Avatar n tn Before that, she had been on 2 grains of Armour, but forced to switch due to reformulation of Armour brand and sudden hypo symptoms with a drop in t4 that Armour reformulation caused her. Before going with dessicated thyroid 8 months ago however ,she was on 100mcg Synthroid daily.

Avatar n tn An option here called ERFA, while initially touted to be a great alternative, has now had a reformulation that has had endless adverse effects. Research has brought up two alternatives, both combinations of t4/T3 called Euthyral or Novothyral. Has anyone heard of them? Bigger question, can anyone at all, private message me, with a way to order through an online pharmacy? I fought too hard to feel normal, to return to generic medications that will make me ill.
Avatar f tn Thanks, Gimel...After I posted that I realized Armour was probably all that was left. I crashed on that back in it's reformulation days just over 10 years ago so I'm a little afraid (the fillers also) I'm not really sure what a T#/T4 generic even is but I'll check it out! I'm wondering how folks on Armour these days are doing on it. Med changes are the worst! Thank you!
Avatar f tn Many people who stayed with Armour after the reformulation of their product's fillers/binders about a year ago noticed the return of hypothyroid symptoms (fatigue, joint pain, hairloss etc.) and a much lower t4 level then they had on Armour before reformulation. Many changed to Nature-Throid which is the other desiccated med available in the US. most did well on this but unfortunatly the formula for this med was recently changed to in a similar way this spring.
Avatar f tn Hi all. I'm new here and confused. I have been hypo for over twenty years due to RAI (Grave's), and lately things are getting messed up. Actually, since the 2009 reformulation of Armour have I started feeling so damn awful. I bounced around with Westhroid, back to Armour, then Synthroid for awhile, then back. A year ago when I was pregnant my TSH was 38 - so I had swung very hypo.
7463086 tn?1391008763 However I do think the latter is significantly lessened with vigilant injection site rotation. And now with the reformulation meaning fewer than half of the injections in the first place, I imagine the risk goes down even further. Another reason the news you mention is great! There are loads of past and present users on here. I'm sure they'll stop by too.
1401696 tn?1280838616 Most people take dessicated (or anything with T3) 2 x per day. First thing in the morning is easy. Planning the second dose 1 hour before lunch or 4 hours after can be a challenge sometimes. Remember, It really takes 6 weeks or more for the full effect of a new med. What makes you feel good this week, could make you hyper the next if you dont know how a med works for you as far as dosing goes. Make sure free T3 and free T4 is tested while on NT.
Avatar n tn Lescol and Crestor which are unaffected by grapefruit.
Avatar f tn s out of favor at the moment due to reformulation quality issues), ERFA (from Canada), Nature Thyroid, and it can also be available from some compounding chemists. I take the erfa brand and I feel good. Way better than when I took thyroxine (t4 only med). Some people do better on this and some do fine on just T4 meds, another alternative is taking a T3 and a T4 med.
776302 tn?1241091853 I don't use Armour, but I know there are some on this forum that DO take it. I believe they ARE still making it, although there was a reformulation and it's been harder to get. I'm sure someone who's been using it, will be along soon to answer your question for sure.
Avatar f tn ) production has been suspended by the FDA due to reformulation/ FDA protocol issues. They changed the fillers/binders for some unknown reason and many long time users started having hypo symptoms on it. Many people have switched to Nature- throid and Westhroid (RLC Labs Pharm. Co.). There porcine dessicated hormone is doing fine for users nothing has been changed and they are not in trouble with the FDA.
734073 tn?1278896325 Switched from a life time of Synthroid to Armour 5 months ago. I did not know of the reformulation problems until after we made the change. She was doing well until this last medication refill, about a month ago. We must have finally gotten a refill of the new Armour formula, because soon (within a week) after taking the refill, she began having severe joint aches(ankles, knees ,wrist and fingers). She has had musle cramps from time to time, but has never had joint pain before now.
Avatar n tn There are people who have had issues with Armour after the reformulation last year or the year before
Avatar f tn Just so you know-Armour was reformulated last year and recently the other U.S. desiccated brand (Nature-Throid) has followed. These meds have changed their fillers and binders and some here have had issues with the new formulas. My daughter was born without a thyroid gland. We are now using Canadian Erfa desiccated thyroid and doing well. It is like Armour's old (good) formula, before reformulation. If you decide to go with desiccated-then you should talk to the N.P.
Avatar f tn I have been on 37.5mcg of Synthroid and 5 mcg of Cytomel , I was on Armour before reformulation and felt terrific for the 17 yrs I was on it. I have been on this Cytomel & Synthroid combo for 4 yrs and I have notice I feel like I am craving the cytomel . I have been trying to get back on Armour but the Cytome is playing on my head. and I can't seem to get myself to change.. Anybody else feel this way??
Avatar f tn on the latest bottles of my pills and wonder if the reformulation change has caused me a problem. I am sensitive to some meds and wonder if it may also be due to fillers, binders and changes of manufacturers when on generic. The most uncomfortable side effect is the difficulty in breathing while on Levothroid, Unithroid and Levoxyl. I don't know what to do. Obviously I HAVE to be on thyroid medication but can't tolerate the side effects anymore!
Avatar f tn I recently had my first appointment with the MD/alternative doctor. It went super great! He's a very warm, caring, kind doctor and he is very passionate about health and getting better. Several times in my visit he said we'll get me better. I felt very cared about and like we were finally going to make some progress. He was very thorough with my medical papers and symptom intake, etc. He also carried out a physical exam more thorough than other doctors have done.
Avatar m tn I hate opana ER, especially the reformulation. I take them as prescribed with little to no pain relief and terrible side effects. They tear up my stomach and give me horrible indigestion. Yet, my DR wont switch me to something different.
Avatar f tn ve been feeling tired and getting headaches (similar to when hypo) and concerned over the recent reformulation of armour. My TSH came back as 1.31 up from 0.60 at the 6 week test. My FT3 was 3.1 (sorry I don't have the reference range but it was within the normal range) but the FT4 was 0.54 and the nurse said the low end of the reference range was 0.58. She said since I was only slightly out of range that she didn't think anything needed to change.
Avatar f tn I have not been doing well on T3 (my Reverse T3 is very minimal though now so that is good) and did great on Armour before the 09 reformulation. I did ok on NatureThroid until it was reformulated too. I tried ERFA and did ok but still not great. Old dr. found high RT3 and I went on Cytomel to reduce it but I seem to go hyper very very easily now on it. So confused! New Dr.
734073 tn?1278896325 Is the FDA truly trying to protect us, the unsuspecting consumer, from any health effects that unapproved reformulation could cause us? Or, has the FDA just been lurking in the bushes, waiting for just such an opportunity, as an attempt to get drugs off the market that have no PATENT and make no MONEY for the bigger, lobby paying, drug companies that make the synthetic t4 thyroid medications? I know what I believe? (see my last 2 posts to tracey123 if you are interested) What do you believe?
Avatar f tn Lots of people (who swore by Armour for years) on the forum think it was completely ruined in the reformulation last spring. The reformulation is a good part of what caused the shortage and it was at least nationwide.
