(as long as the doctor at the clinic agrees) And, try to get samples of what ever triptans the clinic has to hand out if possible, regardless of the brand.. all triptans have been proven effective in clinical trials, so they are all worth trying as long as your doctor agrees, especially if it is a free sample.
Avatar f tn I am a 28 year old female and have had a few health problems in the past. I have graves disease with was treated with radioactive iodine in 2006. In October 2007 I went for a routine eye test and was told myy eyes were except I had a slight deterioration in one eye, my prescription wasn't changed.
Avatar f tn Medications or surgery are often done to manage TN while avoiding the migraine triggers and prescription medications help with the headaches. If it persists, check with your doctor for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.

Avatar n tn Hi, Some of the recent studies have indicated that triptans like Sumatriptan can be combined safely with SSRI. The chances of developing serotonin syndrome are much less than expected if triptans and SSRI are combined together. I would suggest you to discuss this option with your specialist and let us know if you have more questions. http://findarticles.
Avatar f tn With cluster headaches, oxygen, ergotamine, sumatriptan or intranasal application of local anesthetic agent may be indicated. A referral to a neurologist may also be very helpful for thew management. Take care and do keep us posted.
1761287 tn?1313824787 Hello...I have always suffered severe knock-you-on-your-booty migraines. There are generalized in either my temples or behind my eyes...like in my forehead. Bright lights hurt more than sound, but sound does hurt if there is too much bass. Sometimes, associated with nausea & dizziness. They are worse right before my periods. Sometimes, popsicles help. I don't know if this matters, but I have to wear earpugs to sleep & play waves really loud because of my loud neighbors.
Avatar f tn What type of headaches did the doctors say you had? This sounds like you might be suffering from "cluster headaches". Cluster headaches are the worst pain that exists pretty much... so, your description of being shot makes me think of that. Also, they are on one side of the head, and usually around the eye. So... the starting point of your headache sounds like it is in the right place for a cluster headache. Also, them waking you up in the night sounds like cluster headaches too.
Avatar f tn By night 2, I was afraid to fall asleep because I would wake up every hour, which the pain increased as the hours went by. I took my sumatriptan as directed, with no relief. This was the first time my medications didn't work. The night before I called my doctor, I experienced tingling on my hands and feet and had little to no sleep. When I went to my doctor, she suspected that I had viral meningitis, and called the ER to let them know I was on my way.
Avatar n tn I am also on progesterin to help reduce the amount of headaches, I have been using nasal sprays as well. Month six, no change. Blood tests shows no diabetes, Thyroid, liver or kidney problems. I have been sleeping about 13-14 hours a day. I have a swollen gland on the left side of the back of my neck and has been swollen for about five years, I don't know if it is related. Eye exam was done last year and my eyes are 20/20. Deviated Septem was also ruled out.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed me trazodone hydrochloride for anxiety, sumatriptan succinate for migraines, zopiclone for sleep, I've been told I can take the trazodone with zopiclone, but I have the new sumatriptan tablets, it says in the medical pamphlet that it is an MAO-A inhibitor and can't be taken with antidepressants/anxiety tablets. Would it be ok to take both the trazodone hydrochloride and the sumatriptin succinate together?
Avatar f tn s tried over-the-counter medicines to relieve the pain from the headaches, but they do no good. His doctor will only consider prescription medication as a last resort. Is there anything that he can try to alleviate, or at least lessen, the pain from these headaches?
1088430 tn?1259159773 You might be able to fill both the Relpax and Sumatriptan prescription next month too and get both covered, since they are different medications... so, instead of only 6 covered doses of the Relpax, you might be able to get 6 covered doses of the Relpax + 6 covered doses of the Sumatriptan.
Avatar f tn Also, consult with your Doctor as to whether it is safe for you to take prescription medication like Triptans etc, at this stage. Unfortunately it's a fine line between taking medication at the right time but expensive if at the wrong time because of their cost. By the way, would you consider answering a post below yours that deals with the ability to predict when a migraine might hit you. In other words would such a thing be valuable or beneficial to you? Thanks for your help as well.
Avatar f tn I would like to know how long after taking Sumatriptan/Imitrex could any drowsiness side effect be considered to have worn off for when I get a migraine away from home and have no reasonable option to get home without driving myself. A few years ago, I got a migraine while some distance from home. I do not drive with a migraine.
768044 tn?1294223436 If you suffer from multiple migraine headaches a month or if you suffer from chronic migraine headaches, it is usually advisable to avoid OTC pain killers as they can actually cause rebound headaches if taken too often. That is why it is always advisable to see a doctor in order to get a prescription for a medication more suitable for migraines.
768044 tn?1294223436 So, he prescribed me Imitrex Injection (Sumatriptan Injection). I dropped off the prescription at the pharmacy after the appointment and they told me I could pick it up tomorrow morning. He said he also prescribed Imitrex Injection for his cluster headache patients too. I had a migraine tonight but it was a normal migraine and my zomig+naproxen+analgesic cream took care of it. So all in all today was a pretty good day.
Avatar f tn I should also note that the very first time i started getting these facial pain attacks, my first doctor thought it was migraines and prescribed me Sumatriptan. And the sumatriptan did take the pain away. And I have learned that sumatriptan helps with cluster headaches. Is there any other trigeminal neuralgia sufferers out there, who suffer the same symptoms as I do? Help me please I am very confused about this condition!!! Sarah.
Avatar n tn maybe only a few hours at the most. for the most part i take sumatriptan for the pain. i have no idea why it works but it works for me. if you've been on it than maybe it doesnt work, but if you havent been on it, ask your doc about it. hope any of this helps!
Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? Sumatriptan or Imigran tablets may or may not be taken with food. There are no special considerations with regards to alcohol but this may trigger or exacerbate migraine attack. Avatar f tn I have a migraine of some degree about 28 days of the month. I get Botox injections, am on Topomax, Sumatriptan, anti nausea meds...the whole works. My life was changed in an instant. I am wondering if anyone has had a similar incident, and recovered??? None of my doctors can say if I will ever be free of these migraines...
Avatar f tn Hi I am a 32 year old female who has been suffering with debilitating daily migraines for 13 or so years . I have tried so many preventative medications with no success. I am now taking sumatriptan injections which masks the pain and also have gone oxygen. I am still suffering daily and have had no success with any medication . I am still under a neurologist who are still not sure why I am getting these horrendous headaches , I have told them I get them when hot .
Avatar m tn The thought behind being cool is that the pain is a result of swelling in the nasal cavity/sinuses that presses against a nerve or something and keeping cool means the swelling doesn’t happen. He can take Sumatriptan tablets, which help reduce blood vessels, and these seem to work but he's limited to 8 a month. The feeling he has is that there is a blockage or the nasal valve in the right nostril has collapsed or malfunctioned.
