while waiting for my Primary appt.) Today I have a 4 inch knot in my calf muscle, about half way down the back of my leg. It doesn't hurt, I tend to think it's fluid.
Over the past year I have gotten recurring pain in my left shoulder, a swollen left wrist ( a couple times), groin pain, and most recently a swollen left ankle, and a swollen left knee. With all of these the pain subsides over a couple days and I feel normal for a couple weeks. Right now the left knee is still a bit swollen but does not hurt anymore, my left shoulder pain has come back, and my middle and ring fingers in my left hand have pain where they meet the hand.
Yesterday at work i turned around quick and hit my knee cap and When I Did this I felt it move out of place then back to its right position after I fell down. I can still walk around and it doesn\'t feel like it wants to give out. But I can\'t determine the difference if my knee is swollen or has fluid built up. I\'m keeping my knee elevated. Is there anything else i should do besides elevating?
Well, I got a reaction to the SynVisc hylan and suddenly my left knee was all swollen, my right knee was the size of a cantaloupe, I was in incredibly intense pain and couldn't even walk. Was I now going to have to spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair? It looked that way. "Jane, that's really a sad story," you might say, "but what's your point?
My knee was still swollen at a year post surgery so I scheduled an appointment with my knee surgeon. My knee surgeon comes up with the diagnoses that I am have a reaction to the graft used in my knee. He took some fluid from my knee and put me on some anti-inflammatory medication. The anti-inflammatory medication did help some but the swelling never went completely down. In all of these different test including the knee fluid it shows that I have a high white blood count.
40 pm Unusal movements have begun in my right leg, mostly the thigh under my knee cap and my calves. It only starts to jerk uncontrollably at night, maybe couple of times during the day, but not as bad as night time. This unknown pain and movement has been going on for weeks before this date and time. Theres nights when a sudden jerky movement will wake me up out of a sleep. I also begin to feel slight jerking movement in my left leg also.
this time they cut my muscle on the one side and released it on the other side of my knee cap because it was popping out of place, so he sewed back the one he cut and just released it on the other side so it would move right, and so my knee wouldn't pop out of place anymore. but if i do any physical activity and force my leg to get back to where it was, it will mess up all the work he did.
Get a kitchen towel and wet it with hot water. Wring it out. Wrap it around knee. Then wrap heating pad around knee. Elevate leg above heart. If your able to lay like this for as long as you can the better. This will really help with swelling more than anything else. I had to lay like that for three days straight on first blood clot. Only getting up for petty breaks.
Right after that healed I started noticing small dime sized bruises on my calf ( just after the above bruise healed) and on my right arm, one on my knee cap and then another on my inner right thigh. These bruises all are pink/light red in color, round or oval shaped and go away entirely in about 4 days. This morning I see a very small bruise on my left upper arm. These are all happening at random and spread out times.
Then she ordered an EKG and that I was told was perfect, She made me sit there and I told her about the burning down the side of my thigh to knee cap, she took a little hammer and smacked around my knee cap, I dont know what this should have done but it did nothing, I mean sure if felt it but my leg didnt pull back or anything She then asked me to stand after I told her my head goes numb, my arms, shoulders, upper back, chest, down my sides and down in too my belly, She put her fingers on m
I also requested my latest doctor to repair my left knee again since the knee cap was higher than the one he had just repaired (right) which "feels" in the right spot. So I voluntary had a surgery in 2005 trying to shorten the length of the tendon….the recovery was fast…..I did that because on my research I learned that "Patella Alta" is a condition that increases the chances of the injury.
While waiting for the results my knee blew right back up. The swelling is mainly above the knee cap right on top the base of the quads, leaving the muscle unable to "fire" or flex. I can no longer walk on the leg and PT says they can only use a tens unit on the knee with ice in hopes of getting the swelling down. Its been a full week like this now, the swelling is not receeding despite elevation and icing attemps there and at home.
