Common Questions and Answers about Swollen glands near ear

swollen

It looks like acne in a cyst form, but it itches, and now for the past 36 hours my gland near that area (near my ear) has been swollen. Am I having an allergic reaction to something like a spider bite? What can I do?
I woke up today with painful swollen glands on the right side of my neck. Tonight, I can also feel it in my ear, along with the back right side of my tongue. The pain in the glands is so sore, painful to the touch. My ear and tongue are nowhere near as painful. Any ideas or clues? I appreciate any responses :) I am new to this site and the forums, and will fill in my profile soon!
I first saw my doctor in April with swollen glands in my neck I have seen him 3 times since, today being the most recient. The swollen glands NEVER go down. They don't always hurt but it is getting more frequent and severe. My doctor said today that we would try one more antibiotic and steroid pack for 1 week and for me to return for a follow-up that if the "KNOTS" are still there in one week he wants to do a scan.
He said i had broncitus and prescribed antibotics, zpack. At that time a new symptom appeared, swollen glands on top of my collar bone. I finished the treatment and it had no-effect on this. It didn't stop the fever, or slow down the fatique. I called the doctor back and he ran a general blood test and a mono-spot test and both results were ok. I have a low-grade fever for 26 days, extreme fatigue and swollen glands on top of my collar bone.
I've been doing a lot of research, finding things on GERD (but I don't have any heartburn), and LPR (but can't figure out why my glands would be swollen because of this or the achiness up near my ears), and a thyroid problem (but still can't figure out why gland in neck would be swollen, and I don't feel any sort of lump where the thyroid would be). Also concerning is thrush in esophagus, is feeling of lump in throat that feels better with eating a symptom?
I am a otherwise healthy non smoking 18 year old male and I have two abnormal lumps on the left side of my face, one under my jaw that has been present for four weeks or so, and one I just noticed two or three days ago behind my ear near the jaw curve under the lobe of the ear. They are both very hard and immovable. the lump under my jaw at first was rather swollen and I could feel it when I swallowed (three weeks ago or so) that however has stopped and I can no longer feel it when swallowing.
For the past 5 months, my lymph glands have been swollen. Primarily on the left side of my neck, directly beside my pulse. I have had a series of blood tests over the course of this year checking liver, gallbladder, kidneys and a complete blood count. All test results are immaculate. Of course aside from my B12 deficiency, which seems to be at bay now. But it's like I went from being the healthiest person alive to being extremely unhealthy in 0.5 seconds.
I have also had constantly swollen glands at the back left side of the neck and near my left armpit since fall. The upper part of my neck swells up a lot, too, sort of like a huge double-chin running from one end of the jaw to the other. My throat feels tight, like everything inside is swollen and pushing against each other. It doesn't feel like strep and doesn't really hurt. I have been on two different antibiotics -- cephalexin and ??? (might have been doxycycline) for infection, in Oct.
most of the time it is near my ear and goes away after about 12 hours. Recently the front of my cheek will extremely swell up. Today it is on the left front cheek and is so swollen that my cheek is hard and tender and swollen from my jawbone to my cheekbone. There is no small lump, but a quarter sized lump in between my ear and front teeth. But when the front swells up it doesn't go away for a couple days.
They are movable and a little tender. The glands are soft and not very hard. I also have a pain behind my jaw near my ear. I recently had my wisdom teeth taken out and the pain is close to wear the teeth were removed. Is this why my lymph nodes are swollen?
I also started to feel aching in the same point under my left ear, but I cannot feel any sort of swollen gland there. From that point I got sick, lasted a weekend, had a mild sore throat, was tired, and at one point I coughed up some white mucus, which greatly relieved the feeling of the lump in my throat. Everything seemed to get better for a little while, but then the symptoms came back (and the swelling of the glands stayed, had never left).

didn't touch me, just looked in my eye and wrote scrip for Gentamicin. It got worse and my glands near my ear are painful and swollen and extends all the way down my neck on the right side. The whole right side of my face is swollen. I have a sore throat and drainage. I went back and Dr. asked me if I was allergic to sulfa, I said yes. (I said yes, the first time too.
I have lost over 17 pounds ( ok not such a bad thing, but not for a good reason), my back of my throat is swollen as well as my voice box, which are swollen quite badly. I cough to the extreme as to try and clear my throat.. to the point where I vomit, and my head feels like it is going to explode. I have had a Upper GI done and it came back no problems.. I think they need to do more tests and I am going to make sure they do................Oh and with this..
Thanks for the reply. Both my glands feel absolutely normal. I know what swollen glands feel like when you have a cold, and both mine feel normal. I've found that when I'm eating, the pain usually goes away....it also goes away for a while after a hot shower...weird. If it persists for a few more days, I'll go see the doc at the Health clinic at university. I'm less than 2 months away from graduating from Engineering, and I'm just trying to trudge through without any sidetracks heh.

i too have had a small pea sized lump on my ear at the back, just near to the crease. (if you put your finger just behind the lobe and rest it in the soft part, it is just above there) it is tender to touch and has been there for nearly 3 months. i dont think it has changed in size and it isnt a different colour so you wouldnt see it there until you feel it. i have not had the chance to go and see the doctor mainly because im not that worried about it but im curious to know what it could be.
I had gotten a middle ear infection feburary 2011 a few days after the mess were taken 3 swollen glands became active behind my left ear they have been there for almost 7 months now they come and go and when they flare they cause severe pain in the left side of head neck and also my face feels weird I had a ct scan done the ent says chronic sinusitis but I have no signs oof chronic sinusitis
I called my Uncle last night because he's a podiatrist (I know its a foot doctor but he went to medical school) and he said that my swollen glands near my ear/jaw are probably just the toxins leaving my body through my lymphatic system. He said if I do have strep throat that the toxins will leave through the lymphatic system last and so you'll feel them linger the longest. However, today I woke up and my throat is killing me again.
The wick was used to basically keep my ear pryed open enough for the aggressive anti-biotic ear drops he put me on to get through the EXTREMELY swollen ear canal. I mean SWOLLEN! The entire left side of my face quadrupled in size and was putting pressure on my skull causing a brain bleed. So the E.R. doc admitted me and put me on 3 oral anti-biotics and the aggressive ear drops which are so strong they are known to cause skin and muscle death as well as killing infection.
If you had a blood test I assume that apart from the swollen lymph node near your ear, you have other symptoms too. I am sorry to say but HIV cannot be ruled out completely. Only a test for HIV can help confirm for sure whether you have contacted the virus or not. However that is not the only possibility. Certain cancers or lymphomas too could be the cause. Though, these would result in abnormal white cell count too. What did your doctor say on follow up?
Ok, so I've been putting up with on again, off again itching for months on my labia, near my vaginal opening. Never "diagnosed" with HPV but I did get rid of a suspected wart this past year. Can you have a bacterial infection without discharge? It drives me CRAZY sometimes, the only thing that calms it is gold bond ointment, which is minty and refreshing but I'd like no itch. No "rash" that I can see, unless I give in and scratch.
Blocked sebaceous glands, swollen hair follicles and excessive testosterone production will cause such cysts. Generally no treatment is required but they become painful then it means they are infected,Then surgical excision by traditional wide excision, minimal excision, and punch biopsy excision may be required. Other possibility is of swollen lymph node. Lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes) is usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection along with other numerous causes.
