Switching from paxil to zoloft

Common Questions and Answers about Switching from paxil to zoloft

paxil

Avatar n tn My dr decided to switch my medication from Paxil 80mg to Zoloft. He didn't wean me off either. I feel very odd, like I am disconnected from myself and on edge, not as relaxed. I feel at any moment like I am on the verge of having a panic attack. My last dose of Paxil was last night. My first dose of Zoloft was this morning. 100mg morning and 100mg at night. I wonder if this will get worse over the next few days. Has anyone ever experienced withdrawal from switching from one SSRI to another.
Avatar f tn First of all, I don't think Zoloft is approved for use in pregnancy either. Second, how quickly did you quit using Paxil? Switching to Zoloft won't help the withdrawal from Paxil, which is one of the most difficult medications to stop taking particularly after that long. It needs to be done very slowly -- after that long it might take months and months.
Avatar m tn The Zoloft dose seems to be pretty close to the Paxil dose, although due to all of these meds varying in mechanism of action, it is impossible to find a perfect dose to start at with the new med....for each individual person. I think breaking up the Zoloft dose like he did will be helpful to you as well. There is no way we would be able to tell you what dose your doctor will Rx you, that is something you need to discuss with him.
Avatar n tn re stuck between what may be side effects of a new med and withdrawal from an old one. Better to complete withdrawal from Paxil first. Read a book called The Antidepressant Solution by Joseph Glanville, and get a psychiatrist who knows about these things. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I've had friends switch to Zoloft from Paxil, but not vice versa. I believe Paxil is a milder AD with fewer side effects. I was on Paxil a while ago. It took about a month for it to set in, but it worked really well for me. And my friend who is on AD currently. I wouldn't imagine it should be too difficult, because they're working on the same issue, but you may experience some hiccups as the transition takes place.
Avatar f tn Your doctor should put you on a regime to taper off the paxil and increase the zoloft. But if your doctor has said to stop paxil cold turkey and start zoloft you MAY experience withdrawals. You really need to discuss this further with your doctor and let him know what your fears are. There is no way to tell if the paxil has already hurt the baby, most likely not, but it's best to go ahead and switch to the zoloft as soon as possible as it is THE safest SSRI during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn My friend went from years on Paxil to Zoloft with no problems. Depression & anxiety often re occur in our life. Some of us are just prone to it. You did nothing wrong switching meds/trying others. I took prozac in college and it worked like a charm. 15 yrs later I had another bout of anxiety and depression and tried it again and it did nothing sadly.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am in the process of switching from one medication to another as well. Your dosages are a bit different from mine but in my experience the slower the better. I say this only because it lessens the change of side effects but also it felt better for me. I was less nervouse about making the change. I found out that both of my medications came in liquid form and I am able to go down a mg at a time while going up on the new medication 2 mg.
Avatar m tn After 7 years of Lexapro it appears to have stopped working. My Dr. is switching me to Paxil. HAs anyone had this happen before.
397906 tn?1208241269 can i switch to regular xanax and taper off from there? I talked to my Psychiatrist the other week Ryan and he is going to get me started on Buspar, i understand many people around here will say its useless, but my psychiatrist say it works well for 50% of his patients in his Clinical Practice...what do you think? He told me to stop looking into things so much and just give the Buspar a try and i may be on of the luck ones.
Avatar n tn I know of two instances - one person switched from Paxil to Celexa and a second person switched from Effexor to Celexa - neither had any side effects. By the way, there was no "tapering off" period used for either one of these two people - changed the following day to the new medication.
Avatar n tn My niece is wanting to get pregnant again, so her doctor wants her to switch from paxil to zoloft - gave her a new script without any insstructions. Is it safe to just stop the Paxil 20mg and start Zoloft 50? Or, is tehre some sort of transition that should take place? 2. I briefly looked at Paxil and Zoloft - both seem to have the same possible danger in pregnanacy - newboen pulmonary hypertension? Any comments about this - is there a "safe" anti-depressant for pregnancy?
Avatar m tn ve been experiencing extreme depression, anxiety, and loss of concentration, almost every day, and at any time. The worst part of the symptoms can last anywhere from an hour to 4 or 5 hours.Nothing major has changed in my life, my diet and exercise patterns have remained the same. Any suggestions? I've seen information indicating that Zoloft may be a good substitute, but I don't know if it helps with anxiety or concentration issues.
Avatar f tn s no way of knowing how each different SSRI or SNRI will effect someone, and you can switch from Paxil to Prozac, and actually to stop taking antidepressants (especially those with shorter half-lives such as Paxil or Effexor with a half-life of 24hrs) it is recommended to switch to one with a longer half life such as Prozac with a half-life of 4-6 days.
Avatar f tn I have a VERY similar story!! I was on Paxil for about 8 years and it definitley helped a ton with my social anxiety but I had started getting panic attacks so I went to the doc and she switched me to Zoloft (it was a slow process as I didn't want to experience even more anxiety from w/d) but now that I am on Zoloft and have gotten used to it, I believe it is a much better match for me.
Avatar f tn and I maintained on that dose for about three months. I was not getting any better so my Dr. discontinued the Paxil and started me on Zoloft 50 mg. one tab per day. It has been about a week now and I have been feeling even more low now than ever. When I called my Dr. to report this, she said that this was normal and I was to continue on the Zoloft and she will reassess me in a month. My question is, is this standard?
Avatar f tn Also, plz discuss w/ your Doc how to get off the Paxil slowly. It could take a while to get off the Paxil. Aks your Doc what side-effects you might experience on Paxil, so that you're prepared to handle that. Example: when they switched me from Zoloft to Celexa my Doc did it slowly. Once I switched, I noticed that some of the plusses of Zoloft were gone, BUT then some of the minuses from Zoloft left too (which I was glad about).
Avatar n tn I have recently switched from paxil to prozac because of weight gain my doc told me to just stop taking the paxil and take 1\2 pill of the prozac for 6 days then take to full dose after 6 days everything was going go until the 5 day of taking the prozac now i am have anxiety attacks and i just feel so out of it i was just wondering if it was just withdrawls from the paxil or has the prozac even had time to kick in yet just tired of feeling so down and out.
Avatar f tn My doctor recently switched me from Paxil to Wellbutrin due to the decreased sex drive of Paxil. Otherwise Paxil was working well for me. Anyway, my issue is that it was a direct switch, no weaning off of Paxil and I think I'm having the withdrawal. I thought the Wellbutrin would just sort of take over, but I don't think that is the case. I didn't think to ask my doc, and the soonest I can get back to see him is Monday. It's been 5 days w/o Paxil and 4 with Wellbutrin.
1423357 tn?1511085442 Despite my cautionary advice, she is determined to abruptly switch from Effexor to 20mg of Paxil, a 10mg lower dose than what she had been on. Last night she stopped the Effexor and started Paxil. We had an interesting night sleeping as I was awakened a number of times by her "loud" dreaming. This is not unusual since she went on Effexor 7 years ago, but she was particularly active last night, jerking, sort of punching me, and yelling out loud.
4981427 tn?1371670469 These two meds are different though and your body is used to Zoloft. I took Paxil myself and did very well on it. It only took a few days for it to start working for me. Hang in there, okay. Let your Dr know if you are still feeling really anxious after a few days. I do think you will be feeling better soon though.
