Suboxone vs percocet

Common Questions and Answers about Suboxone vs percocet

suboxone

Avatar m tn I'm back again. Tried quitting CT several times, made it 4 days, than 7 days, most recently 3 days. At this point I know it is not a mental addicition, but I can't take the damn withdrawls, they just kill me. At this point I've decided that I either need to go the Suboxone route or I need to try one of these anesthesia assisted rapid withdrawl programs. Does anyone have any insight as to which one is going to allow me to continue my life as quickly as possible.
Avatar m tn Why are you switching to Percocet after taking Sub, which leans toward helping you get off of the Percocet?
Avatar n tn I have dental surgery coming up and was told by the DR I would be on percocet after the fact. I do not see a DR for the suboxone, lets just say I regulated myself on the dose. I have researched every where and cannot find a clear cut answer as to how long it will take to feel the effects of the percocet.... I just do not want to be in pain. Some people (Rph) have said that its up to 17days?? and others i have read say 36-48hrs. Please help?
Avatar f tn I have been on 4-10mg. percocet for 5 months and about 5 days ago I decided I was sick of taking the meds and spending the money so I drastically cut them to where I am only on 1 1/2 pill a day. Yes, I have had withdrawal symptons but I am determined to quit this vicious cycle. Has anyone had a similar experience. I also take a 10 mg. valium a day.

Avatar f tn Tom is correct - suboxone is to detox off the percocet. If he takes the suboxone while he is still taking percocet, it could put him into withdrawal. Suboxone is also designed to take once daily, not multiple times per day. 8 mg should be fine for the first week to detox, then as Tom said, taper down, cut the pill in quarters and have your husband take 3/4 for a few days, then go do half for about a week, then go to 1/4, and then 1/8 if you can cut it that small.
Avatar f tn Your other medications are in no way contraindicated as a combination. The only difference between Percocet and Suboxone is that Percocet is a pure opiate whereas the Suboxone is an opioid receptor antagonist as well. My question to you is whether you trust your doctor and if not, why not? You need to decide if you want to continue to take his/her advice. Nothing in what the doctor recommended was questionable, so what is it that leads you to be nervous? Is s/he not open to your questions?
Avatar n tn I Percocet was working fine my doctor thought suboxone would be better because it’s a 24 hour drug.
Avatar m tn Then there was the dark side to them. They have their own addiction which is by far worse than the origional addiction to Percocet. When they run out the withdrawal is WEEKS instead of days. Let alone the risk of accidental overdose when mixing with alcohol or other drugs. So, I searched around and have found buprenorphine (Subutex/Suboxone). It so far seems to be a miracle drug. The withdrawal seems MUCH less severe and shorter than methadone, as well as being generally safer.
Avatar n tn Ok well here is my story.. have an addiction to percocet but have been doing well..Started taking suboxone a year ago..Came off 1/4 of a 2mg and was feeling pretty bad with withdrawls ..to my surprise!! I was told the small dosage I was on, I would feel very lil wd's.. yeah right! anyway i read somewhere that taking percocet will help with the wd's..i know..STUPID!! So I took percocet 4 a week, and 2 pills 4 x a day.. of 10/325.. Now tis is 48 hours and I am in terrible wd's!!
562575 tn?1217292335 you need to step down the narcotic ladder. I stopped getting suboxone. got some Percocet.. Took that for about a week. Felt kinda crappy but could sleep and go to work. Then stepped down to codeine for about a week. Still felt kinda crappy but very bearable at this point.. Really your just kinda like this ***** but you can do whatever you want short of playing sports.. Can just kick it and watch TV and not be all depressed.. Then.. I discovered the best drug to step down from there..
Avatar f tn DO NOT MIX suboxone with Percocet! If you take the sub first the percs won't have any effect. But if you take the percs then sub you will go into withdrawal immediately. I started on the pills and moved to the film with no problem. Suboxone is buprenorphine and nalaxone, whether in pill or strip form. So if you've been taking the pill form of sub the strip is no different. If you are allergic to nalaxone get with your doctor and maybe subutex is a better option for you.
Avatar f tn On Suboxone or Subutex, you will have your 'tolerance' set at a level equal to about 50 mg of oxycodone per 24 hours. If you were on a dose of oxycodone or other opiates equivalent to significantly more than that, there will be an adjustment period for your tolerance to come down to that level. Sometimes it can be hard to tell whether a person is in withdrawal vs 'narcotized' (the opposite of withdrawal). The easiest way to tell is to look at the pupils in a dimly-lit room.
Avatar m tn Hi, I've been an on/off opiate user for many years. I know with regular opiates, I'd wake up sick the next day and I know with suboxone only, the half life would make it so I had plenty of time to get more so that I wouldn't get sick. I've went bouts of 50 plus hours off of them before and would start feeling withdrawals. I was unable to have enough will power to taper off suboxone correctly. I decided I'd use 30mg percocet to aid my suboxone withdrawal.
Avatar m tn Yes, you took that Sub too soon after the Percocet. Generally, you must be in moderate wd's before you take suboxone. I'm not sure why you did this and I don't recommend taking anymore sub. You'll just have to struggle through while the sub wears off and it may be several more hours from now. It has a longer half life than most opiates other than methadone. Also, if you decide to take some more Percocet, you may not feel any effect because the sub will block it.
Avatar m tn Ok, so I am ready to stop the percocet but need some advise. I have been taking 2-4 percocets per day for about a year. Like most people I try and stop and can only last a couple days. My question is besides cold turkey is there a method out there that works? Is there other meds available to stop the cravings? what damage have I may already done to my brain/ organs Thanks in advance for your responses.
1536087 tn?1292526415 My problem now is i fear taking suboxone because i feel it is more toxic to the baby then the percocet. Also i am scared to tell the doctors because i dont know what they might do.
1085335 tn?1256444845 How much and how long have you been abusing percocet? Methadone is like suboxone in terms of help with witthdrawl but is also addicting and used for pain so that would be something to think about also. Only a doctor can tell you wich route would be best. I wouldn contact a suboxone doctor, the methadone clinic, your primary and think long and hard before makin any decison to go on any other med. Addiction is a disease and its best to find seek treatment from those who are qualified to treat it.
Avatar n tn what should u do if u were taking 4 percocet 10s for 2 months then didnt wait more than 4 hours after eating percocet before the first 2mg of suboxone . i kind of feel like im going through withdraw while on suboxone. should i stop the suboxin and go back on the 10s and just try and ween off the tens. i dont really have a clue ive never tried suboxone before one of my friends gave it to me but neglected to tell me to wait 24hrs and to wait until withdraw already sets in before taking it.
893913 tn?1245510893 Hi there!!! Ok....first of all. I am so proud of you. I am on the same thing!!! I was taking 7 pills.....4 to 5 times a DAY. Thst's 28 to 35 pills a day. How many are you taking in a day???? I have tried sooooooo many times to get OFF this ****. I couldn't.....because I couldn't take how I was feeling. So you are sooooo much more stronger then I am. Nobody knew I was on these. Not even my husband and 4 kids. I drained our bank accounts. We are in soooo much debt.
1462755 tn?1286048715 I called the doctor, made an appointment and within 2 hours I was picking up a RX for 90 Percocet. That was August 23 by September 20 I got a refill. I took the first 90 within 10 days and went through withdrawals and hated myself for doing that again. I counted the minutes until that next appointment and needless to say that RX only lasted 10 days again. For the past 5 months I have been seeing a therapist and I have not been honest with her about this relapse.
Avatar n tn if you are not abusing you pain meds then i don't think suboxone is the right choice at all for you. it is mainly used for relapse prevention. it's does little for pain. i have a friend who is on pain med yet does not abuse. when he becomes tolerant, he has his doctor switch him to a different medicine rather than up his dose. he absolutely refuses to be put on oxycontin. it is my understanding that withdrawing from suboxone is very very hard and long lasting.
Avatar f tn i have chronic back pain too. got hooked on hydrocodone for 4 years. kicked it 2 years ago. this is how i looked at it. there is no miracle pill to make it all better. so the sooner we accept that , the better. the doctors are a bunch of useless information they have had crammed down their throats. i researched and climate and humidity can really affect pain. i moved to the desert. phoenix and it has helped my pain tremendously. if they can operate on you, than that is something.
