Suboxone and liver damage

Common Questions and Answers about Suboxone and liver damage

suboxone

Most medicine effects the liver. Suboxone included. Any increase in ALT levels usually indicates liver damage because the enzyme generally will spill into the blood only when there IS liver damage. I hope that helps. If you're concerned,go ahead and ask for a blood test. It's included in a standard panel. If there's any info about this particular drug and ALT levels it may be under hematology. But I don't know.
I have a collapsed disc, arthiritis through my spine to where surgery is not an option, and nerve damage (due to a car wreck) One doctor gave me percocet...thats not good for the liver...but percodan is asprin based...what I am wondering ,would that be a better pain reliever? Some days are so long because of the pain,I just want to feel as close to normal as I can. Thanks if anyone can help ..
Before I address that though, I wanted to also address the damage you are doing to your liver because of the amount of acetaminophen you ingest by taking both percocets and Coricidin. Just Something to think about. Now let me tel you about Suboxone. Suboxone is the brand name for a medication consisting of buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine is a thebaine derivative with powerful analgesia approximately 20-40x more potent than morphine.
i havent seen a post where people talk about the damage the pills have caused their liver or kidneys. has anyone had any problems with their liver or kidney?
However, if no other complications arise, the patient's liver will repair completely, and a liver biopsy after 30 days will appear completely normal with no signs of damage and no scar. However, the long-term complications of liver disease occur when regeneration is either incomplete or prevented by progressive development of scar tissue within the liver. This occurs when the damaging agent such as a virus, a drug, alcohol, etc., continues to attack the liver and prevents complete regeneration.
//cholesterol.emedtv.com/zocor/zocor-and-liver-problems.html _________________________________________________________ It may be the combination of meds...(Zocor&Suboxone)...I couldn't find any info on effexor xr and elevated liver enzymes. Hope you get it figured out.
as you surely know, depakote has the potential to damage the liver and there is some much smaller risk of toxicity from naloxone-- maybe, anyway. This is more of a theoretical issue than a big concern though; I would likely check your liver enzymes once per year or so.
Although these symptoms are vague and can be contributed to other minor health problems, but if you have a real concern, I would go to the dr. and request a liver function test and whatever other tests he/she recommends.
20-25 per day can easily cause permanent liver damage and a simple blood test can determine if and how much damage has occurred. Taking 50 tylenol at once can kill the liver (which is what kills someone who commits suicide by tylenol overdose). You can imagine that taking 50 over two days also does damage. Suboxone is a very different opiate known as an agonist/antagonist which acts on the same opiate receptors in the brain but blocks euphoria while preventing withdrawal symptoms.
You are gonna be fine ,this stuff will help your liver. It's documented fact peole have backed thier liver damage 2 stages after txing with the meds.
For those of you who have pain and are on suboxone, what do you take and what works best for you dealing with pain? I know everyone is different, but just curious what non-narcotic pain meds are out there and do they work as well as the narcs??
I had a liver function done before I started Suboxone and then again when I was half way finished with it. Suboxone is very hard on your liver.
It still makes me extremely sleepy and I'm unable to concentrate. I get my kidney and liver checked every 3 months and I haven't done any damage so far. I was actually put on pure codeine maintenance and this was working perfectly until for some reason he pulled me off it and is now trying to make me take Suboxone or Methadone.
To be honest suboxone is pretty high price each pill at a pharmacy is about 5-8 dollars each so they not saving much at all sounds to me like they are saying your an addict and putting you on treatment plan to get you off oc etc. Like I said I've tried Suboxone and it's awful here's what it did to me. When I first started made me feel awful so I thought well it;s new I'll try it out but never changed at all. I tried it for 6 months and stayed same whole 6 months.
But I will gladly take 1-2mg pill everyday as opposed to the 25-30 hydro's I was taking and not causing all the liver damage that the tylenol in vicodins do.. The only really bad thing is that if you don't have health insurance it is quite expensive but for me worth every penny..
This post may turn out to be quite long, but try to bear with me. SUBOXONE- Suboxone can be a great lifesaving tool, when used and prescribed appropriately. This usually means: Developing a close relationship with your sub provider, staying on the lowest dose that minmizes cravings, but high enough to keep withdrawals at bay, and using suboxone combined with some sort of behavioral/psychological therapy. Suboxone will halt your withdrawals in their tracks and keep them there.
I was addicted to percocet and vicodin for about two years on and off and went into treatment for that. I am now addicted to the suboxone which I even told my doctor and he didn't want to wean me. This is nothing but a money maker for doctors. I have weaned myself down from 16 mg a day...down to six mg on my own and I am now on 2 mg/day....but I am nauseous and severely depressed since my NEW doctor lowered my dose.
I've been on both Subutex and and Suboxone for quite a long time. My former physician used it as pain medicine and perscribed 32 mg daily X4. It is an amazing pain releiver with little or no side effects. I now decided to lower and change to subutex 8 mg X 2. I'm a former Police Officer that was run over by a stolen auto and sustained a fragmented disk in my neck. I have tried many different pain releivers and i'm at this point. Does anyone have any suggestions that may be more helpful?
Right now I am on day 17 of no suboxone after 4 years of suboxone and 1 year of methadone and I am still in pain. Please, do your research you may end up substituting 1 evil for another.
I have been taking Suboxone for 3yrs and I am pregnant w/ my 2ND child while on suboxone. I also know of another girl who has had 2 babies while taking suboxone. My 1st child I had while taking suboxone is ABSOLUTELY perfect. He will be 2 in Dec. He weighed 7lbs. and 3 oz @ birth. When I had him, the hospital knew I was on this medication and monitored him just to make sure he was ok and he never showed any signs of WDs.
I have for 5 days now remained weak, nausiated, completely not myself with a feeling of dread, unable to eat almost unable to function. Can a person sustain liver damage from one dose of a medication? If so what is the prognosis? I have seen a doctor in the emergency room, and at a clinic. Both told me to drink lots of water and take medicine to relieve symptoms. I am not ok. Please help.
Though I am concerned about my liver - I have seen info about watching the liver during treatment. I have done some damage to my liver during my Vicodin addiction. My liver counts have been elevated for a long time, and that was before I started drinking to deal with WD's. :( Your post has given me hope -- I think even if my ins doesn't cover it, I should give it a shot. The lady I talked to couldn't stop raving about it, but she works there, so I expect that.
Hopefully it isnot to late and the job search will work and we can start to repair the damage. Friday is our day for no suboxone and i think between the two of us we will have taken a total of 3 pills in 5 days. Looks like this is working. We werent on that many hydro;s so amybe that is it or maybe this just works for us?? Hope everyone is having a good week.
Luckily I had to much pride to stick a needle in my arm even though at my level of intake it would have been healthier considering all the ******* acetametiphine that I've exposses my liver and kidnes too. Day five is also the day that my organs ache. My left kidney keeps shooting sharp pains that sometimetimes makes me hit the floor and my colon is very tender as well.
Is there any way you can find a program so that she can have a biopsy done? A liver biopsy is really the ONLY way to know what liver damage she has and how urgent it is for her to treat or not. I take a medication that is just like methadone (called suboxone)...and it does NOT raise my enzymes at all. so it's my guess really that it's the hep doing it, although it could be a NUMBER of things. She really does need to get a biopsy so you know where she stands.
i had been having nausea and vomiting for several weeks, and began having pain in the area where the liver sits. I was so worried I had liver damage, or failure. I was no longer getting high, just worried about the withdrawls. My tylenol level was high when I checked in, but the following morning it was nearly undetectable. My liver enzymes.......completely normal. Dont use this as an excuse to continue using however, I consider myself VERY lucky. One more day and who knows?
Even children under the age of 5 have been known to consume unattended Suboxone and only suffer from nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, along with some crankiness due to the stomach discomfort. I hope this information helps! Dr. Oswald, Ph. D and Licensed Addiction Medicine Admin. and Treatment Specialist.
for them before the opiates, but they told me i was taking way too many and that it could and would damage my kidneys and liver, etc. so they wanted to put me on the percs.
After visiting my doctor and having several test ran, he told me that it was a matter of life and death and that A. I would either end up dead or B. I would have severe liver and kidney damage that would last the rest of my life. Well, I thought about the Sub for a while and after ending up the the E.R. for an overdose of the Norco's, I decided to get on the Sub train and I am glad I did. I ahve a beautiful wife and 3 kids that all rely on me to be there for them.
