Avatar m tn my 53 yr old father had a massive left side brain stroke 4 months back. He is diabetic with high BP problem. He also underwent angioplasty 5 yrs back and has stent in his heart artery. Following the angioplasty operation, he was on a blood thinning medicine. When the artery ruptured in his brain, the blood spread rather than to get clot giving him a major brain hemorrhage. After the stroke, he has right side paralyzed. now opens his eyes but has no cognizance.
Avatar n tn Rapid assessment of acute ischemia is critical for the management of acute stroke patiens who may benefit from thrombolytics or neuroprotective therapeutics. Differentiation of acute from chronic stroke, which may all appear hyperintense on T2- Weighted Imaging(T2WI ), is essential in determining the management of patiens.
Avatar n tn The fact that the hematoma is regressing is a good sign but how long is hard to tell. Paralysis of one side of the body is one of the features of stroke. The medical management includes medications to dissolve the clot, to prevent further clot formation and to keep the risk factors like High BP, and high cholesterol under control. Rehab therapy helps in recovery from loss of physical function. Please make sure that the rehab therapy is under a trained instructor.

Avatar n tn My mom had a stroke sept/2008 (5 months ago). The stroke affected her to be left side paralyzed. A physical therapist works with her 3 times a day and she practices everyday. She walks very slowly and with difficulty by a cane and a helper. She gets Gabapentin for pain and muscle spasm. Last night she had extreme spasm almost every 5 minutes. It was very painful and uncomfortable because her left leg(affected leg) was folded completely and was not possible to relax it.

Avatar f tn My husband went to the ER with a very bad headache, slurring speech and paralysis on the right side of his body. They originally thought it was a stroke, but ruled that out. Now they are calling it a “Complicated Migraine” which has the same signs of stroke. It’s been two days and he still does not have all the feeling in his arms and legs. Is this normal?
Avatar f tn As my father is affected by Acute Brain Stem Infarct (Pontine Stem Stroke) which has all the vital functions like breathing, swallowing, sleeping, thinking, movements etc. He got the stroke on 2nd Mar 2012 and now he is able to breath by himself. Swallowing is not properly done, so Ryle's tube is inserted through the nose for his feed. He is not able to move and he is bed - ridden. On 26th Mar 2013 he vomited some black particles through the Treacheostomy tube.

20931350 tn?1695900951 Many individuals remain unaware of their hypertension until they experience complications like heart disease, stroke, or kidney problems. Understanding hypertension empowers individuals to take control of their health by recognizing the risks and making informed lifestyle choices. Regular monitoring and awareness of hypertension can lead to early detection and intervention, reducing the risk of severe health complications such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney problems.

1013028 tn?1250923267 Plavix, similar to Aspirin, is an antiplatelet drug and is effective in treating arterial clots (in cases of stroke, heart attack, peripheral arterial disease). Plavix stops platelets aggregation or prevents them from sticking together. This tends to prevent clot formation in the arteries, including coronary arteries or the arteries on the surface of heart.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone :) My Dad recently had a stroke, during which time they found occlusion in one of his legs, causing foot pain. He's currently on Oxycodone. But I'm looking for a better pain management option(s) for him. From what I've been able to ascertain, Vicodin, Celebrex, Darvo- or Percocet have seemed viable options. Can anyone share their opinions on this??? Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn My 77 year old husband had a stroke in 2006. His left carotid artery is completely blocked. He has remained with severe pain and numbness in his right foot and ankle. It has been hard for him to walk since then but has become increasingly worse as he's aged. His neurologist has sent him for many tests but they come back negative for the cause of his pain. Does anyone know of someone who has or is experiencing this?

Avatar m tn Stroke and sleep disturbances are commonly found together. Sleep apnea has been suggested to predispose someone for a stroke and a stroke can predispose someone to sleep apnea (up to 70% of people in some studies). Headaches and sleep disturbances are also strongly associated. It is important that your husband continue to work with his sleep specialist to optimize his CPAP. Additionally, he will need to optimize his medical management, i.e., hypertension.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm writing on behalf of my sister, who has been experiencing a series of puzzling health problems following a recent brain stroke. Despite multiple visits to doctors, we haven't been able to pinpoint the cause or find effective treatments. I'm hoping to gather insights or suggestions from this community. Here are some key details about her situation: - Low ferritin levels (3.5 ng/ml) - Low transferrin saturation (4.4%) - Low iron (18.
478387 tn?1210762308 I suffered a stroke after dissecting my carotid. My carotid was not operated on and closed 100%. My doc says it is safer for me to leave it alone. A partially opened artery is a great risk for strokes. You want 100% open or 100% closed. He explained to me that the other arteries in the brain can supply the brain with enough blood. I think the operation risk outweighs the gain. I know that it can be a little hard to accept. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn My dad in Indonesia, 63 years old, is currently in hospital due to stroke (brainsteam?) since a month ago. Based on what I heard, I am in usa, he is currently physically getting better. He can write and move his hand/foot. However, he still can not breath by himself and rely on the ventilator although the doctor did tracheotomy. Everytime, the ventilator is taken out and replace with the oxygen, he start having difficulty to breath.
Avatar m tn The lead doctor has informed me that my dad has had a severe stroke and is unlikely to walk again. His front neck arteries are blocked and given he isn't a fit person they cannot do anything about that. The artery to the back of the brain is ok and I guess is keeping him going. We are 3 weeks to the day into our journey and dad is still in bed in hospital and making slow progress.
Avatar n tn Your neurologist is correct with the suggestion since there is little extra than can be done aside medications and physiotherapy. Strokes cannot be reversed and management is the best possible control of risk factors to prevent such future attacks. Active management is only indicated if the stroke presents very early still in the developing stage. I would suggest continuing with the same management plan as well. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn Hi there! While most of the symptoms could be related to the pineal cyst, some of these may or may not be related. I would suggest consulting a neurosurgeon and an endocrinologist for suggestion of an appropriate management plan. Hope this helps. Take care!
356518 tn?1322263642 Previous studies had shown that smokers generally do not benefit as much as nonsmokers from pain management, mostly because their physical health is worse going into the program. Study leader Dr. W. Michael Hooten, of the Mayo Clinic, said that men showing less improvement in pain management program could also be caused by work activities and/or other poorly understood societal factors.
Avatar f tn Mom is on diabetic 2 meds and high blood pressure. She's not overweight for her height. She's in her 60s. Walks 30 minutes daily. Back in April my mom started having sensory issues like numbness and muscle tightening on one side of her body only. Few weeks went by, it didn't get better, until one day the side of her face went numb. We rushed her to ER, they didn't find anything conclusive, and said follow up with a neurologist.
Avatar m tn Were you drinking, eating or doing some activity that you normally do not do? Any medical history? Taking any medications? It is difficult to say what exactly you experienced; you should have went to the ER that night. Lastly, I would follow up with your PCP/Family Physician and request an MRI of your brain/head WITH contrast asap.
