Avatar f tn ll see your post and reply. He has quite a bit of experience with Methadone and withdrawal and he can advise and explain. In the meantime, look in the "health pages" upper right of this page. You'll see articles there related to Methadone and Suboxone/Subutex. They're very good. Be patient...it's late and things are slow but there are many who can share their experiences with you.
Avatar f tn what will happen if I take Methadone over Suboxone? Will it have any effects or Suboxone will block that since it is an opiiate blocker?
Avatar n tn So whats this Subutex? Is it the Suboxone or part of it. I'm on Suboxone and it makes me so so sick i throw up half hour after taking it. Also it gives me real bad stomach aches. Even the taste is unbearable now. Probably cause i anticipate the throwing up. It is horrible. Its turned into a nightmare I'm hoping that this week when i see the Dr. that he will switch me back onto the methadone I'm insisting on it. Not another day not another week....
Avatar n tn However it may be helpful in helping you quit methadone. Ive heard withdrawal from methadone and suboxone can be very similar so I caution against long term sub use.. it seems the least amount of sub for the shortest amount of time is the best way to go. I have heard from people who used it for about 10-15 days and it helped tremendously. Do your research on it though - thats the best advice I can give you. Knowledge is power.
Avatar f tn Most physicians have little to no experience with (or much knowledge of) methadone and how it works and especially methadone and pregnancy. A doctor must hold special licensing to prescribe methadone for opiate addiction, and have the appropriate opiate-substitution training to do so. Therefore, you may not always get the current or correct advice from a general physician or OB-GYN. Your methadone clinic can't steer you to an OB-GYN with the correct addiction training.
Avatar m tn You're already on methadone and you really can't begin SUBOXONE until you're down to at least 30mg per day of methadone; last I knew. When you see the doctor tomorrow, tell him you prefer to taper the methadone...if that's what you truly want. But as I said, you need to taper down to 30 mg anyway and that's well documented.
Avatar n tn she took a half or so of suboxone ontop of the methadone. her methadone is at 90mg doses, and im not sure how much the suboxone was. probably 4. well, she isnt doing good. shes hurting and flopping and **** ive never seen before. i never did herion had opiate withdrawal or anything of the such. what can happen to her? what can i do to help her? doctors? hospital? death? -scared fiance.
Avatar m tn Suboxone contains buprenorphine, a very potent opiate with a flat dose/response relationship. The result is that with Suboxone you are either 'on' it or 'off' it, rather than being able to regulate the dose. 'On' Suboxone means an opiate effect equal to about 30-40 mg of methadone per day.
Avatar f tn Hey all. I've been on 35mg methadone for 2 years and have to switch to suboxone for insurance reasons. The suboxone doctor just told me to skip one days worth of dose and come in "withdrawaling"... I'm scared that one day won't be enough and I'll go into precip withdrawals, but I don't want to go into full fledged withdrawal because I know I'll get high to alleviate the feeling and end up losing my job (I've been clean for the entire 2 years). Any tips?
Avatar f tn I recently found out that I am pregnant. I am 6 weeks pregnant and both my suboxone dr and my obgyn dr know I am on Suboxone. I can't withdrawal from the medication now that I am pregnant because the drs say that it will cause the baby to also go through withdrawal and will most likely cause a miscarriage. I was wondering if anyone has any input? Has anyone else had a child while on Suboxone or knows of someone who has? Did the baby go through withdrawal after birth?
Avatar n tn Actually I'm in the same boat. I'm 17 weeks pregnant and on 10mg. I've had 2 babies while on Methadone the 1st I was on 80mg and she had no withdrawals the 2nd I was on 40mg and she did have withdrawals and spent 12 days in the NICU and was on morphine. I was told it doesn't really depend on your dose if your baby does or doesn't withdrawal, it just depends on the baby. I'm definately trying to get off the Methadone before I have this one.
3160774 tn?1343705010 DOC=methadone, waited about 60 hours to induce 4mg. sub. 30min later I still felt some withdrawal and took another 4mg of sub. In another 30 min. I was feeling normal, better than normal on methadone. No more withdrawal. Methadone is a long acting opioid, so I reached about a 25 on the COWS scale, longer than necessary. I waited until I had every symptom before induction. I probably would have been fine at 48hrs, but was only going to do it once. Good luck.
Avatar m tn You just need to first understand how suboxone works, and when and how much suboxone you need to take initially, and how much to take after your initial dose afterwards. Suboxone is a strong antagonist, which means it bonds well to the opiate receptors, but does not make you high. When it bonds to the opiate receptors, it "kicks off" other weaker opiates.
Avatar f tn I was on 50 mls methadone and have been put on 16mg suboxone. Im really struggling and am going back to work tomorrow. I have no energy and still feel Wd symptoms. How long will this last?
Avatar f tn Hey I was wondering if anyone knew if while I was trying to withdrawal from methadone. I started to use my DOC again and I am going to try a withdrawal using small amounts of suboxone for 3-4 days and then nothing. A friend is locking me in his house (he is a nurse) and going to try and help me.
Avatar f tn Suboxone is a very powerful opiate for the number of mgs in a dose. There are all sorts of equivalence charts but as a rough rule of thumb think of 1mg of Suboxone being roughly equal to 25 mg of morphine. Then there's the added complication of Suboxone being a long half-life drug, which usually makes the withdrawal longer if not harder. I've never heard someone say they jumped from 2mg and it was a walk in the park. I was on it for 2 years. I tapered down to .
Avatar f tn my dr office has no nurses and the receptionist all say they have never heard of having to be so manys hours into withdrawal before starting suboxone. I am very confused and scared..any advice would be much appriciated.
7608252 tn?1392564364 Did you cut your methadone dose before starting the Suboxone? It is best to get down to 25mg of methadone and then wait until you are in withdrawals to start the Suboxone. I got mad at my clinic and switched at 80 mg. I waited 4 days to take my 1st dose and it was tough but doable. It took a couple days until I felt normal again.
Avatar f tn ive had multiple friends get arrested- put in jail while on 100+ mg of methadone. And from what I hear its the longest/roughest withdrawal you can go through. if your on it... id recommend going straight down to 5mg then jump. Suboxone has a special place in my heart where my hatred lies. If I could go back before I decided suboxone would be a good idea, I would kick myself and my doctor in the teeth. Im currently 2 weeks without suboxone after 3 years of it.
1253584 tn?1332877954 They use several drugs after the last dose of methadone, and then put you on sub. If you have been on methadone a long time (years), they might have you on sub for 6 weeks, 2 months max. It doesn't make any sense to put switch somebody from methadone to sub in most cases. If you want, I can give more ifo on these detoxes.
Avatar f tn I knew a young man who took about 15 a day and went to a local doctor here in Birmingham, Alabama and the doctor put him on Suboxone and it worked for him, but now after I've read all the good and bad about Suboxone I'm wondering what to do. I read about a medicine that is said to be better called Buprenorphine and was wondering if anyone could give me some information on this.
Avatar f tn I would be reluctant to go off any opiate while on interferon therapy; the risk of depression from the interferon is quite high, and the opiate withdrawal could precipitate a very serious depression that requires stopping treatment for the hep C. There are a number of reasons people have trouble stopping Suboxone; the biggest reason is because it is hard to stop ANY opiate, including Suboxone.
Avatar f tn He tells me he will get a half dose(10mg) of methadone tomorrow- Friday am- and then will get his first dose of the suboxone Monday am. From what I have read here- I am gonna suggest that he stay on the sub as short a time as possible- perhaps the 21 day protocol that is described on the health pages. This has been hell. I hope he can make it. He is so not good with any kind of suffering- which is how he ended up here in the first place...
Avatar f tn Suboxone is definitely better than Methadone and is easier to get off of just don't overdue your Suboxone doses.
1227909 tn?1267853479 suboxone and methadone are meant for short term use withdrawal side effects are gone within a month thats all the longer your body needs it zoe - yes treatment is possible at stage 4 - i heard now even with decompensated cirrhosis treatment is possible
