I would like to know how long after taking Sumatriptan/Imitrex could any drowsiness side effect be considered to have worn off for when I get a migraine away from home and have no reasonable option to get home without driving myself. A few years ago, I got a migraine while some distance from home. I do not drive with a migraine.
I am glad you have found some relief. As far as side effects, I sometimes have felt sleepy and if I can have a short nap and when I wake usually feel somewhat better. I find also the pill has a bitter taste which can leave a heartburn-like feeling but that is rather short-lived. I once had someone suggest I have my glasses checked as they felt perhaps the prescription could be even slightly off thus resulting in eye strain and headache. Hope all is getting better. Take care.
s typical for me to have migraines on the back of my head rather than my left/right side of my head. Sumatriptan/Imitrex will work, but not how it used to. My migraines are worse than how it used to be, and I'm scared to take sumatriptan because 1) It may or may not work. 2) if it doesn't work, I am now 1 sumatriptan short. My gut feeling says something isn't right, but I don't know how to go about it.
Yesterday morning I woke up around 4am with another migraine.
It seems to help most of the time. I am also on sumatriptan for migraines. This was the first time I experienced this constant pain right behind my left eye. Thought the pain was from migraines so I took sumatriptan . So migraines are a throbbing pain on one side?
I should also note that the very first time i started getting these facial pain attacks, my first doctor thought it was migraines and prescribed me Sumatriptan. And the sumatriptan did take the pain away. And I have learned that sumatriptan helps with cluster headaches. Is there any other trigeminal neuralgia sufferers out there, who suffer the same symptoms as I do? Help me please I am very confused about this condition!!!

Apo-Indomethacin and Pms-Sumatriptan was prescribed to me by my doctor. I am also on progesterin to help reduce the amount of headaches, I have been using nasal sprays as well. Month six, no change. Blood tests shows no diabetes, Thyroid, liver or kidney problems. I have been sleeping about 13-14 hours a day. I have a swollen gland on the left side of the back of my neck and has been swollen for about five years, I don't know if it is related.
The only side effects that I had from it were some numbness and tingling in my hands and feet. They say that is pretty normal. I also tried Lamictal, Keppra, and Depakote.
The drug that I have found the most relief from is actually an Alzheimer's drug. It is called Namenda. There has been some research that has shown that it helps to prevent migraine. When I first went on it, I went for over 3 months without so much a daily headache.
Cannot tolerate side effects. Sumatriptan injection quickly aborts but only allotted so much per month. Almost out of injections and has no pain relief. Neuro dropped her as patient and advised to find another neuro. He states cant do any thing more fr her. Been to ER. No help. Referred to neuro. Can't get in for 3 weeks. They feel no urgency. Also dr adv her she as penial cyst but not the reason for the pain....he states has had cyst since birth?? Cannot function.
If you are finding that the relpax is causing unwanted side-effects, there are other triptan medications you can try for acute therapy:
- Rizatriptan, brand name Maxalt. tastes pretty bad, but a lot of my friends swear by it.
- Sumatriptan, brand name Imitrex. really not very effective at all in the tablet form. the most effective triptan out there pretty much in injection form... what they give you in the hospital.

My doctor prescribed me trazodone hydrochloride for anxiety, sumatriptan succinate for migraines, zopiclone for sleep, I've been told I can take the trazodone with zopiclone, but I have the new sumatriptan tablets, it says in the medical pamphlet that it is an MAO-A inhibitor and can't be taken with antidepressants/anxiety tablets.
Would it be ok to take both the trazodone hydrochloride and the sumatriptin succinate together?
Prescribed Gabapentin, Oxcarbazephine, Sumatriptan. Medications enhanced symptoms and had discomforting side effects, no longer taking these meds. Saw ENT who prescribed Amitriptyline, med only helps with going to sleep, still taking this med.
Had MRI w/o contrast that showed no problem. Saw ENT that found no problems from looking in my ear and nose. Over counter meds have been more successful in alleviating symptoms with no known side effects.
I've had the same problem for some time (with the same symptoms). It is probably benign sex headache - but check with a doctor to be sure. My preference is to see a doc I havent met before (because I'm shy talking to them about personal things).
Your Doc may send you to get a CT scan or other scan (recommended) to rule out a brain injury.I recently had mine and it came back clear so I am happy.
I will do that it seems the higher dose has created this and I'm not on anything else.
Many AD's have side effects that affect the libido, guess it applies to both sex es. As far as I know all AD's have this drastic effect . Hopefully you'll find one that's OK for you . Good luck.
Yes, I've only been on it a week and I experience the muscle aches and bilateral flank pain as well. In addition, insomnia!
THOUGHT I WAS GOING CRAZY BEFORE I FOUND YOU GUY. SIDE EFFECTS MUCH MORE THAN WE HAD BEEN LED TO BELIEVE.PERSONALLY HAVE THE BLURRY VISION, ENHANCED JOINT PAIN, SWEATS, AND SLEEP NOT GOOD. FINALLY SAW FEED BACK FROM THE COMMUNITY THAT VERIFIED OTHERS FEELING SAME. ANYONE FEELING ANYTHING ELSE ODD? PLEASE POST. ALSO HAVE BLOATING, IRRITABILITY. AND CONTRARY TO WHAT DOCTORS SAY, I'M ALWAYS CONSTIPATED.
