Avatar n tn I have given more blood than I even thought I had in my body. I took a paper into my doctor with tons of highlighted symptoms of serotonin syndrome and he was dumbfounded. He said that I was lucky because usually by the time serotonin syndrome is diagnosed the patient is in a coma. I have never felt the burning in my brain again, and I now am trying to deal with all of the strange symptoms that are still hanging around as well as figure out what the real problem was to begin with.
2124631 tn?1335166144 It is the med that my HA specialist put me on and every time I take it I have this horrible burning sensation, tightness and stiffness from my head down my shoulders and arms. It is so bad, I would almost rather have the HA, than this pain.
Avatar n tn The chances of developing serotonin syndrome are much less than expected if triptans and SSRI are combined together. I would suggest you to discuss this option with your specialist and let us know if you have more questions. http://findarticles.
Avatar f tn So again, were you diagnosed as having serotonin syndrome? And sex and exercise have nothing to do with this, serotonin syndrome usually occurs when someone mixes different drugs that target serotonin receptors, which to my knowledge Robitussin does not.
Avatar f tn Has anyone used Remeron for depression, while taking Maxalt for their migraines? I have migraines about every other day, and take 5mg maxalt for them. I was just given Remeron for depression, as the doc said i cannot take any SSRI's because of serotonin syndrome. I cannot find and interactions for Remeron, but just wondering if anyone else has tried these together. Any info appreciated.
Avatar f tn Well the next night it happened again I took the ativan they perscribed and it seemed to help calm me but the pain was still there. I went and saw my doctor who told me serotonin syndrome usually passes within a few days it has been a week now and I feel horrible and I keep having these attacks (although not as intense). Therefore, my question is how long does this last because I cannot handle it anymore it is painful and I am soo exhausted.
Avatar f tn When we got off the ship I called my PCP and she told me to see a doctor in florida. That doctor checked my reflexes etc and diagnosed me with Serotonin Syndrome. She prescribed me lorazepam which helped a lot and told me to see my PCP when I returned home. The next day I saw my PCP and she diagnosed me with SS as well. She told me it could take a week or two to feel better. The same day I basically went nuts with panic, depression, confusion, heart palpitations, tremor etc.
Avatar f tn Thank you. :) I did go to my family doctor and brought someone along to help communicate... my family doc's the one who got me in through triage later that day to see the psychiatrist.
Avatar f tn to pursue more testing/treatment immediately, wait it out, brave the elavil... I know that serotonin syndrome can be dangerous, and I was already very ill to begin with; I'm not sure how much my body can take. I've slept once in 5 or 6 days.
Avatar f tn I believe I have this and 2 times in a row. I trusted my doctor and have been talking with him since this happened over a month ago. I was on paxil 12.5 mg and had stressful events occur and had break through non stop severe anxiety/panick disorder. He then tried to switch me over to lexapro which I was on paxil for 17 yrs and started having withdrawls I though and asked him to put me back on paxil. So he was not happy about it but he did. I seem to get a liottle better the first day I took 12.
Avatar m tn The physiologic manifestations of serotonin syndrome are largely due to stimulation of 5HT1a and 5HT2 receptors.[10]" "Direct 5HT receptor stimulation - Buspirone (BuSpar), triptans (Imitrex..." I took Buspar today and I had a fluttering rapid heartbeat, and extreme restlessness. I also noticed last week I was getting fevers after I was taking it. I think it is best that I get off of it soon as possible. You really dont think that anything could have happened???
Avatar f tn For example, serotonin syndrome can occur if you take selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) for depression along with triptan medications to treat migraine. Serotonin syndrome can also occur if you take SSRIs with other drugs or supplements that affect serotonin levels, such as St. John's wort. Signs and symptoms of serotonin syndrome range from restlessness and rapid heartbeat to muscle rigidity and seizures.
968908 tn?1274871115 erm no i'm sure that this is Serotonin syndrome cause for 1 i am not taking any other serotopic drugs, such as you suggest. Also my symptoms fit to a tee, and this is trusting my instincts. There is no 'test' to diganose this condition, only supportive care. If you go onto any web-site regarding this you will see that all the symtoms i have spoken of are in the 'mild to moderate' cat... Thank-you for trying to diganose my smyptoms though and taking your time to respond...
1632202 tn?1302804098 Serotonin syndrome occurs when you mix an MAOI and SSRI. I was recently on Lexapro for a while. Had relapse so my MD put me on Zoloft and XANAX. I had a terrible reaction for a week. went to a psychaitrist and he put me back on lexapro and klonopin which after 3 days feels like it is working! Good luck but dont give up you will find something that works!
497348 tn?1283436066 I work very close with a psychiatrist and me and him were in touch the whole time this was going on and he made his own diagnosis that it was serotonin syndrome just because of the meds I was taking. I was tapering off of Celexa 10 mg, I would take it every other day. The last 5 days I took it every single night...
Avatar f tn Number one golden rule--never go off any meds cold turkey--the withdrawls can be hell on earth.
Avatar n tn re worried you should continue to take the medication and call your doctor to make an appointment to talk about it, and if you do somehow develop serotonin syndrome off of low doses like that someone else will notice and take you to the hospital. I'd be willing to bet that it won't happen though.
Avatar f tn Can serotonin syndrome develop gradually and be mild vs just the short term acute serious descriptions I've read? I have unexplained neuro sx including clonus and hyperreflexia and have been taking 20 mg of celebs for over 5 yrs. is this a possible cause?
Avatar m tn I thought I may have chronic fatigue syndrome but I am now thinking it could have been serotonin syndrome. I was feeling impulsive and I did not plan to smoke very much of this "wax", but I ended up choking on it a little bit and I got extremely high. I ended up hallucinating and feeling horrible for several hours afterwards. Ever since then I have been low energy, feeling flat, muscle tremors, eye problems, cognitive problems (mainly short term memory).
Avatar f tn If you experience fever then there is high chance you have either serotonin or a viral infection. In contrary to the calming effect of serotonin, serotonin syndrome will mostly make you hyperactive, stiff, tremors and in the worse case will cause fever and this when it is potentially dangerous. Anxiety and stress can cause tremors too. If you have been stressed out lately then it could explain the tremors too and also various aches.
Avatar m tn Serotonin syndrome is rare to begin with, and certainly a 10mg dose of Prozac wouldn't cause it. It happens when multiple drugs/substances which affect serotonin are used concurrently. It sounds like you were just extremely sensitive to the Prozac and didn't tolerate it well. Keep the lines of communication open with your doctor, and let him/her know how you're doing. It will take a few days to get you feeling better if all of your symptoms are related to the Prozac.
Avatar n tn I appreciate everyones comments. I guess it all depends on one's body chemistry. Alot of people out there take 200mg of Zoloft and alot of people take 25mgs. What works for one, obviously does not work for all. If one's serotonin levels are "borderline" and they take a lower dose of whatever med, it stands to reason that to much would or could have a bad effect.
Avatar f tn t have Serotonin Syndrome. Your symptoms are side effects of the Adderall. Call your doctor Monday and ask to be seen...when you get there, tell him you want off the Adderall, it was a poor choice to begin with. I would tell you to just quit taking it all together, but you must check with your doctor first.
Avatar n tn Told my boyfriend to make a promise to take me to a psychiatrist. Obviously I have serotonin syndrome, but nobody seems to listen. I can tell it's affecting my kidneys now...major withdrawals symptoms, etc. Has anyone ever had it before and it is just my imagination or should I be seeking immediate care, or do I continue my days of malaise until my 2-7 weeks is up? please answer...desperately seeking answers...
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed me both and so far i have only taken the buspar. I have read taking both could cause serotonin syndrome and scared to take the doxepin. I take 15mg x 3 daily of buspar and was given 50 mg of doxepin to take at bedtime.
471949 tn?1236904026 s wort, phenylpiperidine opioids, dextromethorphan, and 5-hydroxytryptophan may potentiate the risk of serotonin syndrome, which is a rare but serious and potentially fatal condition thought to result from hyperstimulation of brainstem 5-HT1A and 2A receptors. MANAGEMENT: In general, the concomitant use of multiple serotonergic agents should be avoided if possible, or otherwise approached with caution if potential benefit is deemed to outweigh the risk.
Avatar f tn I used to take Tramadol with Remeron (an anti-depressant) a couple of years back over a period of 3 years and did not experience any symptoms of serotonin syndrome. However, my doctors were aware of this possibility and kept the dose of my anti-depressant at a reasonable level for safe combination with Tramadol. So, I do think it is wise to taper down on the anti-depressant if you are taking a high dose before starting tramadol.
Avatar f tn Also just as scary there is somthing called Serotionin syndrome Serotonin syndrome is a life-threatening drug reaction that causes the body to have too much serotonin, a chemical produced by nerve cells. Serotonin syndrome most often occurs when two drugs that affect the body's level of serotonin are taken together at the same time. The drugs cause too much serotonin to be released or to remain in the brain area.
