Avatar f tn Hi there, I was discharged from a stroke unit in the uk yesterday after having a mini ischaemic stroke which I was frombolised for. When I was first admitted my troponin levels were at 365, dropping to 190 over a 4 day period. I'm unsure of the level now but I imagine it's lower. But I know healthy people are supposed to have no reading. I'm a 29 year old, otherwise healthy female - no drinking smoking or drugs. No history of strokes in the family.
Avatar n tn 41yr old female presents to stroke unit with left side arm/leg weakness. Physiotherapist not convinced it is a stroke. dragging left leg and left arm in a contracted position. C.T and M.R.I are negative, doplar also negative. Blood pressure and chlorestrol normal, however does have a raised E.S.R. Awaiting angiogram.
Avatar f tn I was told that my elderly mom had a major stroke, first by a clot, they have said.. and then another issue days later(?) cause by an atrial fibrillation. Now they say the situation is critical... R sided stroke, and my mom hasn't really regained consciousness. her MRI shows one major stoke, and then a subsequent one caused by bleeding. Mannitol given and swelling of the brain has greatly subsided. Reacts to painful stimuli, by moving toes, when pinched under the arm. NG tube in place.
Avatar f tn It has to be ordered by his unit and his unit doesnt seem to care. Thank you so much for your concern on my husbands behalf. I am at a dead end and dont know what else to do.. i guess one voice isnt loud enough in this situation.. and theres nothing i can do from here in the states. If my husband were home, we would be at the doctor figuring this out. But to the army.. he is just another soldier. What scares me is, it so very easy for him to have another heat stroke under the same conditions..
Avatar n tn A women is having symptoms of a stroke but test come back negative of no stroke, what is the cause of the stroke symptoms?
Avatar n tn My mother suffered a watershed stroke during or after cardiac surgery 7 years ago. She is still paralyzed on her right side but regained other skills through my constant care and talking about memories she had lost. She is now 88 and her short-term memory is failing. My question is regarding mood swings. Does this type of stroke affect one's ability to manage anger? She is almost bi-polar with me and I don't always see the change coming.
Avatar n tn Do you mean a physical trauma to someone that is recovering from a stroke? Or memory loss due to a stroke? Strokes can definitely cause memory loss. If trauma after a stroke, what kind? Trauma to the head? How long ago was the stroke? I know that the doctors and therapists were very worried about setbacks if my husband were to fall or hit his head by banging into something in the first few months after his stroke.
Avatar f tn After spending 8 days in the hospital getting my heart back into sinus rhythm (3 cardioversions + Tikosyn) I am back to Afib (off the Tikosyn) and have a 'normal' heart rate of 100 now. I presently take Lisinopril, Digoxin, Warfarin, and Carvedilol. Is 'my present condition' truly something that should not cause concern to me. Isn't being in constant AFib causing my chances of a stroke to rise considerably???
Avatar n tn Our mom, Suzanne, who is 71 had a stroke on the back of her head, on the brain stem on May 23rd 2008. All of her memory and the part of her brain that makes her who she is, is all there. Thank god! Suzanne was diagnosed with a stroke 7 1/2 hours after being rushed to the emergency room. My family and I found this a bit odd since she had every symptom of having a stroke. And we all know that it is vital to get help and diagnosed as soon as possible, when a person apperes to have had a stroke.

1127040 tn?1289718662 Is she in care at a rehabilitative unit? What are they doing to help her recover from the stroke? Something to ask her caregivers about is pseudobulbar affect. https://www.stroke.org/en/about-stroke/effects-of-stroke/emotional-effects-of-stroke/pseudobulbar-affect This can show itself as these types of emotional outbursts. However, this is usually brief periods and you describe it going on much longer. It's been a couple of weeks since you posted this, is there any update?
Avatar m tn Hi all, its now been 2 weeks since my father had a stroke. We managed to get him onto the stroke specialist unit on monday which was brilliant news as the care there is 10 times better than on the general medical ward. He had a really bad dry mouth and started to get a few ulcers. They have totally sorted out his mouth and he generally looks much more healthier. That is the good news...
Avatar m tn Well a couple of hours later he came back and said there was no sign of a stroke and said it was a Complicated Migraine well i looked this up and a Hemiplegic Migraine fits my moms symptoms but tonight after an MRI another neurologist came and told me and my mom that she had a stroke. My mom is 47 great health. And now after the doctors said she had a migraine now all the sudden its a stroke i need to ask should i get another oppinion or what should i do im lost......
Avatar f tn We called the ambulance and when the ER doc did a CT of his head they saw he had 2 stroke areas on his brain, so the first stroke was on 10-30, we just did not know it was a stroke b/c it hit the visual cortex of his brain. The 2nd one hit his frontal lobe area and hit his language area of his brain. The injury to his neck, caused a carotid artery dissection and it threw blood clots which caused the 2 strokes. So be careful if you ever hurt your neck.
Avatar f tn I found her some hours after the stroke--not sure how many, and she was treated in a stroke unit but is now in an ordinary nursing home with rehab services. Bleeding had stopped on its own by the morning after the stroke, so no attempt to drain off excess blook from the brain was made.
Avatar f tn He is 70 years old with blood work and blood pressure of a much younger man. When you take coumadin to help prevent a stroke then learn that taking it could also cause a stroke-that's kind of scary. My husband also started taking cod liver oil daily which we read keeps those arteries nice and slippery making it hard for clots to form. He also takes bunches of different vitamins. Thanks also for the heads up about a physicians "Standard of Care" rules.
Avatar f tn Can anyone tell me what to expect when I go into a medical detox unit?? I've never been to detox and am not sure what to expect.
Avatar f tn My husband was just released from the stroke unit, after 4 days of conflicting information. Finally, a MRA with contrast was done, and they found that the pica artery was occluded. This was the reason for the imbalance he was experiencing, and the sudden onset of a severe headache. It was determined that he had a small stroke. My question is, ( because I couldn't get a straight answer from the team of interns in this big city, teaching hospital...
Avatar f tn Under NO circumstances should you use the ultrasound unit around your carotid arteries. The vibrations from the unit can dislodge plaque and cause a stroke as the debri flows upward into the bood vessels of the brain. This is the reason carotid massage (which was once a standard procedure in ER's to treat tachycardia) has been banned for the last three decades in most ER's. I have had cervical injuries and had ultrasound, and my belief is that the treatment is inappropriate.
Avatar m tn He was taken a tomography that showed, according to the doctor, an important area affected shown in white or gray in his dominating hemisphere (he is right handed) and was diagnosed as a massive ischemic stroke. The doctor told me that I should expect him to die, or, if he survived, severe sequels such as loss of independency, speech, ability to swallow, voluntary movements of his limbs, and the worse imposibility to breathe on his own.
551683 tn?1220656108 A TENS unit is a portable device you can wear on your belt or whatever. It has pads and wires. To the best of my knowledge, it sends vibrating pulses through the wires to the muscles where you put the pads. I guess you could compare it to what is sometimes used in physical therapy. (that's where I learned about it) You can control the intensity of the pulses. When they used one on my shoulders at PT, it really helped a lot. I know a portable unit is not the same, but works similarly.
551683 tn?1220656108 I wondered if anyone has a TENS unit? My doc. gave me a scrip for one, but I haven't checked on it yet. My thought is that it would help those big muscles across my upper back that hurt SOOOOOOO bad. Any thoughts on these TENS units?
630344 tn?1280104983 Just wondering if anyone has any advice on TENS Unit? Should or shouldn't try or if it worked for anyone for the pain?
Avatar f tn I have PAD as well as pain in legs from fibromyalgia. Would a TENS unit be safe and probably helpful for my leg pain (especially calves)?
