Suboxone for pain treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Suboxone for pain treatment

suboxone

Avatar f tn You do not need a special "license" to treat patients with suboxone for chronic pain. You do need a special "license" to treat patients with suboxone for opiate dependence. In order to treat addiction patients with suboxone, a doctor needs to complete an 8 hour class in addiction treatment and then they are granted a federal waiver in order or prescribe it for addiction treatment. A quick google search will tell you, or your doctor about this.
1476285 tn?1287337784 I am interested in info from anyone doing the new 3-drug regime w/ interferon, ribavirin and telaprevir who are also taking suboxone. I am currently on suboxone: 3/5's to 1/2 tab per day. I wasn't put on it for drug abuse but I was on pain meds (lortab & fentenayl patch) for chronic pain. I went on suboxone to get off the pain mgmt regime.
Avatar f tn Even if you were taking percocets, I would still tell you that suboxone is a lot smarter choice for you as far as a treatment program goes for you. Methadone is very addictive, suboxone is a swell, but it takes longer, and the withdrawals are a little milder than methadone. Methadone wd's are by far the worst out of any opiate/opioid out there. Both suboxone and methadone last a long time compared to norcos or percs, whereas they last for 4-6 hrs.
Avatar f tn wow I will tell you this suboxone is NOT AT ALL FOR PAIN. I know I tried suboxone and I have true pain and it did nothing for my pain and I also know others that have tried also and same nothing for pain. He should have told you why switch if you ask me something is up and he thinks you have some kind of problem he the only doctor you go to....Something is not being told make no sense at all.
Avatar m tn //www.naabt.org they will offer you support and a treatment locator is also , Opiate addiction is a treatable chronic disease of the brain.
1349676 tn?1277912449 I've been on Suboxone for 18 months now, I'm in the maintenance phase of treatment, for heroin, vicodin, oxycontin & fentynol (sp?). I have found it to be a lifesaver - I had barely any withdrawal symptoms, and it actually made me feel better than any of those drugs did. At first, I took 3 8mg subs a day to help curb cravings & help with any symptoms. Now, I've been clean since February 2009 but I'm still an addict because I'm addicted to xanax for anxiety!
851412 tn?1239075618 if anybody knows of any medications that help during the suboxone treatment for the leg cramps.please let me know,so i can ask my doctor to prescribe them to me.
Avatar f tn Are you gonna go to rehab or do you just plan on getting on suboxone? I'm not sure if it's an option for you but since your brother went to rehab I'm guessing the option is there for you. If so, I would do an inpatient rehab and pass on suboxone unless all else fails. Suboxone can be a lifesaver and I don't think there is anything wrong with it. Just be sure to do plenty of research and realize you will have to withdrawal from it unless you plan to stay on it forever.
Avatar m tn And although my dr says i need 6 a day from my disease i am going to go as low as i can to see how the pain will do and see if there is any vitamins i can take to make the pain better. I heard the l-throzine is good for energy and subside the pain, but i can only take that for a little bit because i need to start back on my anti-depressants and you can't mix the two. I'm glad by 7 months you realize you needed to be off the stuff.
Avatar f tn my hubby is addicted to pain pills. he came home from treatment yesterday and has been prescribed suboxone. his treatment plan is as follows: he takes 4 mg. 3x a day. he has to go to therapy @ the treatment center once a week and see a dr. about his dose and have a drug test, and he has to attend 5 AA/NA meetings a week. the plan seems like a good one to me and i know it will be a long process.
Avatar m tn And God forbid you ever need serious pain relief, once you take suboxone you will never get pain relief from hydros or percs or any of the like.
Avatar f tn The Suboxone treatment, do you have to be completely clean to start the treatment????
1227909 tn?1267853479 I took suboxone for all 72 weeks of treatment. Finally got to SVR and have been cured for three years now. I didn't take the tele - just did regular old SOC. Now I'm on subutex trying to wean off all the Subs after about 7 years.........not so easy to do as it appears and I'm really in no rush to go through all the pain of that! I'm sure you can relate! But yes it is possible to succeed taking the meds together.
Avatar f tn I took Suboxone for 10 days to detox off of pain meds. I have been off of that as well as pain meds for almost 10 months now. How long will they be keeping him of the Sub?
478417 tn?1208547207 just make sure your sub doctor and your surgeon are aware of the fact that you are taking suboxone for treatment for your recovery...have them talk with each other for a good plan for you...its the best way. as far as non-narcotic pain relievers i know neurontin/lyrica is ok, but i really am quite sure this wont help you with your toe, lol...the only things i take other than that with my suboxone is advil or tylenol, heating pad or bag of frozen peas...lol!
Avatar m tn The confusion here may be that Suboxone and Subutex are generally prescribed to treat addiction and not normally considered for pain management. Suboxone and Subutex are two drugs that have been approved by the FDA for the treatment of opiate addiction. Both medications contain the main active ingredient Buprenorphine which stops the craving and withdrawal symptoms as well as it is a partial agonist. However Subutex does not contain an additional ingredient which is called Naloxone.
Avatar n tn A doctor DOES NOT need special certification to prescribe Subutex for PAIN. There is a toll free no for the DEA that is dedicated to Suboxone/Subutex questions. You can call it to verify this info.
Avatar f tn Boith drugs have a long half life so a long wd period, both drugs are narcotics...sub being the stronger of the two drugs mg for mg. Methadone is approved for pain relief in the US, sub is not. Main thing is she gets clean...neither drug is a miracle worker so if someone tells u so, dont listen.
468408 tn?1208433009 I'm am on Suboxone. But, I am not "all for" someone using Suboxone like suboxone.com. But, it can definately be a life saver. It has helped more people than it has hurt, but the chance of becoming dependant on it is a risk you have to seriously think about taking. I really have never understood why any doctor would ever tell a patient that they may need to take Suboxone for a real long time, yet alone for life.
Avatar f tn yes the subutex is to treat pain. When I first got clean 11 months ago I went off everything. After about 5 months of being in and out of hospitals and using short acting pain meds (my husband issued them to me as needed) my docs thought subutex was a better solution. It works well --but like I said --I have guilt.
179856 tn?1333547362 For someone like me who has been on suboxone for the last six or seven years.......this is an amazing news article. Maybe I won't have to continue paying a shrink hundreds of dollars a month to prescribe the bupe for me and could actually get it from a PCP with my insurance. Boy that would be awesome I hope this helps somebody else out whose been drug free for many years but not 'really' drug free after all.
Avatar n tn Has anyone else here gone on the suboxone for chronic pain relief. This is what my doc is using it for on me-I see most of you are on it for detox....I was wanting of fthe dilaudud as I was afraid of becoming addicted.(And was constipated all the time so he put me on naltrexone for the chronic constipation I was on.Ended up in hospital 4-6x for this.,the naltrexone worked great to help me go also using the miralax as added supplement.
Avatar n tn I have been off of Sub for 11 days now. The pain keeps coming but I can feel the light at the end of the tunnel. Below is a message from Dr. Scanlan that may help people choose. One addiction is potentially being traded for another as the FDA-approved detoxification drug Suboxone is becoming one of the most prescribed medications in the country. Known as the “miracle drug,” Suboxone is estimated to be 25 times more potent than morphine. Steve headshot.
Avatar n tn detox, add suboxone, and add an anti-depressant. (I personally have been taking Paxil for 20+ years for depression. Can't function without it, but no major side effects either) We're hoping for the best......
