Avatar f tn Does anyone else have cluster headaches? How do you deal with them? What pain killers help you best? I missed so many classes this first year at college because my cluster cycle was so severe I couldn't get out of bed. OTC medications don't do anything for my pain and my doctors don't want me taking anything too strong do to a minor heart problem I have.
Avatar m tn my husband has had these cluster headaches, for 5 years, they come every year, they start in the eye and he screams when they come, they last 5-10 seconds and his eye is red. hes taken all kinds of medicine but none of them work.
Avatar f tn s opinion and asking for referrals to local headache centers that focus on cluster headaches may indeed be helpful. Cluster headache usually responds to similar migraine preventative drugs and can often be brought under better control temporarily by steroids or nerve blocks. Many patients also respond to inhaled 100 percent oxygen while others benefit from topical anesthetic applied inside the nose, injected or nasal triptans.

327385 tn?1378360731 You should try to get a new family doctor. Also, you could try going to the ER. Or, a walk-in clinic. All of these options will be less expensive than going to a specialist if you can't afford to see a specialist on a regular basis. You absolutely need to find a doctor that will help you with pain management. You should not be in a situation where you feel hopeless. As for ice-pick headaches... do you know what triggers them other than light?
Avatar m tn Cluster headache do not respond to standard analgesics - Anecdotal evidence indicates that cluster headaches can be so excruciating that even morphine does little to ease the pain. Sumatriptan given by subcutaneous injection is the drug of choice for the treatment of cluster headache. Alternatively, 100% oxygen at a rate of 15-25 litres/minute is useful in aborting an attack in some patients. Cluster headaches are classified as vascular.
Avatar m tn The treatments of choice for acute cluster headache are oxygen (7 L per minute for 15 minutes), sumatriptan, or a combination of the two ….” Source:http://www.aafp.org/afp/20050215/717.html Prednisone has also been used to prevent any of the attacks. Has cluster headache been considered in your case?

Avatar f tn Drugs like analgesics avoiding aspirin for reye’s syndrome, sumatriptan for migraines etc. consult a pediatric neurologist for appropriate advice. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar m tn Alcohol can be a headache trigger for many people. It is for me. I don't find that all types of alcohol triggers my headaches. Wine always triggers my headaches, and does for most people... so wine would probably not be better. Beer is another big headache trigger. BUT! Everyone is different. If wine doesn't trigger your headaches, then... you can drink wine without too much worry as long as you don't drink enough to get hung over the next day, right?
Avatar m tn I have a problem with headaches recently. I have a headache all day long, some days its annoying and others its barely noticable. my doc diagnosed me with cluster headache. and put me on verapamil. your symptoms seem to match those of a cluster headache.
Avatar m tn I have been diagnosed with cluster headaches and have been prescribed sumatriptan. Cluster headaches are migraines that usually last for a short period of time, and for me is always on the right temple. The pill works wonders. I only take half the pill and that seems to do the trick every time. If I take the whole pill I will have really bad body aches so I prefer to only take half.
Avatar f tn As mentioned from your other post, your headaches can be due to primary headaches especially if the imaging tests done were normal. Cluster headaches usually respond to oxygen, ergotamine, sumatriptan or intranasal application of local anesthetic agent. Preventive medications such as use of steroids, calcium channel blockers and lithium have been used also. Check with your doctor for proper management. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn It is good that both the MRI and MRA were normal and this means that primary headaches such as cluster and migraine headaches may be considered. Cluster headaches usually respond to oxygen, ergotamine, sumatriptan or intranasal application of local anesthetic agent. Preventive medications such as use of steroids, calcium channel blockers and lithium have been used also. Try to avoid over-the-counter medications because these can lead to rebound headaches as well.
Avatar f tn This is one type of primary headache which is often associated with migraine headaches also. Pain frequently develops during sleep and may last for several hours. Try to avoid alcoholic beverages or excessive smoking because this can trigger it. Treatment may include oxygen, ergotamine, sumatriptan or intranasal application of local anesthetic agent. Check with your doctor for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Medications or surgery are often done to manage TN while avoiding the migraine triggers and prescription medications help with the headaches. If it persists, check with your doctor for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn If there was no history of trauma to the head or neck, this could be due to primary headaches such as cluster headache. Cluster headaches present with pain in the vicinity of the eye with associated tearing, nose congestion, or flushing of face. The pain frequently develops during sleep and may last for several hours. Attacks occur every day then disappear for a time. If this persists, have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation.
Avatar n tn Headaches are of different types like tension, migraine, sinus and cluster headaches. Your headaches seem to be coming in cycles with either pain free interval or reduced intensity. They seem like cluster headaches. Please see these two links for more information on them. http://www.relieve-migraine-headache.com/cause-cluster-headache.html http://www.relieve-migraine-headache.com/cluster-headache-treatments.
Avatar n tn I've had what the doctors call cluster migraines for about 15 years. I've been many times to the doctor, although when I was younger they said there was no pills for this type of thing. They will come often, mostly a constant pressure that will build up now and again for weeks or months at a time, with short reprieves for a month or two.
Avatar n tn You could try that too maybe? Sometimes muscle pain, tension headaches, trigger points can all be triggers for migraines. Oh, and on that note... you can also get injections into trigger point sites. You can get freezing, pain-killing, nerve-block type injections into trigger point sites that help with pain. Or, there is botox that some people use that helps with their migraines. Talk to your doctor about this. Let us know how it goes.
Avatar f tn Hi check cluster headaches, if its something that you are experiencing write me back as I suffered with those and can tell you what helped me.
1102283 tn?1257817472 But, due to cost constraints, I would suggest getting a prescription for the cheapest generic triptan which is called Sumatriptan tablets. The Sumatriptan tablets work well for many people, so if they work well for you then that would be excellent and you can just stick to them as your only prescription. Although, due to the extremely low bioavailability of Sumatriptan tablets, they do not always work well for everyone (although Sumatriptan is still the most prescribed triptan on the market).
Avatar m tn My father has been suffering from cluster headaches for about 20 years or so. He is 77 years old. They seem to come on around November and stay until March. They are really severe on him. The Dr. gave him Ultram 50 mg. But that don't help him at all. Can you recommend anything he can try? Are there any trials out? Thank you for any help.
Avatar f tn Anyone else diagnosed with cluster headaches before pregnancy? If so do you find yourself experiencing them more now that you're pregnant? I get them, usually between December and March, but last night I started with one and it still hasn't gone away.
