Hi Everyone, I've been experiencing swollen ankles, my left one more swollen than my right one, even if I don't stand for a long time. They're even swollen after being in bed all night. I'm athletic, fit and not overweight. I have two questions: 1) is the edema a sign that HCV is progressing? and 2) can liver ultrasounds reveal mild fibrosis? My stats: 53, female, geno 1 VL 11 million infected 25 years/blood transf & frequently symptomatic (fever, swollen glands, fatigue, weak, etc.
For the past three days, I have noticed that my ankles and feet, wrists and top of hands swelling considerably. On my feet and ankles the swelling is the worst. I can feel the skin tightening, and my ankles dissappear--they're still there...just buried under puffiness. I am a large but not terribly overweight person, just tall and Nordic (lol). I have seen some commentary about edema, kidney issues, and heart issues associated with this kind of swelling (God forbid it's any of those).
I NOTICED MY HANDS WERE ALSO RED AND SWOLLEN/PUFFY AND I ALSO FELT SWOLLEN ALL OVER MY BODY. MY SKIN FELT TIGHT TOO...
Over the year I've been getting these little red dots all on my feet and ankles. They don't itch and there is no pain. I've noticed today that I'm starting to get them on my hands and wrists. They are all about the size of a pinhead and raised. At first I thought they might be moles, but now I seem to be getting more of them.
My boyfriend and I went to Rehoboth Beach, DE last weekend and he has an itchy rash on his waist, ankles and thighs. I have red bumps on my ankles and knees. Some of my bumps are raised and seem to be filled with liquid. He went to the doctor but could not get a diagonosis because doctor sen't sure what it was and prescribed a cortizone cream and antihistimine. Mine seem to be going away. We are thinking his could be scabies and are afraid to sleep together as it could be contagious.
My mom who is 86 has had swollen, itchy, red ankles and calves for a couple of months. At Emergency, they told her it was an infection and gave antibiotics. When that didn't work, she went back and this time they told her it was a reaction to her blood pressure medication and to go see her physician. She has refused to see her doctor and her legs are getting worse. My brothers and I are worried sick. She won't go for help and we are so worried about her but we cannot help her.
I am assuming that you are not a young person. I am a podiatrist, but of course, cannot properly diagnose without examining a patient. However, one possibility is that the veins in the legs are "bad." The resulting excess swelling can cause the skin to become red or brownish, and may produce a rash. You also should consult with your primary care doctor just to make sure there is no underlying serious problem, such as heart disease or blood clots.
My feet are the worst. Swollen painful ankles covered in these red splotches. I don't know what to do. And I leave for vacation on Saturday???
I've been having swollen feet&ankles lately. My mom, who had been seeing me every day, noticed it first. Silly me, I thought it was just that I was putting on weight since I was off of treatment&eating more. On Easter morning, my feet, ankles, lower legs, even my toes were super swollen, so I noticed it. So, we ended up going to the ER. (What a big waste of time that was!). Their final diagnosis, 'bilateral pedal edema'.
My symptoms are swollen feet, knees with tight skin. Red blotches and skin cracking. Weak ankles. Legs swollen. Heat coming off joints. Hips burning. Pain in all joints. Been to several specialist and all I know is that I don't have RA, Lupus or anything else there is a blood test for. My life has come to a stop.
Hi, This could be Stasis dermatitis, an inflammation of the skin that is caused by the swollen ankles. Developing in the lower legs, this common eczema occurs when circulation becomes sluggish. Poor blood flow causes fluids to build up, and the legs swell. Over time, this build up of fluids affects the skin, causing a rash that usually itches, painful sores, as well as thinning and discolored skin.
it sounds a little like eczema a common rash that occurs cause dry, chapped, bumpy areas around the elbows and knees or more serious cases of red, scaly, and swollen skin all over the body.
His ankles and feet have been really swollen. Two days ago he showed me his feet and I noticed he had several large red swollen welts on the soles of both feet which are painful to the touch. My first thought was that it was some sore of allergic reaction so I have give him two does of Benydryl. This has not helped much with the pain and the welts are still there. I also applied a topical gel call Synovium which is made specifically for foot pain. He does get some temporary relief with that.
My toes are red at ends, kind of soft and a bit swollen. very red with a little pinch. The skin beneath in a couple spots is a little crusty. Toes do not hurt, but at first were itchy inside, not something that would make one want to scratch. My feet get so hot at night that I can't stand covers. There are no blisters between toes. What can this be?
very swollen hands and feet and lots of bumps on my skin (mostly red). I had to take pills for a week afterwards or the bumps would come back. The doctor said it looked like an allergic reaction but all allergy tests came back negative. Over the past few years, my hands have become a bit swollen occasionally, maybe once every 4 months, and usually goes away after a few hours.
I've tried the different lotions thinking maybe avoid fragrance, but no change. My ankles also itch but they are just extremely swollen thankfully no bumps there. Let me know if you find a solution! I'll be sure to do the same.
However, since then BOTH of my feet and ankles have been swollen most all of the time (sometimes severely). The weird part is that I've noticed that whenever I'm on antibiotics for any unrelated illness, my feet and ankles do not swell. I've mentioned this to several doctors who all say that it can't have anything to do with it. But, I just think it is very odd that it never fails. Has anyone else ever noticed this?
Now all day Saturday my abdomen was so swollen even my neighbor could tell. Now today its not swollen anymore but now I've noticed (sorry about this) a black stool. I've read (somewhere) black is bad, but can't remember how bad. Sorry about the gory details! I really appreciate any help with this!
More recently, about three weeks ago, my feet and ankles turned red and became swollen, but the red seems to be myriad red dots, small as pin pricks. A cluster of red dots formed a little above my left ankle on the inside of the leg, and it felt like there was something hard and flat under the skin. After a few days the cluster spread out to form a ring of pin pricks and the center skin turned slightly yellowish, taking on a leathery feel.
Following are my symptoms that have arose since that time.

The tops of my feet are raised up swollen and my ankles and calves are swollen severely. Needless to say they hurt like crazy. I became very worried about the swelling as everyone was telling me there were serious reasons feet and legs can swell, so I finally decided to go to the ER and find out what was going on.
The second day my foot is still sensictive to touch, very swollen, looks like I have a bright red sock on, it's slightly warm to the touch. Its not as painful to walk after the first 24 hours. We've monitored my foods and found no comon that causes it. Many of the symptoms are the same as gout, but my blood tests come up negitive for gout. I have Kaiser health care insurance. They have sent me to at least 9 different doctors and specialist and none of them know what is causing this.
This looks more like poison ivy (I think) but is just an itchy red rash. My hand is VERY swollen from this. I have noticed that a hot bath, nerves, doing the dishes, etc seem to make it act up. I also have the same thing that is on the PALM of my hand on both of my feet. I am in a profession that requires alot of meeting people, and I avoid that at all possible cost as it is very uncomfortable shaking hands with someone.
