Swollen ankles from heat

Common Questions and Answers about Swollen ankles from heat

swollen

I was a waitress when I was pregnant with my son, and was constantly swollen from the knee down. PLUS I ended up having to quit at 25 weeks because I was having a lot of braxton hicks contractions, and I had a jerk for a assistant manager, that's a whole other story. BUT at least make sure you're drinking enough water!
A week ago today my wife noticed that both my ankles were swollen. I thought nothing of it and went to work the next day assuming they would just go away. While at work I noticed that my ankles were even more swollen that the previous day. I showed co-workers my ankles and they were all concerned and suggested that I go to the ER after work. I went to the ER and was admitted to the hospital. Bloodwork showed normal kidney and liver function.
Swollen feet, ankles, and legs are totally normal for the stage of pregnancy you're in. I was so swollen with my first that I was swollen from my knees down!! It was horrible LOL.
I also noticed both of my ankles (around the bone) was a little swollen when I got home. Today they are not as bad. I was wondering if swollen joints can be a symptom of lyme..I haven't heard much about it. I was also a little dizzy and slightly "out of it" that night. I must have walked a good 5 miles and my calfs were tight when I woke up this morning. I got a little sunburn on my legs and those areas tingled more than usual. Strange stuff!
Did you ever figure out what the issue is? I also have swollen ankles, feet, and lower legs too. My doctor is sending me to neurology. It's so bad sometimes I can't walk well and I pull muscles/tendons. It can also be very painful. I don't have the red splotches or numb spots that you describe. Like you, I watch my sodium, don't sit or stand for too long, and have had all the blood tests I should. I don't have lupus, fibromyalgia, lyme disease or any other of a host of things.
Medhelp people got me a new password, so am back in my old incarnation, for better or worse... Swollen ankles neurological? Wow, never heard that. My feet have swollen such that I can't fit into my shoes any more, all at the same time as the eye problem and hand problem. The swelling is on the instep and the outer ankles, definitely is fluid. Thought I'd maybe put on weight, but I've actually lost a stone in weight in the last month. Next time I see the doctor I'll show them my feet.
I hope someone can help me. I have suffered with swollen ankles, legs and feet since my first pregnancy over 10 years ago. It was so bad towards the end of each pregnancy that I could not wear shoes at all...literally barefoot and pregnant - haha a great look :/ Got on the merry-go-round of thyroid issues after my second child was born, due to multi-nodular goitre, hypo, hyper, not medicated at the beginning because it always seemed to right itself, even though it fluctuated a lot.
By Monday, I started having a side effect of swollen feet and ankles. I first thought it was from the heat and being on my feet a lot on Monday. The swelling hasn't gone down yet, and it's Thursday night.
I have a problem with heat, but with the winter approaching, I am doing MUCH better. Unless somebody turns the heat up! I do not seem to be hot in general, except to the extent that a big girl would get, lol! I like the hot broads; I need all the help I can get to sound sexy, Heather =) Due to a hyster several years ago, I am not in menopause. My heat issues seem confined to summer months and hot rooms.
It comes and goes anywhere from 2 times a day to every 2-3 min. It has no heat to the touch and no sign of discoloration. I am going to ask my doctor about it on Monday. This is crazy so many people are having the same symptoms. Hope someone gets a straight answer.
Some medications can cause fluid retention. Are your ankles/legs also swollen? One side more than the other? Are you standing more than usual? Here are several instances that can cause swelling in the feet: cardiac problems, incompetant valves of the veins(which prevent fluid from leaving the leg), and lymphatic blockage. I would get this examined to make sure you don't have any underlying problems stated above. In the meantime, elevate your feet and see if the swelling decreases.
I just got back from Washington DC a few days ago. We walked and walked miles over the weekend. I had on very good shoes....The last day (Monday), the area between the ankles, on the back of the leg, above the heal, on my left foot, started hurting - like it had a cramp. I put heat on it when I got home and that helped. But, by the next evening, my ankle was swollen and hurt. It is now Wednesday, and it is still swollen. I have used ice and Advil. HELP! What happened?
Like most Americans, can not afford insurance at this point in my life. Just recently my feet, legs, and ankles have started to swell and do not seem to go down at night. I am worried about what I can do to ease the pain, and make the swelling go down.
Hi, I've had very swollen ankles and a very fast heart rate (125-135) for about 2 weeks now. I'm rather concerned about this. I can feel my heart beating quite a bit of the time. This can be alarming. I also sometimes have difficulty breathing, but I do have asthma. I recently spent 10 days in the hospital for asthmatic/bronchitis. While I was there the doctors were concerned about my heart, because of these symptoms. They did an EKG, but I guess it was fine.
Hi I have several things but first came the fluid running out of my legs through pores and swollen ankles. Then from the places where the fluid leaked out sores finally just about healed up over months. Excessive dry skin in front of shins and purple and extremely cold. Along with it came incontinence which has worsened over 1.5 yrs. Now when i stand I get shakes and muscle weakness along with shooting pains intermittently mostly in legs at diffeerent spots, sometimes feet or toes, or knees.
i have suffered swollen ankles for about 8 months, i was told it was due to the heat. but it is now mid winter and not warm at all. im 25, slim and heathy. i eat quite well and exercise alot. lately ive been expirencing numbness in my fingers. not sure if that would be related. doctors checked for liver and hart problems with a blood test and nothing came up. ive just put up with it as its not painful but it is uncomfortable. sometimes it reaches my knees & i find it difficult to walk.
My feet & ankles are swollen, hot and reddish color. I have high blood pressure, lupus, asthma, back problems, diabetic, fibromyalgia, and Padgett disease, an enlarged heart, and enlarged thymus gland. I've been waking up in the middle of the night with leg cramps, tremors, shortness of breath and my hair & night gown soaked from sweat. Please advise what could be happening? My doctor sent me to the hospital. They did blood test, x rays, cat scan with injected dye, Doppler tests.
Not for sure what this is. About a week ago I got small bump like , red, itchy spots on both lower legs...on my ankles up about 10" onto my calves. I thought at first fleas in the house maybe....but after putting out a flea trap, nothing. In fact there are so many, it can't be bugs...in less it is some type of mite or something. I sit at the computer alot at night...my wife does some, but nothing on her. A few weeks ago, I did a little money detecting...
I have swollen ankles, feet turning purple with heat coming through my socks. It is unbearable. I was at the ER last night and they precribed water pills, predisone, and gave me a needle in my back for the inflammation. I was realesed they said, it was a flare up from my LUPUS> I don't bleive it. The pain is unbearable, I can not walk now. Could anyone help to find out what this is.
My cardiologist always asks me if my ankles get swollen ("No just my head, doc") when looking for signs of heart disease. That pressure feeling behind your rib cage should certainly be checked out right away by your internist or cardio if you have one. Hopefully it's something as simple as indigestion but you really do want to rule out the heart, pronto. When was the last time you had a cardiac stress test, other than going through the wonderful treatment experience?
When I was hypo, my ankles and feet looked like I was about 10 1/2 months pregnant! My hands swelled, also, but not as much. Are you on thyroid meds? Do you have your latest free T3, free T4 and TSH results? If you do, please post them along with the reference ranges your lab uses, and members can help you figure out why this symptom hasn't gone away.
There are posts about this all over the net. I've been suffering from it for the last 6 weeks. ankles and intenst itch everywhere during the night. It's not scabies because my dogs don't have it. It's not bed bugs because they're visible to the naked eye. I also have it in the webs between my fingers. It has been passing between my brothers and my father and myself with no apparent lengthy connection. Just quick visits. It also seems to come from the couch for all four of us.
My feet and ankles are swollen and putting them into cold water only helps for a short amount of time... Spritzing water towards the fan and letting it to blow it back on you is a little help. What really works for me is getting my hair wet and while it's drying it keeps you somewhat cooler.
the head rushing ,red face is pretty normal while on verapamil .. since its been hot weather here - iv been getting swollen ankles again - and shortness of breath . its mild. and it stops when im in a air conditioned room 60s 50s deg. so im sure its the verapamil as off the drug -I dont have these symptoms at all. just h.b.p ! the heat plays a part with this medication im sure of it .
I get the heat sensation at the back of my thigh from time to time. It was wierdest when I was swimming in a cold pool (I had goose bumps) but this hot sensation on my thigh! I am sat a desk for periods of time at work though and positioning seems to be the key here.
(Though new imaging testing would be helpful. It is possible that over the years you've gone from a swollen disk to a herniated one.) There are other ways to treat sciatica than one type of injection. I think a pain clinic would best help with that. Either that or a neurosurgeon. It's possible you have some type of autoimmune disease going on. All the joint pain you have could be part of that.
Today they took blood to check for cryoglobulinemia. Had crazy swollen ankles and red rash. It's now gone, of course by the time I get to see a dr. But he is checking! I just wonder how we can trust the pharmacy to make sure the drugs are kept cool. I got my shipments once a month coming about 6-8hours away.
