Common Questions and Answers about Swollen gums and sore throat

swollen

I've been to a Doctor and she said the sore throat symptoms are common this past few weeks. But I'm having trouble eating because my gums are so sore and the sore throat will not go away and it has been 5 days now. Are these symptoms suggestive of a STD? Thanks for any help you can provide.
Take a diet rich in vitamin C and B it will help in your sore throat and swollen gums both. Warm saline gargles will provide relief in sore throat. Consult a physician and get yourself evaluated. I do hope it helps. Take care and regards!
after the second or third dose or antibiotics, my gums were practically back to normal and of course my sore throat and the pus covering my tonsils started to clear. i am going back to the doc today because as luck would have it, the same exact symptoms are showing a year later. hope this helps.

I got some antibiotics and some viral medicine but it hasnt been getting any better. all i have been able to eat is jello and popcicles. How long did it take to go away? what did you take or do?
My throat is no longer as painful as it was originally, but it is still very painful and colored the same way. Also, the infection has spread to my gums and gums feel smooth to my tongue, are red, black, and white, and are also very painful. Also, two more canker sores have appeared in the last 48 hours. I have an appointment to see my PCM at the beginning of next week. Is there anyway you could shed some light on to what is happening in my mouth? P.S.

sore gums, slight sore throat and sores on tongue... Hello..did you ever find out what was going on with you? I have the same symptoms and i'm very concerned. Thanks..
The sore throat felt localized and almost felt more like there may be sores down my throat as opposed to an "overall" sore throat. The soreness came and went away, but would return when I ate food that was bad for sore throats. The taste bud problem completely went away. My neck was pretty sore around the beginning of the sore throat. Two weeks ago or so ago I started having a cough with white mucous.

Each time I stop Valtrex, it seems to take longer for the virus to reappear but it almost always reappears in the form of swollen and painful gums. I had this same symptom (although much more severe) when I initially contracted the infection together lesions on the penis and testicles and one strange lesion on my lower stomach. At the time of initial infection, I also ran a fever for a couple days. Prior to contracting HSV1, I never had problems with my gums.
So, here is why I am writing this. I still have that sore throat but in my chest feeling and now my tongue feels swollen and my throat as well (So much so that I'm starting to snore at night-which my husband finds amusing), my whole torso just feels achey, when I wake up most mornings both sides just below my ribs in the back are ackey. Allergies?? Nothing?? Please point me in the right direction.
Hello and hope you are doing well. The receding painful gums and the blister may not be related to the throat infection. They can occur due to local or systemic causes. Local causes like tooth infections, tooth abscess or periodontal disease. Some medications like dilantin and calcium channel blockers like nifedipine can cause swollen and painful gums. They are more common in smokers, in people with poor dental hygiene, with vitamin deficiencies and are known to be associated with stress.
By early Tuesday morning my gums were very swollen and I had swollen glands in my neck. I started running a low fever and having body aches. I also developed a sore throat. On Thursday I got a painful white bump on my tongue. By the end of the day I had two more. It is now Saturday and I have even more bumps. I went to the DR on Thursday. I tested negative for strep. He said it sounded Bacterial and gave me Amoxicillin of which I have now taken 5 doses.
Hello, About 4 months ago, I got a fever, sore throat, really swollen gums, and a blister on my lower lip. I was on vacation at the time, and as soon as i got back home, i went to my doctor and she swabbed for strep throat. turns out, it was. however, my swollen gums never went away and they were kind of receding (which makes me think that I also have gingivitis) I'm really wondering if all this has caused some form of blister to form on my lip.
For the past 2 days it has become very painful to brush my teeth. When I am done I look at my gums and they are bruised. At first I thought they were bleeding but they are just bruised and really burn. The day before this started happening I noticed swelling under my tongue. I do not have a sore throat, nor am I sick. I just feel like I have swollen "glands" under my tongue. If there even are glands, I assume their are salivary glands there but not sure what I am looking at.
You'll get input on this one I'm sure. I had sore throat and gland problems early in tx then later only dry cough for the rest of tx.48weeks. You could get checked but I'm pretty sure it's the meds.
Ok, My gums have been swollen and sore for a couple of days, they hurt when I brush my teeth or eat and sometimes bleed and I keep getting a sore throat that comes and goes, my throat is red. I also have 3 lie bumps on my tongue and yesterday my ear even started to hurt a little. What does this sound like?
I do also suffer from bleeding gums, espescially when I brush my teeth. I am at any risk of STD's? Also 3 days later I had a sore throat, swollen and stiff neck. It did ease up after about 5 days but has now returned on the other side. Thanks very much for your help.
I had an HIV oral test at four weeks and it was negative but this sore throat won't quit. My left tonsil is slightly more swollen and I have slightly lymph node on that side. The throat is worse in the mornings. I understand my low risk factors but if this sore throat would just go away I wouldn't be so anxiety stricken. It is really interfering with my daily life and I have constant panic attacks. Can you tell me if this could be a sign of HIV?
I have been having these symptoms as well, sore throat on and off and feeling as though it is inflamed and irritated, also got a funny metalic taste in my mouth that will not go away. Been to the doctors and they sent me to the chemist for some paracetamol and strepsils?? Mmmm not very helpful really. If anyone finds out what the matter is please post it on here as would be really interested. Looks as though its becomming very common.
Hi, last night I began having a strange type of pain under my tongue on the right side at the base of the mouth - the pain feels similar to a sore throat, but my throat isn't sore. I don't have a fever or swollen lymph glands. Also the pain hasn't gotten worse. I can only feel the pain if I move the tongue up or if I swallow a large amount of food. My throat doesn't have any swelling or redness or whiteness, my voice is still the same, ears are fine and gums are fine.
right after i had a soar throat and i took myself to hospital 3 days later i had an abssesed throat and everyone is telling me to sue my dentist???
it stayed for some days. Then after 4 weeks of the encounter I'm having severe problem with swollen gums. The swollen gums problem is staying for last 2 weeks. My question is whether this painful swollen gum can be symptom of any STD? I'm also feeling flu and I know swollen gum is a symptom of HIV. I'm so afraid. Please help.
Also I am having a real hard time eating mainly due to sensitivity of the gums, tongue ,and throat. At the top of my throat is yellowish, orangish and you can see blisters if you look into my throat normally,(with flashlight or without)I have not had all the tests you've had. I was diagnosed with glossitis.Blood tests however showed i was not suffering from folic acid or B12 defiencies.Everyone to this point seems puzzled.
