Sumatriptan for headaches

Common Questions and Answers about Sumatriptan for headaches

imitrex

Avatar f tn Medications or surgery are often done to manage TN while avoiding the migraine triggers and prescription medications help with the headaches. If it persists, check with your doctor for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn You could try that too maybe? Sometimes muscle pain, tension headaches, trigger points can all be triggers for migraines. Oh, and on that note... you can also get injections into trigger point sites. You can get freezing, pain-killing, nerve-block type injections into trigger point sites that help with pain. Or, there is botox that some people use that helps with their migraines. Talk to your doctor about this. Let us know how it goes.
1102283 tn?1257817472 But, due to cost constraints, I would suggest getting a prescription for the cheapest generic triptan which is called Sumatriptan tablets. The Sumatriptan tablets work well for many people, so if they work well for you then that would be excellent and you can just stick to them as your only prescription. Although, due to the extremely low bioavailability of Sumatriptan tablets, they do not always work well for everyone (although Sumatriptan is still the most prescribed triptan on the market).
Avatar f tn And I have learned that sumatriptan helps with cluster headaches. Is there any other trigeminal neuralgia sufferers out there, who suffer the same symptoms as I do? Help me please I am very confused about this condition!!! Sarah.
612876 tn?1355514495 I'm so glad you had success with it! I looked briefly at one of the links you provided and found the drug was sumatriptan, the same medication as imitrex. So unfortunately, it doesn't look like a solution for me. With sumatriptan pills, it could give me chest pains though I used to take it anyway. Injections (not needleless ones)-the first one seemed to work quite well and I went to a ballgame with my work afterward (back in the days I was working).
Avatar m tn my husband has had these cluster headaches, for 5 years, they come every year, they start in the eye and he screams when they come, they last 5-10 seconds and his eye is red. hes taken all kinds of medicine but none of them work.
3102503 tn?1341318713 My husband gets headaches (not migraines, but headaches) almost everyday from allergies too. I noticed that days that I am stressed or upset, my teeth tend to clench (or if i cry i get them too because of the muscle tension), and that always results in a migraine either than night and into the next day or starting the next day. I would suggest to try your best to note things that happen in your day-to-day activities to see if they may correlate at all with your migraines.
1761287 tn?1313824787 Hello...I have always suffered severe knock-you-on-your-booty migraines. There are generalized in either my temples or behind my eyes...like in my forehead. Bright lights hurt more than sound, but sound does hurt if there is too much bass. Sometimes, associated with nausea & dizziness. They are worse right before my periods. Sometimes, popsicles help. I don't know if this matters, but I have to wear earpugs to sleep & play waves really loud because of my loud neighbors.
Avatar f tn Hi I am a 32 year old female who has been suffering with debilitating daily migraines for 13 or so years . I have tried so many preventative medications with no success. I am now taking sumatriptan injections which masks the pain and also have gone oxygen. I am still suffering daily and have had no success with any medication . I am still under a neurologist who are still not sure why I am getting these horrendous headaches , I have told them I get them when hot .
Avatar f tn Knowing that it typically gets worse, I took a sumatriptan before bed. Last night, I woke up every hour desperate for relief. Ice didn't work. Changing my position didn't work. The sumatriptan didn't work (I took it again around 4am this morning, which I think it's bizarre that 4am seems to be the time I'm fed up enough to take medication).
Avatar f tn Hello Im sorry your husband is going through this. First how do you know its cluster headaches? Has your husband been to a headache specialist? Where do u live? Google headache specialist in your area. I had 2 cluster headache cycles in my life and they are no joke almost makes migraines a piece of cake. There is also a support site called ****************.com. There are alot of treatment for cluster's.
Avatar n tn The day after the surgery my EP Dr put me on Propranolol daily and Sumatriptan to take when I get the headaches, but it doesn't seem to be working and the migraines keep coming. I've gotten 2 migraines today already. Has anyone experienced this after a heart ablation? did it go away? I cannot imagine having headaches like this for the rest of my life. They are debilitating. I can't go to work, I can't sleep, I can't eat, I can't do anything! HELP!!
Avatar n tn that is seeing floaters or what i call lightning strikes, not being able to see for a while before the headaches start, take the maxalt right away. this will help.
Avatar f tn Drugs like analgesics avoiding aspirin for reye’s syndrome, sumatriptan for migraines etc. consult a pediatric neurologist for appropriate advice. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn I just took shot #5 last night and the only sx I must say that I'm having is a nausiating headache that will NOT go away! I usually get a headache after my shot but after tylenol it dissapates, but since last weeks shot this is not the case. In fact, I couldn't get out of bed for four days because of it last week. Has anyone else experienced headaches like these?
Avatar f tn I think you should talk to your doctor about hormones or food sensitivites and ask him/her about if sumatriptan is right for you. (Sometimes if I can do nothing else to get a little relief, I put a cold cloth on my forehead and lay down for a while.
518798 tn?1295212279 I have been taking sumatriptan for about twenty years or so. I have as many as four headaches in a week and as few as one a month. I use the injections and tablets. I have never experienced any addiction or need to take this. I do not believe it is a dependency type medication. I know I have never felt a need to take it other than to relieve a migraine. But its a life saver for migraines.
Avatar m tn I have been diagnosed with cluster headaches and have been prescribed sumatriptan. Cluster headaches are migraines that usually last for a short period of time, and for me is always on the right temple. The pill works wonders. I only take half the pill and that seems to do the trick every time. If I take the whole pill I will have really bad body aches so I prefer to only take half.
Avatar m tn If these are ruled out, empirical therapy for possible migraines needs to be instituted like topamax for prevention of migraine attacks and trial of triptans like sumatriptan in the event of an attack to check if these abort the headaches. If these measures do not help, you need to be investigated for multiple sclerosis. The symptoms of multiple sclerosis are loss of balance, muscle spasms, numbness in any area, problems with walking and coordination, tremors in one or more arms and legs.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed me trazodone hydrochloride for anxiety, sumatriptan succinate for migraines, zopiclone for sleep, I've been told I can take the trazodone with zopiclone, but I have the new sumatriptan tablets, it says in the medical pamphlet that it is an MAO-A inhibitor and can't be taken with antidepressants/anxiety tablets. Would it be ok to take both the trazodone hydrochloride and the sumatriptin succinate together?
