Suboxone and benzos

Common Questions and Answers about Suboxone and benzos

suboxone

I recently started taking Suboxone for my opiate addiction. I haven been on benzos for panic disprder w/ agoraphobia for the past 7 or 8 years. In regard to benzos - At present date I am prescribed 1mg twice a day. I was told to taper my bup dose up every couple of days, until I felt comfortable taking the dose of 16mg p/day. Yesterday was the first day that I begain full dosing on the suboxone... Funny thing is I also got my script for klonipin filled yesterday..
Ive tappered down to 1 and half pills a day, and havent had any wds. I use to take methadone and quit that about two years ago and was clean for about a year and half until the doctor gave me tramadol and told me it wasnt addicting well know im on the suboxone because of it. I was wondering if the wds will be like methadone or not as bad, And ive never been hooked before to clonazapam before I take 3 2 mg clons a day and am going to start to tapper that two.
Any ways to make a long story short, this past year was the hardest after loosing the baby my man took a suboxone and ended up in jail because he was on drug court. well he told me he'd help me get off suboxone when he got out and he ended up getting me oxys, heroin, and methadone. So I don't know what happen, I did my last shot of dope on Sunday and then went to methodone for a few days.
If you do chose to do the suboxone make sure you quit all benzos first because they do not fit well together and deaths have ocurred from mixing Sub and benzos.
I have slowly tapered off of the suboxone, and can't seem to get lower than 1 mg without having withdrawals. I am wondering how long the withdrawals will go on if I just do it.
you made my day, thanks for the info, this friday will be the last time I take suboxone, until then I will drop to an 1/8th a day and then do it! and keep posting and talking with you !!!!!
I am doing really well with the pain and withdrawls except for the severe anxiety spells about 4-5 times a day and more frequent at night. Have no real tolerance to benzos and never really had a problem with them addiction wise just pain killers and my doc knows this. Can anything be perscribed along with suboxone for anxiety or will my doc more than likely say thats a no no and to deal with it.
I have come of of both benzos and opiates and to me benzos are a lot more dangerous. With opiates it's very uncomfortable and depressing but with benzos you could actually die!
I agree with Avisg, you need to talk to your Doctor about this. Are you taking Suboxone under a Doctor's care? If not, you're playing with fire. Also, you state that Benzos make up of "nearly everything I am on". The Lunesta (which is a "Z" drug that's closely related to Benzos and act like them, bust are chemically different) and the Ativan arethe only two Benzos (or Benzo "like" drugs) you're taking.
The answer for others is that you should just take your daily dose of Suboxone-- if you were started on Suboxone-- and you'll be OK in a day or two. For a person in THIS situation-- on methadone-- you should stop taking Suboxone (or any other nonprescribed meds) and take your REGULAR methadone dose, and you'll be fine in a day or so. DO NOT TRY TO OVERCOME THE SUBOXONE BY TAKING A HUGE DOSE OF METHADONE OR OXYCODONE-- DOING THAT IS VERY DANGEROUS.
no, suboxone only affects opiates.
I have no idea why suboxone would cause you to test positive for benzos, but you may get better answers on the Addiction Forum here at Med Help. Congratulations on your detox and rehab by the way!
to - BMac - yes I know all about benzos and opiates - Benzos mega intensify opiates and being a sick and twisted addict I used to like that - I'd take my evening klonopin dose (while I was on sub) and an hour later be nodding out with my face on my dinner plate. Fortunately I have no more sub and just want to get through whatever withdrawls and get back to normal.
Ive been on prozac and ativan for a year and a half now. My Sub Dr. is aware of it too. No complications. Im starting to ween myself off the ativan (with both my PCP and Sub Dr. knowing it). I am taking 2- 1 mg tablets twice a day. The Doc said to take 1 1/2 pills for a week then go down to 1 mg per day for a week, then 0.5 for a week, then break that in half and so on til I quit. Does this sound right to you?
I know of people who are on suboxone and benzo's at the same time, most sub doctors dont tend to prescribe both, but some will. Buprenorphine the active opiate in sub is a powerful drug, so taking valium or other benzos can be very dangerous. Whatever you do be completely honest about when your last dose of any opiate was, you have to be in a moderate-severe withdrawal in order to start sub treatment so be honest.
he already is perscribed clonopan and ambien 2 drugs that could seriously be harmfull if taken with suboxone and when i brought that issue up he said he stopped taking them. I dont know whats going to happen if he has a panic attack or he goes on other drugs again and the psychologist there doesnt seem to care about what happens when he gets out of rehab but we have a month old som and i dont want him to have a father thats either dead or an addict. I love him and want to be with him.
I think I am going to kick back and try to chill for a little bit. I started suboxone on Tues evening and haven't had a perc since then!!! :) I have no complaints - in fact, I can't belive how good I feel. The only problem is that I have had anxiety (I have had issues in the past). I don't know if it's part of some minimal W/D or a side effect of the subox. I do have a prescripton for xanax, but my subox doc said I should be very careful with that and use it sparingly.
Just wondering, what are the effects of Suboxone, Seroquel and Klonopin? He is on 12 mg of suboxone daily, and is prescribed 2 mg of Klonopin but he is abusing that already and taking about 20 mg of the klonopin. I am not overly worried, just because he was taking about 350 mg of valium a day before going on the sub a month ago, but of course there is some concern. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Hi ! I've been taking suboxone for 4m/8mg. I'm down to 2mg. My Q: Did anyone ever try to take other meds. to help with the withdrawal?
Then he said it was purely a Xanax problem with SOME Lortab use. Then he finally admitted it was pretty much equal amounts of Lortab and Benzos. He admitted the Xanax on December 11th. Said he could kick it on his own. We all believed him of course. That weekend I went into pre-term labor with our twins and had to be admitted to stop the labor. The stress of his problem put me into labor. One week later we went to a therapist.
Rich, didn't you go on the Suboxone to come off of pills? Taking Benzos and Codeine to come off of Suboxone sounds counter productive. Both of those are addictive so what happens when you need to come off of them? I know Suboxone withdrawal is nasty but you made the decision to do it so follow it through before you end up right back where you started. We can help you with some natural supplements and support.
Sleep, anxiety etc, Im now going on a methadone programme due to other reasons, and really want to get off the benzos asap. Is it possible to do it cold turkey, the way i did with morphine yrs ago, even though that was complete hell, or can it actually be quite harmful, as ive heard it could be. Im sure my doc will have something to say about it next time i see him but any advice is greatly appreciated til then.
Im not positive that your automatically red flagged with sub, but most offices are linked up by computers now or a new doctor will need your medial charts from your old doctor and if they look them over and see suboxone they will probably put two and two together. Now if you got into some bad accident where you absolutely needed something for pain, your still going to get somethiing, they would just be much more careful about how much and how long you would be able to use, which is a Good thing.
I think it's going to be tough to find a doctor to prescribe benzos and suboxone together. They can be deadly together. Good luck with your treatment.
I have been taking 4/mg of suboxone off the street for the last year and a half to stay off opiates "9 yr addiction", I just recently got medicaide and am getting into a clinic, due to no private doctors in the area taking new patients I have to go through what most would call "drug court" although im not in any trouble with the law. I must attend meeting daily before they will put me on them.
I took my first dose a couple hours ago, 8 mg film, and I did it wrong I guess. When I put it under my tongue it got stuck to my tooth and gums and mouth but not much under my tongue. I tasted it dissolve all over my mouth really, I also think I may have had something to drink too soon after taking it because I tasted more of it when I drank my gatorade about 10 minutes later (maybe a little less, like 7-8 minutes).
I did it also without clonodine or benzos either... If your not feeling that bad, then count blessings and hope for the best! Regardless, you can beat it. I have heard a lot of it is mental, so try not to expect the worst but maybe prepare yourself in case.. keep posting and let us know how you do. Sharing your sub experience will be very helpful to others who come to this site seeking as much real life experience as they can get. Take care and good luck!
Suboxone is also used for pain management. I have alot of back issues which started the whole vicodin thing, and with the suboxone I have had no issues with pain at all. They are giving you ritalin to stop you from crying? I'm confused, why are you crying? I think it really helps to see a couselor. take care of yourself, and really consider suboxone it has been my miracle. Really, I feel like a brand new person, screw vicodin....it's an IDIOT!!!!
Benzo withdrawl for somebody who has epilepsy is VERY dangerous. My Doctors started me on all of the pain killers and Benzos and they kept upping the dosages. I just was not paying attention until I had a really bad seizure at work. Then my husband jumped in, got me a new Dr., and is a big part of my recovery. I'm just ready to all of it to be over.
