Suboxone and pain management

Common Questions and Answers about Suboxone and pain management

suboxone

Avatar n tn Hi there. It depends. Its deifnitely something to discuss with your suboxone doctor. Why do you ask? Have you been prescribed pain pills? Does the doctor know your on suboxone? Generally you will not feel any pain relief from any narcotic pain medication while suboxone is in your system. It takes about 5-7 days for it to be out of your system (per what they say at 1877 suboxone). If you took a regular pain pill with it in your system, basically nothing would happen. No high, no relief.
Avatar f tn SUBOXONE® (buprenorphine HCl/naloxone HCl dihydrate sublingual tablets) (CIII) is indicated for the treatment of opioid dependence. SUBOXONE is not indicated for pain management. Patients with a clinical need for pain management should not be transferred to a SUBOXONE regimen." lots of different info out there RE: Suboxone.
317787 tn?1473358451 I have my doubts about this but am hoping someone on here might have experience with this medication. Is suboxone used for pain management?
4832551 tn?1359761830 I was wondering if I took a 4th of one after not taking a strip no bigger than 1 cm , would I suffer worse w/d symptoms or would it take this horrible pain away and then I could just keep tappering off methadone until I feel better. I am not wanting to take methadone to get high, just be functional again enough to get back to work. Is it safe to take methadone after not taking 1 cm strip of suboxone over 12 hours prior?
Avatar f tn t used much for blood pressure anymore. It is used in pain management, though, and also is given to people who are going through withdrawals. I have been on it for a while for pain management (along with other things.) I'm not sure if it does much as far as pain goes. It doesn't affect my blood pressure either way. If you trust your doctor, I wouldn't worry too much about it. You could always ask the pharmacist what their opinion is.
Avatar f tn I had a similar question for Dr. Junig and he referred me to the answers he previously posted. I think he is quite a guy and wish that he was in my local area. I have been taking talwin nx for my headaches, which is a mixed agonist-antagonist drug with some different properties than other drugs.
Avatar m tn I also think you'll get a lot of support in the Pain Management forum. I've been on that forum for a long time, and have had received tremendous support and suggestions from so many!
Avatar f tn Hi Moonsyne, Taking that first step is courageous. You should be proud of yourself. I am glad that you are doing that for yourself and your babies. Because I do not have an addiction I don't know how much information I can offer you. Suboxone and Subutex (brand names) contains a medication called buprenorphine. There is a new article that states it is an "opiate agonist/antagonist and a very effective pain medication for appropriate patients.
Avatar m tn Ive heard of some people who use injections of buprenex which Id imagine is for quite severe pain, but suboxone isnt really designed for pain management more for getting off of opiates. Wish you all the best, look into as many different methods as possible, there are others out there that can replace opiates.
527810 tn?1244991867 So I am new here and was browsing the forums and see the pain management one. Not the group for me! Kind of funny how one group is fighting so hard to avoid opiates and one group over is looking for them. I understand they must have pain issues and serious medical issues I just was like Whoa I DO NOT need to be browsing in this forum! I guess its not a question just a newbies comment! So glad to have found support here!
Avatar m tn From my personal experience, you are not going to get pain relief from suboxone. And God forbid you ever need serious pain relief, once you take suboxone you will never get pain relief from hydros or percs or any of the like.
19164880 tn?1473283520 Congratulations on your suboxone taper. Well Done. Get rid of the remaining suboxone as long as the temptation is there you will eventually use it. Once an addict /dependency develops it's there for life. Whether due to prescribed drugs or street drugs. See your Pain Dr for alternatives that may work as you will have on going pain. I have just come of Actiq and Fentanyl patch and understand your situation.
Avatar f tn I hear that you have medical issues of which some might require you to take pain meds. But I'm always leary of drs that prescribe suboxone and methadone as a pain management drug. And I understand that your body is building a tolerance to the meds which is very common when people take pain meds for actual pain management. So I get your decision to attempt to come off of everything.
193953 tn?1272075026 both are made from buprenorphine, both are considered an opiate so both are addictive, but no high is associated with suboxone can be with subutex if abused, both are used to treat addiction and pain management...and it works!!!
Avatar f tn I plan on returning to suboxone although part of me wishes i could stay off of it and have not pain. I hope someone can answer my question. thank you.
Avatar f tn My psychiatrist has even written a letter to some clinics stating I cannot come off of the Xanax but they still refuse to take me and want to put me on Suboxone and I do not know what to do. I CANNOT TAKE THE PAIN ANYMORE.
970581 tn?1248407961 My mother has been prescribed many opiates for pain management for several years now. It has caused her some severe health issues, central sleep apnea, all kinds of stuff. Now they are checking for brain damage due to long term opiate abuse. She has been off all opiates for 22 days but had a 1 week suboxone taper. So now she has been off everything for 2 weeks. They did a drug test and she tested positive. Is it possible for some of this stuff to still be showing up on drug tests.
Avatar f tn Buprenephrine also comes in patch form and it is called the Butrans patch. The Butrans patch is strictly used for pain management. So I recommend going slow and listening closely to your doctor with regards to what the next steps are. We at medhelp are not allowed to provide tapering schedules for obvious reasons. Many here have successfully stopped Fentanyl through a supervised taper so it is best to talk with your physician and have him/her draft up a plan for you.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me about Belbuca which is a class 3 narcotic vs a class 2 and not the ugly side effects of oxycodone. I am hooked bad but also in pain. Can I have both a pain reliever and not abuse these strips I wonder? I’m so depressed over my use and how it has gotten worse over the years. I sometimes wish a genie would pop out of a lantern and grant me one wish. I would wish that someone would come along and say, I know what you are struggling with and I have a place that will help you.
Avatar m tn Well, I would see if you are reacting to the naloxone or the buprenorphine, maybe the dye. If for pain management, I would try Subutex, then. generic Subutex... pure mu receptor agonists narcotics simply are not the answer for pain management in people < 60 yrs of age or 70, simply due to the phenomenon of tolerance. Subutex and Suboxone are far behind in FDA approval for moderate pain....plus.
Avatar f tn t find anybody who would continue my meds without drastically reducing it and when I starting going through withdrawals, (first time in my life) I was totally honest with the ER and sent home 3 days in a row with blood pressure at 195/98, incredible pain and accused of being a drug addict and only trying to get pain meds from them. I stated 2 days that I wasn't asking for pain meds, just something to help me get through withdrawals, they refused.
667913 tn?1242700488 I started Suboxone last saturday for pain management NOT for WDs. It is NOT U.S. approved for pain management but my doc loves it and LOTS of his patients are on it for management. His office staff ALL think its the new miracle drug. One of the side effects "that I had" was headaches, but thats just me. It does work for pain but NOT like the other pain meds, its different. And after 1 week I found that I couldnt afford it so its back to Roxycodone as of today.
