Suboxone and babies

Common Questions and Answers about Suboxone and babies

suboxone

they are tapering her off of the methadone, and of course she is going through hell. does anyone here know if suboxone can be used for infants?
It would be best for both you and the baby to be gently tapered off of Suboxone while you are still pregnant, so that you are both drug free by the time of the delivery and your baby will not need to go through any withdrawals at all. Even though babies have been safely delivered to mothers taking Suboxone and nursed by those mothers while on Suboxone, I still strongly believe, that it would be better for both of you to be drug free at the time of delivery.
I am just about 6 months pregnant and in the beginning of my pregnancy I took a quarter of a suboxone for pain and didn't take it again until yesterday which was another quarter of a suboxone. I am actually very worried right now. my question is, if I do not take this any longer, will it be able to be detected in myself or the babys stool when she is born? I really would like to avoid CPS.
IM 10 weeks and 4days along, I'm on 4mg suboxone films and have to take it through my while pregnancy, unfortunately. I've never had a problem taking it before I got pregnant. Even though the taste is unpleasant. But. Since I got pregnant I cannot even smell it without puking. What I usually do is let a mint sit in top of my tounge while it is dissolving under my tounge but, I can't even do this without puking, every time and I'm waisting my films. Any suggestions and ideas?
I am 6 months pregnant and have taken a quarter of a suboxone in early stages of pregnancy and have again taken a quarter of a suboxone strip. I am not going to do this again for fear for my baby and the fact that I know it was wrong, but what I would like to know is, if I no longer do this, will it be able to be detected in myself or the baby in any way when she is born? My due date is July 22, 2014. thankyou.
I had the experience and the CYS were really nice and understanding talking about the suboxone treatment.
Babies have been successfully nursed by mothers on Suboxone. I am not sure why they said that he was in withdrawals, since most babies born to moms on Suboxone do not show much withdrawals. I can only assume that they have his best interests in heart. Now that he is on morphine, he needs to be tapered down or he will truly be in withdrawals (from morphine). They certainly should not be upping his dose, but lowering it. Please question them on their reasoning.
I have read things about women taking Suboxone while being pregnant and their babies are perfectly healthy, but on the other hand I have heard that the babies go through withdrawals at times too. I have also read that if I"m just cut off of the Suboxone cold turkey without being tappered off of it that it could cause a miscarraige.
If you smoke, you need to quit smoking as well, because it leads to decreased baby weight and higher incidence of early labor. Suboxone and Subutex are both commonly used medication to help addicts stop using and have been found safe to use in pregnancy to help mom STOP her addiction. It is certainly far safer than continuing to use the narcotics. Please see you doctor or midwife ASAP. Good luck to you and your growing family. You must take care of yourself for your baby.
Subutex is a much safer drug during pregnancy then Suboxone and certainly safer than methadone. It would be best for both you and the baby to be gently tapered off of Subutex while you are still pregnant, so that you are both drug free by the time of the delivery and your baby will not need to go through any withdrawals at all.
I am on Suboxone and it has definitely taken a toll on my sex life with my wife. The interest is there as much as it used to be. A couple times a month is where we are at, sorry if that is too much info. When I take less or miss a dose it does come back. Maybe have your husband put off taking it until afterwards. I take 8mgs once a day. I do need to point out that my wife and I have never had a great sex life.
Do not use buprenorphine if you are breast-feeding a baby. Suboxone Pregnancy There are no adequate and well-controlled studies of SUBOXONE (a Category C medication) in pregnancy. SUBOXONE should not be taken during pregnancy unless your doctor determines that the potential benefit to you justifies the potential risk to your unborn child. Contraception should be used while taking SUBOXONE.
But I want off of it. I need advice on the suboxone treatment. And whether or not my baby will become addicted to the suboxone and go through withdrawls after delivery.
i'm currently pregnant as well and an opid dependant, i was on suboxone and they told me to get on methadone, i'm currently on that. i see a mid wife and she says it's the safest. there is also a possibilty that when the baby is born there will be no addiction to the methadone. the withdrawl is more harmful on the baby then anything. just make sure your doctor knows everything. she's not alone. i know exactly what you guys are going threw.
Hello, I am new to this and am trying to find some info pertaining to my personal situation with suboxone and getting off of it without risk of breaking down and relapsing. Here is some past history of my personal situation. I was addicted to pain pills for a little over a year. Like most I started off on what we call around here "babies" meaning Vicodin 5, perc 5 and went onto to Vic/perc 10's and graduated on IR30's (tolerance about 4-6 daily).
I have been doing some research on suboxone and infant withdrawal and so far have found that infants do not go through any withdrawal sysptoms. But it's not good enough for me. If there is anyone out there that could help me with what to do or give any advice please help me!!!
30 - 11 and wake up at 7 all wide wake and feeling good. Stress, yes I have stress...
He used while I was in the hospital recovering and I had to completely take care of myself after having a c-section and not having either one of my babies with me. He used again while our little girl was at home, but we were visiting our little boy multiple times a day in the NICU. She came home at 10 days, and he came home at 24 days. He used again throughout Jan 1st. I told him he had two choices, go to inpatient rehab or lose his family. I couldn't take it anymore.
I am afraid that even if i get off suboxone the doctors will find it in his system when hes born and take him away from me, even though i would have quit 20 weeks before then. i was told drugs stay in a babies system longer and even if i quit now he could still be taken away in 20 weeks when i give birth because they can find suboxone in his system even if it was from 20 weeks before. i'm so scared somebody please tell me this isn't true!?
Now suboxone on the other hand hasn't been studied like methadone but from my personal experience I know lots of women who have babies on both suboxone and methadone and those babies are all fine. I had a friend tell me just today that she has a friend who is 4 months pregnant and is on suboxone and they found out her baby has down syndrome and she is saying it's from suboxone. Now whether that's true or not....who knows.
We've discussed my dosage which is 8mg once daily and they've dealt with other suboxone pregnancies and NONE of their babies had experienced any withdrawals and they were all on the same dosage as me. My entire pregnancy has been extremely healthy and I've had absolutely no issues. All my prenatal visits have been great and my baby is above average size in his development according to the ultrasounds.
during these past three years I have managed to get down to 1mg a day and my husband 4mg a day! being previous OPIATE addicts and Heroin addicts I've never been happier in my life.....when we went to the clinic years ago, they said that people have healthy babies all the time on subox......I'm scared to tell the doctor, but I have to be honest........I've been at a low in life where I was without a car, buying black tar heroin on the streets and putting it in my veins.......
Babies have been safely delivered to mothers taking Suboxone and nursed by those mothers while on Suboxone. The best thing you can do is take good care of yourself, eat healthy food, stay hydrated, keep active and busy. Stay away from sugar, soda, and simple carbs. Do not consume caffeine at least 6 hours prior to bedtime. The best way to take care of your baby girl is to take care of yourself.

Even though babies have been safely delivered to mothers taking Suboxone and nursed by those mothers while on Suboxone or Subutex, I still strongly believe, that it would be better for both of you to be drug free at the time of delivery. I understand that you may have some discomfort while tapering the Suboxone, you do have to do it gently. The last taper should be titrated slowly, down to 0.5mg/day, then 0.25mg and if you are still uncomfortable stopping there, half of that.
I am now done with my first month on methadone and I can say it works a lot better than suboxone for me, but everyone is different. I feel more motivated and productive than before and my cravings are a lot more tamed than with sub.
As far as the baby w/d some babies feel it and some dont. I was on suboxone and did not come off of it during pregnancy and my baby girl is just fine. She did not show not one sign of withdrawal.
. I have a question. I am 6 weeks pregnant and am on Suboxone 4 mg a day. My doctor is going to switch me to subutex. Is this okay to take while im pregnant or this going to cause problems for the baby. I dont want him/her to go thru withdrawals......what can I do? and is it going to be okay to stay on the subutex? Anybody else taken this while pregnant or know someone? I dont want to cause my baby any harm from this....
I'm crying and feeling like I'm going to go crazy. I have to babies here and if one isn't crying the other one is and it is about to send me over the edge. Normallly it wouldn't but with all that I'm dealing with I can't stand it. My husband and mom are trying to take care of it but I'm not the type of person that can just block it out. Thanks again everyone.
My ob was about to prescribe ambien so i could sleep through the withdraws and I think that would have been worse than staying on a low dose of suboxone. There have been studys on sedatives and they are not good for baby. Most of all i came close to relapsing cuz i was so miserable. The last month and 1/2 I went from 2 sometimes 3 mgs to 0.5 sometimes 1 mg. Honestly tapering down was no problem. going off completely was hell.
