There is no cure for migraines, but there are very effective treatments out there that can reduce the number of migraines to something that is completely manageable for a person.
It sounds like your husband has begun to suffer from chronic migraines (15+ a month). That means he qualifies for daily medication. There are 3 types of daily medication:
- Antidepressants: the one that is the most prescribed is called amitriptyline. i tried it and it didn't work for me at all...
has anyone tried Amitriptyline and it worked? how long does it take to work and at what dosage? I am just concerned that the anxiety is being caused by Amit. and I don't want to keep taking it if it does not work. Also if I keep taking it, and it does not work, then I will have to deal with the withdrawal symptoms. Please help, I need advise.
I am not on any thyroid medication. I am on Amitriptyline low dose 10mg for migraine prevention and Sumatriptan for pain when migraines occur. I have not had tests beyond the TSH, but maybe I should.

This guy is very popular, so getting your first appointment is a long wait. I used to feel like my migraines were controllable; they didn't own me, I owned them kind of thing...
My doctor prescribed me trazodone hydrochloride for anxiety, sumatriptan succinate for migraines, zopiclone for sleep, I've been told I can take the trazodone with zopiclone, but I have the new sumatriptan tablets, it says in the medical pamphlet that it is an MAO-A inhibitor and can't be taken with antidepressants/anxiety tablets.
Would it be ok to take both the trazodone hydrochloride and the sumatriptin succinate together?
have you tryed sumatriptan for the pain? i have the same thing your describing, but i do have periods of remmission.. maybe only a few hours at the most. for the most part i take sumatriptan for the pain. i have no idea why it works but it works for me. if you've been on it than maybe it doesnt work, but if you havent been on it, ask your doc about it. hope any of this helps!
There are some types of migraine that present with numbness also and even with the absence of headache and presence of just aura symptoms like sensitivity to light and sound, nausea or vomiting. Was the sumatriptan effective in reducing the pain? Check with your doctor if it does not improve for proper evaluation. Take care always.
The IRBB does not usually cause chest pain by itself, but can be seen in the setting of a heart attack by infarcting part of the right bundle. The amitriptyline does have anticholinergic effects and can cause coronary ischemia in patients following heart attacks. How sure are you that the pain you had was secondary to esophageal spasm and not heart disease?
Apo-Indomethacin and Pms-Sumatriptan was prescribed to me by my doctor. I am also on progesterin to help reduce the amount of headaches, I have been using nasal sprays as well. Month six, no change. Blood tests shows no diabetes, Thyroid, liver or kidney problems. I have been sleeping about 13-14 hours a day. I have a swollen gland on the left side of the back of my neck and has been swollen for about five years, I don't know if it is related.
I use to take amitriptyline and have some pharmacy background. I suggest no drinking with amitriptyline to be on the safe side. Amitriptyline plus alcohol could equal respiratory depression, which means possible passing out or in fatal cases even death. It's just not worth the possible complication even if it is only a 0.10% chance of happening.
t think I have that. She prescribed me amitriptyline 25mg for pain and sleep. I finally broke down last night and took a half a 25mg pill. I'm terrified of taking another pill and just want to be clean. Anyway it helped with sleep and frequency. I get up several times some nights. Last night only once it was great. Sorry for the rambling. I hate the side effect of this pill. I was so spacey all morning. Does anyone here have any experience with this pill?
The doctor prescribed amitriptyline about two weeks ago...She has had no relief from the pain and cannot stay awake, has dry mouth and her vision is blurry. Can she stop taking the medication cold turkey (since she has only been on it for two weeks) and how long does it usually take to get any pain relief from this medication.
m having the same problems right now -- I had a tooth pulled a few months ago and a cavity filled recently right near it over a month ago, and my whole mouth hurts and so far nobody has found a reason. But I'm already on antidepressants and a benzo for my anxiety problem and it ain't helping my teeth a bit, if you get my drift, and like you it's driving me nuts.
I was on Amitriptyline-150mg and Topamax 100mg for at least a year for headaches. Within the last three months I was put on Lexapro 10mg and Allerx PE also for my headaches. My headaches are beginning to become under control with steroid injections and I am about to have sinus surgery. My concern is that in the past year I have gained 35lbs. I am a very active person who works out and also watches what I eat. I don't know what to do.
I should also note that the very first time i started getting these facial pain attacks, my first doctor thought it was migraines and prescribed me Sumatriptan. And the sumatriptan did take the pain away. And I have learned that sumatriptan helps with cluster headaches. Is there any other trigeminal neuralgia sufferers out there, who suffer the same symptoms as I do? Help me please I am very confused about this condition!!!
