Avatar m tn I have been on escitalopram / citalopram for a few years but will be switching to the above.

One thing you can try if you don't want to go back to Effexor and do this a different way is to take a hefty dose of fish oil every day and some magnesium citrate.
Avatar f tn I have been on citalopram for just about two weeks now, and am up to 10mg daily, soon to move to 15mg. Sometimes I think I may be feeling positive effects, sometimes not so sure. I also take xanax through the day to help with the always present anxiety. I take the citalopram in the morning. My mornings usually start around 4 am with anxiety and rapid heart beats that make it hard if not impossible to get back or stay asleep.
Avatar f tn i want to avoid being on anything that means I have to avoid foods, i have very little appetite due to my eating disorder and being on sertraline, I need medication that doesn't limit my diet EVEN MORE, as it makes things a bit tricky.
1128565 tn?1316721143 Hi Its Lorraine again !! Silly me carn't find my new anti-depressants prescribed by specialist - 20 mgs Citalopram. The Dr's seem to be having trouble checking info with hospital, they need to verify the new tablets. In the mean time they have left me without any anti-depressants, I know you can get really ill if you don't take them. Up to now I feel ok, but scared I may go down hill !! Feeling quite good at present and wondering whether I could stay off them ??
Avatar f tn does anyone have any experience with citalopram? i am switching from effexor to citalopram because the cost is cheaper. i have been taking effexor for mild depression, insomnia, and hot flashes.
Avatar f tn Prior to taking any new medication it is very important to look up the discontinuation process (I learned this very painfully from Lexapro- another side effect while on it was it made me feel completely lethargic) good luck to u
Avatar m tn Not a doc, but the combo of Lexapro and Effexor is pretty odd to me. They both affect serotonin, but Effexor also affects norepinephrine. I can switching from one to the other, but don't understand taking both. You do need to discuss this thoroughly with a psychiatrist, but I'd personally get another opinion if you can for these reasons: This one is just adding meds to meds that don't work. That isn't how augmentation is usually done.
Avatar f tn I did take Duloxetine previously for pain (adjunct to the Celebrex) and it did help, but my GP is skeptical that Gabapentin would help even if combined with Duloxetine. Does anyone else have Osteoarthritis and is unable to take NSAIDS and have you found a medication that works? Thanks in advance for your replies.
Avatar n tn Hi, I took Paxil for years for perimenopause. Went off of it last July after switching to Cymbalta and then lexapro and Citalopram (had a bad reaction to the citalopram and stopped everything). Been doing O.K. since then cause went through menopause. Some people have horror stories about withdrawing from Paxil but I didn't and I know of at least one other person who had no problems with stopping the paxil.
1218873 tn?1300091216 I had expected him to up my dose of Lyrica from 400mg a day to 600mg a day, as I still have a lot of neuropathic pain. But instead he stopped my amitriptyline which I take 50mg at night and changed to 60mg Duloxetine at night. I gather it is an anti depression tablet also used for neuropathic pain in diabetic's I am not Diabetic. So I wonder what peoples opinions were?
Avatar m tn First thing to note, Unfortunately smoking does affects the amount of duloxetine in your system and blood stream meaning that you will loose between 40 - 50% of the duloxetine dose you take. It is not uncommon for people to have their duloxetine prescription increased if they smoke.
Avatar n tn I have been on Klonopin for 3 weeks. 0.5 mg twice a day. I really don't know if it has done much other than make me get depressed more often. I went on it for anxiety. I had been fighting the anxiety with talk therapy for 10 months, but finally I just felt I needed something. I had asked my doctor about trying Buspar. She said that it would make me feel drugged and that I should take Klonopin. I've been reading about it and have gotten pretty scared.

Unfortunately it is not uncommon if you miss a dose to be experiencing these problems if your on a high dose, my patients even at a dose of 30mg do experience brain zaps, nausea and vomiting even with just one day missed.
Avatar m tn Both citalopram, (Celexa) and escitalopram, (Lexapro) are SSRI's and both have, as unlabeled uses the control of panic. They both also have CNS side effects of anxiety in the beginning stages of treatment. You say you've been on the citalopram for approximately 5 weeks? It can take up to 35 days for citalopram to reach "steady state" in your blood, which means you won't begin to feel any real relief from your depresson for possibly a bit over a month.

1900997 tn?1321659956 Well, you are 11 years older, so some changes to your heart in relationship to the Citalopram may have occurred. In addition, other medications, OTC and Prescriptions, supplements, etc. should be considered. Here's an article that gives a balanced view of your concern, though not predicating it on long term use of Citalopram. If you note in the article, concerns of the elderly are expressed concerning QTc prolongation in relation to dose and age.
Avatar f tn I asked about switching to klonopin, but am afraid to try to mix a new drug in when I am still getting used to the citalopram. I hate the feeling of general anxiety. I t just *****, but I am so glad to have found this site and hear others are going through it (and surviving).
Avatar n tn Perhaps you can help answering: does substitution of citalopram by effexor would help the withdral that I'm having now by not taking citalopram? It's been 4 days and I have brain zaps, dizziness...it's hard to deal with and I don't have a doctor to go to. Would effexor take the effects of withdral? Thanks.
15256956 tn?1439425231 Was the low heartrate from the Citalopram? I read from numerous sources it was recently discovered to cause Bundle Branch Block, which I have (Right Incomplete). Could my RIBBB have been a product of the Citalopram? I'm freaking out.
Avatar f tn Thanks! The doc suggested switching to klonopin, but I am just afraid to try another drug. Yesterday I felt good, like I could go with out the xanax, but the last time I did that, I felt like I was losing my mind. Now I know about tapering. I have only been on it a month, but I am just sensitive to meds. I wish you well on your journey!
Avatar n tn So you might try taking a magnesium citrate supplement and see if it helps. Keep in mind it usually takes four to six weeks to tell if an antidepressant is going to work, and which side effects you are going to live with and which are just part of getting used to the med. It's also a good idea to build up the dosage slowly to the therapeutic dose so you can gauge how you're responding and let the body slowly adjust to the med.
Avatar f tn A common approach to this problem would be to add more norepinephrine activity either by switching to a medicine like Cymbalta (duloxetine) or Effexor (venlafaxine) or by adding a small dose of Wellbutrin (bupropion) to the Prozac. Increased norepinephrine activity should enhance motivation and focus. An alternative approach might be to try reducing slightly the dose of the Prozac... the apathy inducing effect of Prozac and other medications like it definitely seems to be dose related...
