Common Questions and Answers about Swollen eyelid unilateral

swollen

Avatar n tn HI, Each morning I wake up and my eyes appear identical. Within an hour, more and more of the left eyelid is showing and it stays this way all day. Not sure if it's swollen or ptosis. Looking back at pictures, it has been this way for about 5 years but now is starting to bother me. I've had a CT on sinuses and tests for thyroid issues. Next step is an MRI. Any idea what causes this? I am so self conscious and embarrassed by this.
Avatar n tn For almost 3 yrs now, I have had a swollen upper left eyelid. It occasionally is accompanied by dull deep pain in my eye and sinus/septum also. For the last 2 yrs I have seen a variety of opthamologists, neuro-opthamologists, etc. Recent (less than 1 yr) MRI of orbit and brain was normal. Clinical exams have all been normal. However, every MD does acknowledge that there is swelling there, they just dont know why.
Avatar f tn Almost 3 weeks now I have done LASIK in both my eyes and I am still suffering from a persistent unilateral upper eyelid edema. Its swell is diffused and it is totally painless... It's not even red... I can feel it's thickened and I can feel the heaviness. Artificial tears and cold compressions were not of any help. Is there a treatment for this? I am very frustrated... because I know a chronic upper eyelid edema can lead to ptosis... please help me.
Avatar m tn Dr Hagan, 50 days ago i developed a small bump in my right superior eyelid. Painless and very firm. Almost 100% sure that its a chalazion. 3 weeks later, right next to this possible chalazion, my eyelid became red, itchy, with a little pain, like if i had something in my eye. Some light sensitivity and crusting. I also noticed that my eyelashes had something very similar to dandruff. Possible Anterior Blepharitis. Today, the bump and the redness remains, unchanged.
Avatar f tn I've been having difficulty with unilateral left eye swelling. It's intermittent and mild but discouraging because it creates bouts of lacrimal gland pain and inflammation. I know it's probably not a good diagnosis because of orbital pseudotumor and I'm trying to determine if the slight injury I had to the eyelid and eyebrow region created this problem. This occured several years ago. I bent down into a vacumn hose and jabbed it.
Avatar f tn Hi, did your doctor specify the diagnosis as swollen diaphragm or unilateral diaphragm paralysis? because with trauma you're most likely to have unilateral diaphragm paralysis. According to studies done, unilateral diaphragm paralysis (UDP) decreases pO(2) substantially and breathing capacity by more than 1/3, but spontaneous recovery is possible and this occurs more commonly in children.
Avatar f tn If it's neurological there shouldn't be any actual swelling of the eyelid involved, hmmm if the eyelid is swollen then it 'could' make the eyelid just look like it's drooping down, have you seen your GP about it yet? As aspen mentioned it could be an infection or even a reaction bug bite on the eyelid, if it's been a few days and it's still swollen it'd be worth getting your GP to check it out. Hope that helps....
1440587 tn?1284040516 Starting two days ago my right eyelid was hurting a a little swollen. It has gotten more painful and much more swollen since then. If I flip my eyelid up it is very very red and it looked almost like a little red bump underneath - that was yesterday. Today it is so swollen I can't even flip the eyelid up. I called the eye dr and he can't fit me in today. What could it be? What should I do? I took benadryl last night thinking it may be an allergy but it didnt help at all.
Avatar n tn Im just confused because although I wake up with a swollen eyelid there is no pain and no itching. Would an allergic reaction to something cause upper eyelid swelling?
Avatar m tn Approximately 5 days after the exposure I felt itchiness in my left eye, the next day my eye was slightly red then by the following day my left eye was very red and had swollen eyelid. I went to the doctor who prescribed tobramycin and started taking this thinking it may be bacterial in nature but it did not seem to help. I also started noticing and itching in my urethra shortly after the eye became red and swollen.
Avatar m tn I just recovered from a bout of unilateral bacterial conjunctivitis about 2 months ago. Felt irritation and pain in the same eye about 15 days ago which was diagnosed as dry eye and I was prescribed artificial tears(refresh) and the pain went away in a day or two. Since the past two days the problem seems to have flared up and today I woke up not being able to open the eye without feeling pain.
Avatar m tn I've had 4 operations in the last 9 months for retinal detachment. After the first 3, my eye would always recover properly. The last operation which was done December 5th 2008, went well according to my doctor. I went to Africa for a little over a month to travel with family in January. I did everything the doctor told me, putting my eye drops in and not touching the eye as it healed. Now it's June, and for the past 3 months the upper eyelid on the affected eye has been swollen.
Avatar f tn Hello about 3 days ago my bottom eyelid was tender to touch or put eyeliner on,it was not discolored or puffy/ yesterday my btm eyelid under eyelashes was swollen looked like fluid was trapped/Wednesday am my bottom eyelid was almost swollen shut &very sore no discoloration or krusties / i have a little white pimple like spot on the inside middle part of bottom eyelid ..... what is it????
Avatar f tn I often wake up with a large, swollen eyelid. This has happened for over a month now. It alternates between both the left and right eye, top or bottom eyelid, and sometimes even both. There is no pain, and the swelling is normally reduced after using a cold compress... I have not noticed any patterns as to when the swelling occurs, and went weeks without makeup to see if that would help (if it was an allergic reaction.) Nothing seems to be effective, what could be the problem?
1618305 tn?1298758246 My left eyelid has been swollen for three days, there is no pain, no bump or itching, but i do feel slight pressure on my eye. It is swollen evenly through and very noticable compared to my other eye, i have tried warm compresses and iceing my eye but nothing has worked. It has not gotten worst but the swelling is still there and really worrying me. I do not have insurance so i can't see a doctor. How long is this going to last and what should i do?
Avatar f tn Over the last six months i am having recurrent swollen eyelid, only one eye at a time but can be either eye, usually lasts 1 or 2 days, only upper eyelid, no pain, itchyness, blurry vision or bloodshot eyes. Had reoccured every 2-3 wks, have had 9wks now when it hasn't happened, and yesterday it reoccurred. GP has tested for thyroid problems, all clear. I have psoriatic arthrits, my consultant says its not related, can you help?

Avatar f tn About three to four days ago my eye began to feel like I had been punched in the face on the left side. I woke up the next morning to find a swollen eyelid, and a few lumps about the size of a piece of rice to a pin head. I gave it a day then went to the after hours where they gave me drops. Its since been two days and it gets more swollen everyday, today being swollen shut. The outside is purple and red and the inside is bright red and the lumps are growing.
Avatar f tn If your eyelid problem is due to inflammation or infection you will need to see an ophthalmologist for treatment. If it is due to the effects of age then you will need to see a plastic surgeon or oculoplastic surgeon.
Avatar f tn I have swollen eyelids that come and go, almost like hives, but rarely itch. Can be one or several. On omnicef for sinus infection, but doctor doesn't think this is causing it. Before omincef had a sulfer type med that caused swelling in joints, sick stomach, rash, fever. Have been on Omicef 5 days. Started having strange raised bumps for three days that come and go. Will say that two weeks ago had actual hives around eyes and think it was caused from eye cream.
Avatar f tn It seemed that just the inner part (toward the nose) of the eyelid was red and swollen but the skin above my eyelid has also drooped over my lid. The redness is gone and although my eye still feels like something is not quite right and the lid is a little more dry than normal, it looks all better except for that drooping skin. Is that due to swelling? Will it get better? I am only 24, so I don't think that skin should be drooping already (& on just one eye).
