Suboxone methadone conversion

Common Questions and Answers about Suboxone methadone conversion

suboxone

Avatar f tn I too was a 20 year methadone patient. I have tried numerous times to switch to suboxone. On suboxone I cannot sleep, I have extremem anxiety, and I have no energy. I am not sick but I do not feel normal. I have been told by the manufacturer that this is a common complaint from long term methadone maintenance patients. I suggest you return to methadone. Follow your own bodies advice and ignore the rest. Only you know how your body functions and reacts to medication.
Avatar m tn Hi I just happened to see your post, it hasn't been answered. I don't have a great answer but there is a conversion chart from Suboxone to Methadone, you can search it out. At the same time, from everything I have read if you were going from 30 mg of Methadone to 12mg sub it would be ok, the opposite is not true. Suboxone is much stronger than other opiates so you would want to do the conversion yourself before the doctor switches you.
Avatar m tn I was just wondering how much methadone is equvalent to how much suboxone?
Avatar n tn methadone is cheap and the exalgo and suboxone are both EXPENSIVE! 16mg of exalgo daily for 30days is $600 without insurance here in nebraska! where methadone is like $15 dollars a month. I liked methadone alot for pain management very little withdrawl symptoms but I ended up with a fatal heart arrythmia because of the methadone. I would slip into PVC's premature ventricular contractions which can lead to ventricular fibbrilation which leads to death!!
862936 tn?1239553570 For example Im down to 1/2 a 8-2mg suboxone a day. Just want to know how many milligrams of methadone that is equal to.
Avatar f tn question: if 1 mg of suboxone is equal to 20-30 mgs of hydrocodone would that be the same for oxycontin would 1 mg of sub be equal to 20-30 mgs oxy then?
Avatar m tn (and FYI, bupe is the nickname for the drug in suboxone/subutex) http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn m really not sure of the exact conversion but I do know methadone is a good deal stronger than oxycodone. I do believe that it would be possible to take methadone with oxycodone for break-through pain if your doctor prescribes it at your next appt. One of our Community Leaders posted a medication conversion chart in her journal. It's handy for getting an idea of the equivalency of different pain meds.
Avatar m tn If you took some Methadone after taking Suboxone...that's why you feel so sick. Now that you've taken Suboxone, the Methadone will not work. Never take opiates when you're taking Suboxone, okay?
Avatar m tn Hello. I also used suboxone briefly as a way to minimise the severity of methadone withdrawals. I had initially spent almost 7 months tapering down my methadone dose below 30mgs (I got it down to 22.5mgs) which is considered the highest methadone dose for successful conversion. In the end I only spent 2 weeks on suboxone but it was really an 8 month taper in total .
Avatar m tn ll look up the conversion, but every body is different and want to be safe. Seven days without methadone seems short to me. I'd rather be in the office, but options are limited in the mountains of Northern Cali. The stories I read have probably mad me paranoid.
Avatar n tn If you are having such a hard time of it on the Suboxone then going back on the Methadone may be the best choice for you. Im curious why you transitioned from Methadone to Suboxone in the first place. You wont go into precipitated withdrawals going from Suboxone to Methadone. That only happens going the other way.
Avatar f tn Are you saying you are considering getting on Methadone to get off of Suboxone?? Using Methadone for almost any addiction, except possibly Heroin, is really jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. Methadone has a place for very hard core Heroin addicts but almost every other drugs can be stopped with far less drastic measures. Check out Sadinmichigan journal and see what others have gone through when trying to come off of Methadone. Wishing you all the best.
Avatar m tn I have worked my way down to 25mg of methadone. Alot of people have told me that suboxone is the way to go. Some people told me you have to be down to at least 30-40mg of methadone to get on suboxone so you won't go thru any withdrawls, and some have told me that you can not take any methadone for 48 hours before taking the suboxone, cause it will make you sick. Do you have an answer?
Avatar n tn so im thinking about quitting the methadone and moving to suboxone how long should i wait to start takin the suboxone?
Avatar m tn You're already on methadone and you really can't begin SUBOXONE until you're down to at least 30mg per day of methadone; last I knew. When you see the doctor tomorrow, tell him you prefer to taper the methadone...if that's what you truly want. But as I said, you need to taper down to 30 mg anyway and that's well documented.
Avatar f tn As a point of comparison I charge $2,000 for a detox from OxyContin or methadone, taking about three weeks. A detox from Suboxone dependence costs $5,000 because it takes four to five months, incorporating about 10 different medications to detox the patient successfully. The success rate for detox from Suboxone is much lower than that for detox from other opiates because patients tend to give up hope during the lengthy withdrawal process.
Avatar n tn Im not sure how long its been since your dose of suboxone, but it always took me about 1hr before I would feel its effects. I was on methadone before going to sub, tapered down from 140mgs-30mgs, then started at 8mgs/suboxone. Im not really sure how methadone compares to morphine milligram wise, but if it doesnt help then talk to your doctor about adjusting your dose. You cant expect to feel great, but it should hold off the w/d's and cravings.
Avatar f tn What's your current dose of methadone? How long is this "detox" supposed to last? I'm not very knowledgable about suboxone being used as a detox agent as opposed to long term opiate replacement therapy. I'm going to do some reading about the current thinking on using suboxone short term to detox. Suboxone is very addictive and you're not going to hear much good about it here. That doesn't necessarily mean it can't work for short term detox.
Avatar n tn Ok I am on suboxone now and was once on methadone and also I am pregnant. I mean it's best to be on nothing while pregnant but some just can't do that without being extremely sick. From what I've read methadone has been studied for years and has been proven to have no danger to a baby accept that your baby will likely go through withdrawl and you might even have to give it morphine when it comes home.
Avatar m tn Can any MD in the state of Florida prescribe Methadone? I have been on Suboxone since 2009 and it helped me get of a high dose of Roxicodone thank god. I am on 8mgs a day and have herniated, buldging, degenitive discs with a sever reverse curve in my neck. My C4.C5. C6. C7 are all whacked and some days it kills me!! I use to get sealed bottles of 100 40mg diskettes of methadone ten years ago with ease from a General Practioner.
Avatar f tn I just wanted to respond to feohmans comment about doctors/anyone advising people to switch from methadone to suboxone in order to detox off of methadone. I think most informed medical proffesionals do this is because short suboxone detox's have been shown to mitigate the severity of methadone withdrawals considerably. I know from my own experience that as i tapered down off of my methadone dose i had periods of extreme discomfort.
