Swollen eyelid shingles

Common Questions and Answers about Swollen eyelid shingles

swollen

Although I have no visable lesions on my face, today my left eye lid is drooping and It feels heavy as if it is swollen. Is it possible the shingles are now under my eye lid? The asymetry to my face (eyes) is very noticible- what are your recommendations and will this resolve allowing my eye lid to return to proper proportion?
You might check the archives. I wrote all about how I got rid of mine for good a few months ago. After you finished the doctors Rx you will still have them and you can get Chinese herbs for viruses. The one I used was VSP by Nature's Sunshine. Worked great. My leisons were on my back. I don't think you can use the same ointment on your face (near your eyes) that I used on my back.
On the 21st I woke up to severe pain and a few more tiny blisters on my top lip and additionally, blisters on the right side of my nose, right cheek and under my right eye, on my lower right eyelid, upper right eyelid and a severe splitting headache only on the right side of my head. I called my general practitioner and she had me come in. Based on her viewing on the lesions, she was fixed on it being Herpes 1. She ordered a blood test and prescribed Valtrex.
I went to a local dermatologist who said I had a spider bite. It is on my eyelid and the outer area. Red, swollen, itchy. He gave me an antibiotic which after 5 days there is no change. My question is could it be shingles? I have put tea tree oil on it and some of the swelling has gone down, but it is extremely painful and feels like something is constantly "crawling" around the eye area. Help!!
Finally got in to see my Neuro who thinks the two are related but wants a brain MRI. 1) How might dizziness be related to Shingles if Shingles rash not in or around the ear? (lymph nodes under ear & parotids were swollen) Not vertigo BTW but odd feeling of dizziness when turn head or move eyes sideways. 2) My eye slightly droops and docs disagree on Bell's Palsy. Comments? Many thanks for your time doctors ...
The rash is from my forehead over my right eyebrow into my head but luckily no blisters below my eyebrow. My eyelid has been gradually becoming more swollen and so it is drooping very badly where I am having trouble with my vision and it feels as though something is irritating the eye surface. I am having alot of pain around the eye and also my ear.
Additionally blisters on the right side of my nose, right cheek and under my right eye, on my upper/lower right eyelid, a severe splitting headache only on the right side of my head and swollen lymph nodes on the right side of my neck. I saw my regular doctor. She was fixed on it being Herpes 1. She ordered a blood test and prescribed Valtrex. The same day my ophthalmologist prescribed Doxycyclin. The same day, my girlfriend went and had a blood test for Herpes. She turned up with a negative.
Is it possible to be diagnosed with shingles without having an external rash? The pain is on my left side only in a band near my waist line. The pain is horrific - even to the touch. All symptoms seem to be consistent with shingles but after 2 weeks of this, there is no rash. Narcotics, vicodin and darvocet have helped some but not completely.
so i went to the doctor for a swollen eyelid...doc says i have localized herpes zoster...prescribes me zovirax...started to heal right away ...at this point not to worried, however a day later i notice that various parts of my inner thighs, foot, finger.... have pimple like blister that itch....i go back to the doctor....he says something under his breath and prescribes ELocon for these things that look like sores.... im so paranoid went to get test for STD.. and waiting for the results....
Prescribed clindamycin and metronidazole, b.i.d., 7 days. 11/11 swollen neck glands, right eyelid swelling and watering 11/12 right eyelid more swollen, red, watery, itching, small itchy bumps start to erupt on back, shoulders, arms, thighs, more on right side of body 11/13 took Benedryl, eye swelling reduced, body rash worse. Started feeling like I was getting an itchy yeast infection. Found bilateral swollen Bartholin's glands when inserting Monostat. Went to Patient First.
I admit it is totally my fault I have this problem. The eyelid and area above have been red and swollen for four days. I would have thought the redness and swelling would be gone by now, but it is still there. Is there anything I can do to reduce the swelling and get rid of the redness? Thank you.
For several days I have had pain in the lower right eyelid. Yesterday I noticed about three small red spots in the eyelid and then woke up today with some of them larger and the lower part of my eye and face very swollen. It is painful and beginning to bother my vision. I don't think its a sty and i don't wear contacts or glasses. I have never had this problem before.
-Skin colored, painless bumps under the skin on my face which get irritated/infected and turn into full-blown sores (everywhere except for my nose, with different degrees of severity, worst being cheeks) -Started with itchy patch just under the side of my jaw line (that I distinctly remember scratching at shortly before full-blown spread of rash) -Area around bump and bump itself gets reddened and swollen, pustule surfaces (ofcourse I pick) --> spreads?
Approximately 4 months ago I was experiencing pain on my abdomen--right side only and exactly to the midline front and back. I also had swollen inguinal glands, etc. The skin was very sensitive to the touch, but I never got any rash or lesions. Nevertheless, I was diagnosed with zoster and put on the week-long course of Valtrex. It went away rather quickly. Approximately two months later, I woke up with an itch on the center of my left eyelid.
it seems like one obstacle after another continue to pop up in my life. this is causing me to get shingles, have an unknown issue with my left eyelid causing it to be sore and swollen, and i puke almost every morning. sometimes i also spit up bubbly mucus as i burp. what is going on with me? is it all due to my bi polar? do i need to get back on my meds?
During this time he also treated me with an oral anti-viral . He said not to freak out because it was the same one give for shingles but that I DID NOT HAVE SHINGLES. Needless to say I was relieved to have regained my eyesight and assumed that it was done. Well about a week after stopping the eyedrops the HALOS came back at night, but this time my vision was not so effected and I had no light sensitivity etc.. I also could still read line 9 for the most part.
upper lid particularly swollen, and swollen underneath, too (this morning the inner corner of both looked so full of fluid I could pop it with a pin), and hurting, burning. Sometimes sore as well; sometimes sharp pain if look down or to the side quickly. Sometimes when I bend over I get a sharp wave of pain along the left side of my head and along eyebrow and inner and outer corners of eye.
I recovered from the sore throat, swollen glands, etc. But, was still very tired for a while. I had just left for a year long study abroad program in London England. I didn't wait the recommended 3 months and drank a lot (like most of the Brits do)...I found a steady gf (unprotected sex) and was tested in November '05 to make sure everything was OK. Everything was fine and negative. Then we broke up at Christmas.
For the past 10 days or so I have had a relentless itchiness on the upper right quadrant of my face. It's worst at the hairline and my eye socket and eyelid. It's driving me beyond crazy. Last night it woke me up repeatedly. Scratching gives only momentary relief. My dermatologist says it's not dermatological. It is not red nor swollen, no rash. Even still, I stopped all topical skin care products and makeup with the exception of sunblock when I go out. No improvement. I tried topical Benadryl.
Take in some pictures, full face of you taken 4-5 years ago to document that this is new. The problem could be a droopy eyelid (ptosis) or a bulging eye (exophthalmos). Find and eye MD at www.aao.
-First-off, I started using EYELID WIPES every morning and evening to get rid of any bacteria that was lingering on my lids (sometimes it hurt to use these because my skin was either red and swollen or scaly and itchy but I still used the eyelid wipes). Any brand seemed to work for me, even the generic from CVS, RiteAid, etc. but there are also specific brands I tried like Sunmark Eyelid Wipes and Systane Lid Wipes.
problem -- mayb esomething pressing on a nerve, but offered no ideas as to what. He also thought I could've had shingles with no outward sign of skin eruptions because I was fighting the virus and it never made it out to the nerve endings. But that doesn't explain why I still have the pain 4 months later (for you, 5 years later!) Nice try. have you found anything that helps the pain? Do you experience it all the time? Have you ever had a back problems/pain?
The Acyclovir dose was 5x400mg daily but I am now on a dose of 2x daily. I have been advised to taper off the pred forte drops and should be off of these soon. I continue to have mild symptoms in both eyes intermittently. Basically things feel funny from time to time. Sometimes there is a mild burning sensation, a feeling that something is stuck in the eye, or a little tearing.
It sounds like the shingles that I had over the summer months. I have been under the highest amount of stress I've ever had. The shingles broke out and the symptoms are just what you're describing. Since it's a virus it makes sense from those of you who have speculated about a virus. I have had it in the back of my upper legs before but it was short lived. I think my body finally said enough is enough!! I went to an acupuncturist and took herbs he prescribed.
Referred to neurologist and by time of my appointment was having tingling in legs, scalp and upper eyelid, along with myoclonic jerking of legs and hands - intermitently. Neuro exam normal and diagnosis of "myoclonus" given.... the tingling and numbness was "undiagnosed". Repeat EMG of arm and leg - still normal.
The pain continued, not constant, and spread to the scalp. On the 16th I began to break out with Shingles....a line following my eyebrow, with a few lesions on my forehead, and possibly in my scalp. I immediately saw my doctors again. Started on prednisone for 10 days and Valtrex 3 times a day for 1 wk. My lesions remained "mild" in number, and scabbing was not horrid. On the 18th my eyelid and face below my eye were so swollen, I had difficulty keeping my open...
We are all a member of this awful red swollen eyelid club I guess with no real answers to our problem. Except for maybe one thing that I found in almost all body, face and hand creams, and makeup and even hair conditioner that maybe our problem. It is called methylparaben, and it is and additive that is prevalent in most of our external products we all use daily. It has been banned in Europe and Canada but not in our own beloved USA! Shockig to say the least.
My motor nerves still seem to be working ok although, as the partial numbness moved into my hands, my ring and little fingers feel like they are swollen (as my lips frequently do) and it seems like they just don't want to work quite right. Although better, my stamina may be only 50 to 75% of what it was before this started. Next week I am scheduled to have a lumbar puncture.
//www.medicinenet.com/shingles/article.htm In short, shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox and lives in the nervous system. It remains dormant in most people and many that get it, usually do at an older age (60+) because the immune system weakens as we age but it can happen to anyone, at any age. Iā€™m 33 (male), 5ā€™9, 147lbs. Iā€™m pretty active and consider myself healthy with a strong immune. I get sick about once a year ā€“ seasonal cold/flu and rarely get any headaches.
