Swollen eye differential diagnosis

Common Questions and Answers about Swollen eye differential diagnosis

swollen

Avatar m tn It is under the skin and not visible to the naked eye however it can be felt. I was told by the doctor this was a swollen lymph node and not to worry. Along with this I have been getting chronic head pressure and a slight tight facial pain on the left side of my face. This comes and goes. The doctors have given me beta blockers and said I have silent migraines. They help a little but not a lot. Has anyone ever felt similar to this?
Avatar m tn Is there a differential diagnosis for genital herpes that someone can do at home? Just for those cases where it's clearly not obviously herpes, with classic oozing sores, prodromes, etc. For example, I have a patch of skin about the size of my thumb that's red and sore, on the shaft near the glans. Been there a week. I thought it was poison ivy due to the way it felt (patchy, itchy mild bumps in a line, irritated, slight oozing from the skin), but it wasn't that bad.
Avatar f tn I’m wondering if I might have that instead of MS. I scheduled an appt with my neuro for early April to discuss a differential diagnosis with him. It’s on the list for MS mimics. Several reasons why I’m kind of wondering if it is: About 2005 I started going to my doctor for shortness of breath. She thought it might be asthma & gave me albuterol. Since a little after that (about 2006?
Avatar f tn My husband went to our GP a month ago with a swollen red eye and tremendous eye pain and the doctor said he had conjunctivitis. After a three day application of an antibiotic, his eye was no better. The GP referred him to an eye doctor who gave him another round of eye drops. A week later the pain was so bad that my husband had to take hydrocodone and still had no relief....the eye doctor gave him a 3rd antibiotic to apply for a week and the eye still did not improve.
Avatar m tn Men who have unprotected sex with men are most likely to contract syphilis in this day and age, however, this syphilis is only one possibility. Migrane headache is another, as well as fibromyalgia, and neurological disorders. Please let your doctors do their differential diagnosis -- don't jump to conclusions. Often fear of the unknown exacerbates these symptoms.
Avatar f tn This is why radiologists usually give a differential diagnosis. When the diagnosis is in doubt, lumbar puncture (LP; or spinal tap) to study the CSF is helpful. I would recommend that you have an LP performed. You should have a demyelinating workup, but also send for cytology, syphilis, and herpes simplex. Also, if the MRI was not performed with vessel imaging (i.e., MRA), you should have your vessels evaluated if vasculitis is in the differential.
Avatar f tn Also the FLAIR technique adds little to the differential diagnosis. The calculation of magnetisation transfer ratio (MT ratio) may be useful to better characterise some entities, such as vasculitis, from multiple sclerosis. Differential diagnosis of multiple sclerosis: contribution of magnetic resonance techniques.
Avatar f tn New focal FLAIR hyperintensity within right corona radiata without evidence of restricted diffusion. Differential includes Lyme Disease, vasculitis or demyelinating process such as mulitple sclerosis. Small vessel ischemic disease is also in the differential but is considered less likely. Clinical correlation is recommended. When I saw my GP I had developed a rash across my midsection, then I developed a purplish mark above my eye.
Avatar m tn My clinical impression is of Henoch- Schonlenn purpura with the abdominal features, arthropathy, rash, urinary symptoms (RBC's in urine analysis?). If so should settle without much problem.Connective tissue disorders are differential diagnosis but unlikely. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn ive been having alot of pressure in my head there like quick sharp pains and sometimes above my eye brows has alot of pressure. my throat and tonsels are quite swollen and ive also been having really bad anxiety, and constant fast heart rate.

Avatar f tn Dear Brooke_Nick, I would recommend that he seek immediate care! As you do not mention his age nor medical history the differential diagnosis includes things like stroke or multiple sclerosis. Dr. Feldman Sandy T. Feldman, M.D., M.S.
Avatar m tn He normally will have a little eye redness after being groomed but when my husband brought him him I was shocked. The whole membrane around his eye was red and swollen. I posted a picture on facwbook and I have a friend who is a groomer and use to work for a vet and said this looked like it came from being choked by the harness. It is not cherry eye since that is in the corner of the eye. Could this have come from being choked?
Avatar n tn But the most common cause of swollen lymph nodes is infection. Immune or autoimmune disorders that can cause swollen lymph nodes include rheumatoid arthritis and HIV. Cancers that can cause swollen glands include leukemia, Hodgkin's disease, or non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Blood tests including liver function tests, kidney function tests, and CBC with differential lymph node biopsy as well as chest x-ray and liver-spleen scan may be done for further evaluation.
Avatar f tn I worn contacts sometimes, but when my vision got bad again I stopped using contacts. Since this summer, I noticed my left eye lid have been swollen. I have been told by my second doctor that that was because of allergies. She prescribed me anti-allergy drops but it didn't help. She also advised me warm presses, and it didn't help. However, now I switched back to the first doctor, she said that the swollen eye was due to the damage on my cornea.
Avatar f tn For the last week my eyes have been swollen both top and bottom when i wake up, but through out the day it goes down a bit and then occurs again when i wake up in the morning. i was wondering what could be going on ?
Avatar n tn I have no history of headaches or migraines or sinus problems, but for the last 2 months or so I have MAJOR excruciating morning 'headaches. The left side of my nose closes, left eye feels swollen, and pain in the side of my head radiating to neck, teeth, everything. Not a major nose bleed, but always blood when I blow on these mornings. I have taken 2 rounds of powerful antibiotics with no change. I've tried to research cluster headaches, brain tumor...
Avatar m tn I agree with Caregiver. Eye pain should be taken seriously. The pain in the eye can be due to ocular or ophthalmic migraine, glaucoma, stye, sinusitis, eye infections, eye strain as is seen in refractive errors (if you cannot see properly and need spectacles). In your case it could be migraine or a refractive error. Please consult an eye specialist. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted.
