Did you ever figure out what the issue is? I also have swollen ankles, feet, and lower legs too. My doctor is sending me to neurology. It's so bad sometimes I can't walk well and I pull muscles/tendons. It can also be very painful. I don't have the red splotches or numb spots that you describe. Like you, I watch my sodium, don't sit or stand for too long, and have had all the blood tests I should.
It can also be due to pinched nerve or due to diabetic neuropathy. If you are a female and on birth control pills, then this could be due to the side effect of pills as they can also cause deep vein thrombosis. For diagnosis first a duplex ultrasound or color dopplar would need to be done. If this is negative then a nerve conduction study and test for diabetes. If there is a chance then if everything else is negative, then lupus may need to be tested for.
I had that problem my feets and ankles were soooo swollen and as weeks went by it got worse even my legs started getting swollen .. Went to doc app. On monday and bp was high so I got sent to labor and delivery and had to have my baby at 35+6 weeks ... Shes soo beautiful and healthy .. Wish you luck ..

I started what I thought was my period 2 days later on wednesday, but it was only brown discharge. It stopped on thursday night. Besides that, I've been getting fevers at night to the point where it makes it hard for me to sleep but the only thing wrong is that my stomach is hurting.
Four days ago, I noticed red, sore bumps on my ankles and upper arms. The ones on my legs were much bigger and more painful. I showed my doctor and he thought they looked like insect bites. They don't itch and they are increasing in number. In some spots, they are small and flat. In others, they're swollen to the size of quarters and feel like bruises. I switched birth control pills a little more than a month ago. Could that be the cause of what I'm experiencing?

For almost a week I've had swollen ankles off and on. My dr. Adjust my Coumadin levels but said my thyroid mess need adjusted and that I was dehydrated. Yesterday he started me on lasix but said nothing about the ankles. What could be causing this and should I insist he look Into this further?
