Suboxone and other opiates

Common Questions and Answers about Suboxone and other opiates

suboxone

Avatar m tn Hi Casandra, welcome to the forum! Why are you asking this question? Are you pregnant and taking Suboxone? Are you taking Opiates? A bit more information will help us give you better advice. To attempt to answer your question, I believe that only certain doctors are able to prescribe Suboxone. I do not believe that an OB/GYN is one of them. I have no personal experience with Suboxone but other members here do. They will be along to weigh in soon.
210982 tn?1280983895 My question is this...does Suboxone make you high if you take too many? Can you mix Suboxone with other pain meds and if so what will happen? What happens if you mix Suboxone with alcohol? My friend said that her sister and her mom got into an argument and her sister said, "Fine, me and Haley and Kelsy and Kassidy will just go to bed!" Well Kassidy isn't even on this trip. Then my friend went in to talk to her sister and her sister said Haley is about to go to bed...
Avatar m tn atonicat is right. While taking Suboxone, any other opiates you take just don't have any brain receptors to cling to so there's no point in taking the tramadol. I can't imagine tramadol would do any good for your migraines anyway. I'm also surprised any doctor would prescribe an opiate while you're taking Suboxone. Do any of the triptan meds help your migraines?
Avatar n tn s again and get off the Suboxone for the surgery? I know Sub blocks opiates.. but dont know about the gas to make you go to sleep for a surgery. I am hoping for a nerve block to manage the post operative pain. As I want to really get the opiates out of my life, But my pain is soo bad.. I cant walk/shop for groceries, stand to do dishes and take care of my house and its effecting my sleep.
610505 tn?1329603723 It wont work ...I hope someone isn't taking opiates while on sub it defeats the purpose .
Avatar m tn You just need to first understand how suboxone works, and when and how much suboxone you need to take initially, and how much to take after your initial dose afterwards. Suboxone is a strong antagonist, which means it bonds well to the opiate receptors, but does not make you high. When it bonds to the opiate receptors, it "kicks off" other weaker opiates.
1331083 tn?1285912354 The buprenorphine in suboxone will also displace and block opiates from working properly.Dont start getting a habit with opiates and then take suboxone or you may go into precipitated withdrawal and its terrible...iv'e done it.I know its difficult, sweetheart, and most of the time we are missing and chasing that buzz, but you should give the suboxone a chance, just forget the opiates, and you will get a certain balance in your life.
Avatar n tn I have been on suboxone therapy for 2 years now. I started it to get away from other opiates because I would build up such a tolerance which lead to dependence. Suboxone has worked great for managing my FM and I haven't had to increase my dose at all.
Avatar f tn God forbid.....DON'T take suboxone when your taking opiates......You will crash very hard and go through W/D's that you never thought possible. In fact....it's dangerous!
Avatar m tn I guess my question is this.. If I switch between suboxone and percocet, will I become addicted to opiates anyway, because regardless of the two they are still both opiates. Also, how long does it take to get addicted to suboxone itself? I will stop everything now but I am curiouse. And how do I get the mood lift I get from these drugs naturally? I love how productive I am on them and well it stimulates my mind when I write music. THanks for the help.
Avatar n tn I was once addicted to opiates during my medical residency in anesthesiology and was detoxed with the help of Suboxone. Now I successfully detox my patients from opiates (eg. morphine, Oxycontin) using regulated amounts of Suboxone and also detox my patients from Suboxone addiction when that drug has been misused. I have found that the optimal time to have someone on Suboxone is between 20 and 25 days, tapering down on the medication every few days.
Avatar f tn He seems to have done his homework as far as understanding addiction..... and offers methods, drugs, and alternatives for help getting off not only opiates.....but all the other drugs I see people struggling with on this site. I like that he believes that you gotta go to AA or NA in addition to his methods.... and he seems sympathetic to people getting off opiates and he acknowledges the fact that reducing your dose creates terrible w/d’s.
Avatar f tn Always one to correct wrong information for people reading in the future. Suboxone contains "Buprenorphine" which is a Partial Opiate Agonist.(or your could say, a partial opiate, I suppose.) and "Naloxone" which is a Complete Opiate Antagonist.(blocker) NOT "a potent synthetic opiate (narcotic) and partial opiate blocker." In England, they are allowed to prescribe Subutex (Suboxone without the Naloxone) and Suboxone for pain.
Avatar f tn I absolutely do not recommend this. I once tapered from Suboxone and was about to jump- thought some short lasting opiates like Norco would help me and ended up right back where I started please hear my caution. And know it's from concern not condemnation.
1122748 tn?1306239764 Suboxone may curb cravings for other opiates and allow people to stop stealing and get their lives in order. But the problem is that, after three months or so, they have terrible difficulties quitting Suboxone because of its sheer strength in binding to opiate receptors, its long half-life, and the fact that it’s a partial-agonist binding to receptors built for full agonists. most people, including physicians, do not comprehend the strength and effects of buprenorphine.
Avatar m tn Hello everyone. This is the first time I have decided to post to a forum. I have suffered from chronic severe back and leg pain from a motorcycle accident in 2008. Recently, I got health insurance (after many years uninsured) and, after many MRI's and other tests, underwent a discectomy for these issues. It has, as of now, been considered a failed surgery by my Dr. I am in more pain now than before. He has talked to me about a spinal cord stimulator.
Avatar m tn What if you are taking suboxone and try to take opiates within 24 hours after your last sub dose and of course you don't feel the effects of the opiates because the suboxone in your body blocked it? Do the opiates stay in your body or just get flushed out since they can't stick to your receptors?
Avatar f tn I have been on subutex for 2 years and I try to take Suboxone it threw me into withdrawals really bad y is that
Avatar f tn I ask because how are you going to handle your pain? I’m not an advocate for Suboxone. Suboxone in my opinion is a devil drug and hard to taper off of. It also made me very depressed. I’m a big baby so I used comfort meds from the doctor to detox. I’ve gone cold turkey but it’s so hard on the body. I can’t live a life if I’m in pain. What I found with my methadone was that my pain could be handled without it. I did smoke weed and am an advocate for that.
947931 tn?1251495088 re not using other types of opiates---whereas other more generic tests like home tests and such just test positive no matter what type of opiate you've used)
Avatar m tn Somehow I made a halfway plan to take 1 8mg Suboxone a day and take 3 Lyrica.Well its day 26 and I still have 12 Suboxone left and 4 Lyrica. I did good on one and poorly on the other.I am rather proud of myself and I read your post and experiences on ways to taper since my doctor doesn't care.My question is which should I try hardest to kick 1st? I see my doctor in 2 days and wonder what my next plan is and I am willing to do everything to beat this once and for all.
Avatar m tn s with suboxone. Check out the health pages on the top right that has a lot of info on Suboxone. Good luck and I know exactly how you feel.
Avatar f tn com, we visited 3 different doctors with our problem and by that time we were introduced to suboxone, well here we are almost another 3 years later trying to come off suboxone, not at choice but we are now very happy to know the real truth, we couldn't be tapered either time especially this time since the doctor is out on vacation for the week and we have no way to get the rx needed, basically what im getting at is do your research, it's not gonna be easy, especially with KIDS, i have a
Avatar m tn I have taken Subutex on top of Methadone and other opiates, to which it did not cause any blocking effect nor any antagonist reaction. You may want to lower your dosage or stop taking Subutex whilst you're on medication for your tooth simply to prevent any kind of overdose. However, I can assume that you know yourself and your limits much better than I or anyone else on this board. Good luck to you, dear.
351846 tn?1273615544 What he was referring to is the fact that sub has a stronger affinity for those opiate receptors than other opiates do. It will push other opiates off the receptors and it will stick to them no matter what else you take and so it will block the effect of other opiates. Opiate receptors affect a lot more than pain. They are involved with motivation and emotions in ways that aren't fully understood. Sub is only a partial agonist.
