Common Questions and Answers about Suboxone with xanax

suboxone

Avatar n tn Is it OK for an oxy abuser to take xanax with suboxone to calm down anger and short temperment ?
Avatar m tn Ive been taking 5-6 750mg vicoden for 2 years and 1 1/2mg of xanax for about 5 yrs.. I have severe back pain and severe anxiety. I have recently noticed rapid weight loss and no apetite. Ive lost about 20lbs in a couple months and a pound daily. I am now concerned about liver problems.. history of kidney stones so i thought the pain was kidney stone related, but more now points to liver. I feel I need to stop tonight, and really scared for my health. im 26 yrs old with a family of 4.
Avatar m tn I was bouncing back and fort with klonopin to xanax, back to klonopin..and back to xanax, I dove my Dr. crazy!!!and he told me..THAT'S IT..NO MORE CHANGING YOUR MEDS!!!! Like i said, he doesn't know about what I'm trying to do, I'm doing it for this psychiatrist who is prescribing SUBOXONE, i been on suboxone for 3 years...my clinic closed, i got referred to this guy who does not prescribing suboxone with anybody on benzo's.
Avatar f tn On 1/26/10 he was admitted to a program to take him off the Suboxone. Initially they tried to take him off the Suboxone and Xanax at the same time. They substitued Valium for Xanax, but he did not do well so they put him back on Xanax. He did not taper off the Suboxone, they took him off cold turkey. He was in rehab for 16 days when our insurance said "no more", so he came home. It is now 2/14/20 and he is still shaking, anxious and very ill.
Avatar n tn I'd echo everything that MSDelight said & asked. I'd also add that increasing your dose of Subs will not result in less anxiety or more euphoria (there's a ceiling dose & you're past it). However, it will most likely exacerbate some of the nasty side effects that folks experience @ high doses of Subs. I'd also echo pillguy's question about the Xanax. It's contra-indicated with subs.
Avatar f tn Why in the world have you been on suboxone for 3 years? And why are you taking Xanax while you are on Subs? Taking benzodiazepines with opiate drugs is a dangerous thing to do. That combo can cause severe respiratory depression and in some cases- especially with Buprenorphine- a reaction resulting in voluntary respiratory failure.
Avatar f tn I asked this question not so long ago, but does subutex/suboxone make benzodiazepines less effective. I know you are not supposed to take it together, but it was prescribed by my neurologist. It is something I noticed.
Avatar f tn I feel for you. Hopefully you found an alternative to the Xanax for anxiety if that is the issue. Managing pain and the issues of anxiety or depression is so hard and I'm sorry you have been going through this. I'm here to talk to you if you need it. sending you hugs.
Avatar f tn 25mg of xanax for a short time and it was fine. The danger with xanax and suboxone is when the xanax is abused and taken at much higher doses, so I would not recommend doing that. I guess the question I would ask is do you really want to be clean? If so, keep working with your doctor, follow his instructions and take the subutex as directed - stay away from the other pills. Get some other support through an NA meeting or from others on this site.
Avatar m tn The anxiety may not be from the Suboxone. I suggest that you post in the Anxiety Community for one and speak with your prescribing doctor. It is possible that your medication may need to be adjusted. I hope this all works out for you.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone! I have been taking suboxone for almost 2 years as well as xanax for extreme anxiety, I am now 20 weeks pregnant and I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing for my baby.
Avatar n tn Suboxone will not generally cause severe respiratory depression alone, but in combination with benzodiazepines like xanax, or with alcohol, there can be severe and potentially fatal respiratory depression-- particularly in a person with sleep apnea! He is on a dangerous combination, and engaging in dangerous behavior. He is also back in 'using' mode, which as you know too well destroys any chance for intimacy between the addict and other people.
Avatar f tn I may not be the best guy to talk with about pills because they were not my drug of choice, but i do know xanax w/d's are horrible and if taking a lot should not be c/t. Please be careful with suboxone, do your research, you will get a lot of feedback from others here on sub. Stick around and come up with a plan to stay clean. Since he will understand I think it's best you tell him. You are lucky to get support and have him helping you.
Avatar m tn I totally agree with Tommmm.. Be very careful with the suboxone or any other opiates. I have never suffered depression but got hit with a huge, almost debilitating bout of depression when quitting suboxone. Thankfully, I was able to pull out of it, but I am sure that if it could create depression for me, it can make it much worse for someone who truly does suffer from it. Keep trying different non opiate medications.
Avatar f tn I've been taking suboxone for a little over 2 years now and am about to prepare for my wean. I've also been on 4 mg of Xanax for about 6 months now (sometimes a little more) to help me sleep while weaning on the sub. I read a post earlier that coming off Xanax is much worse than suboxone which I find really really hard to believe as I've tried to come off suboxone before and felt worse than I've ever felt in my life with the w/d symptoms. So, it didn't work out.
Avatar m tn I told my primary doctor. he gave me 5mg. of xanax. Is that going to help? or will I get addicted to that also? Can anybody answer me that?
Avatar m tn The claim that 'Suboxone is an opiate for an opiate' is heard at amateur discussion boards, but it is entirely inaccurate. Buprenorphine is a partial agonist with a ceiling effect, and is given at ultra-high levels i.e. far about the 'ceiling'-- the result is a direct reduction in craving that is not experienced with opiate agonists.
Avatar m tn You're already on methadone and you really can't begin SUBOXONE until you're down to at least 30mg per day of methadone; last I knew. When you see the doctor tomorrow, tell him you prefer to taper the methadone...if that's what you truly want. But as I said, you need to taper down to 30 mg anyway and that's well documented.
Avatar f tn Again, I would be shocked to find out that the Suboxone doctor was okay with the Xanax, especially at such a significant daily dose. Glad you found us!!
Avatar m tn I would really appreciate it if someone could try to help me figure out what's going on with me right now. I had a bad vicodin addiction for about a year, detoxed, relapsed and detoxed numerous times over the following year, and over the last 2 months I've been taking about 5 norcos a day on average. I also take soma for my neck and xanax for anxiety/sleep. I ran out of norcos but didn't care b/c i wanted to detox anyway.
Avatar n tn My husband is trying to detox with suboxone and we need to know if he can take it safely. Also, the suboxone doesn't seem to be taking away his withdrawls, he is antsy, has rls, hot and cold, sneezing, nauseaus, very very sick. He has been taking 24-32mg of suboxone and I thought that was a really high dose. He was on about 900mg of oxycodone a day, so maybe that has something to do with it? Anyone please help! Thank you so much in advance!
884943 tn?1241659398 I am 38, male who has been on 8mg of suboxone now for 4 years, the 3 years prior 24 mg a day and from 2003-2007 took 20 norcos 10/325 hydrocodeine, as well as methodose pills, soma, and 24 Xanax pills. I dropped out of 2 rehabs but in 2007 with the aid of a friend was able to get off everything and start suboxone. I lost my insurance and last Friday was the last time I took a sublingual 8mg sheet. Now, I see that if you read all the rants on the internet, it will be worse.
1154564 tn?1278812417 correct i did still self medicate im just using the suboxone for the first 3-5 days to get through the worst part and the withdrawals from low doses of suboxone and naxalone are not as bad as oxy. The xanax is simply to help with the anxiety. I cannot go to the doctor or my family about this one.

Avatar n tn Had a few drinks... (never had a problem with drinking)... took some advil with me and 1 2mg xanax.... came home with all of my advil and 2mg of xanax.... The only time I thought about the devil pills was when I didn't have the energy to walk the strip...but I powered through it. I am not sure about the "intense" desire to relapse...that was suppposed to come in week three.... well... week three is up for me tomorrow and I have had no desire.... If you like HipHop....
