m not a needle guy and I actually passed out and hit my head on the wall when they were putting the IV in - prior to the stress test. I freaked the nurses out. I insisted on getting the stress test done after that and the cardiologist agreed that it would be a good "worst case" scenario. So I still got up and ran on the treadmill for them. I want to say that I ran for 15 minutes. But they're monitoring you BP/HR etc so don't worry. They're not going to kill you!
When using EKG and blood pressure monitoring alone the test is variously called a cardiac stress test, exercise stress test, exercise treadmill test, exercise tolerance test, stress test or exercise ECG test. Iv taken a few Nuclear stress tests - in the past I can remember you cant eat anything
or drink but water - I was also taken off my meds for 24 hrs before the test .
It might be good to call the appointment center or doctors office and tell them -
if im not too late at this ! pretty sure it will mess up your test. though some scan tests
you can eat peanut butter ? guess it makes the dye show up better in the vains ?
I never liked these tests ! as dyes in vains - so on..
Yesterday I had a nuclear stress test and within a couple hours I felt a hot itchy spot about 6 inches long and 3 inches wide from my shoulder down. The place where the Adenesine was injected did not get red. About 4 hours later I called my drs service and one of them returned my call and we discussed whether I needed to go to the ER. I chose to take a couple benedryl instead. Today the red long blotch is still there. I went to my cardio dr.
Has anyone had this procedure? Should I be concerned about the radioactive Thallim which is injected via IV during the exercise test? I've been told it's less than an xray, but I say it's passing through my veins and going direly through my heart. How long does it stay in the body? What side affects occur from it's use? Is there anything else that can be used? Any other test that will tell you the same thing? Is this what is juse for kidney stone tests? Please help...
ve had three over the last 6 years, and one a few years before that when the test was called a thallium stress test...it is nuclear too, but it seems thallium is no longer used.
I have no known side-effects and I have gotten two false positives. The latest one that gave this was about 2 years ago, and so I underwent a catheter study and there were no blocks.
I think the bottom line is, if the nuclear stress test says you do not have blockage, you most likely don't.

s hard to miss the vein unless they are very bad at it. Drink a lot of water so your veins swell and are easy to feel. Usually they put iv in the crook of my arm, like a blood test, because I have a very good vein there. They don't hurt me anymore unless the person is inexperienced and ends up digging around in my arm with the needle to find the vein.
I had a nuclear stress test. Before the stress part of the test my blood pressure was 213. The Dr said to go ahead with the test. During the test, I got cold and white, was unable to function well, semi unconsciousness, tremors particularly on the right arm, speech slurred, headache in the temple and forehead, fatigue. After many attempts to clear me from these side effects, they gave me a the antidote to the medication that they used.
Did I have a heart attack?
I'm GBS+ and I will need to receive antibiotics twice during labor. Once at the beginning and again a few hours later. I'm getting a hep lock (spelling?). It's an entrance for an IV without having to constantly be attached to an IV. I won't have to drag a pole around with me.
I asked why it could not be put in my hand or wrst because I have small veins (am taking coumadin and get blood drawn each week and my hand is used as the technicians cannot get it drawn from my arm).....the nurse said because of a necessary procedure, (stress test) the IV had to go in my arm. I complained about the pain that evening a particularly the nest day day during the stress test when med. was put in the IV to test my heart, etc. I told them I was in extreme pain.
I recently had a Positive EKG/Cardiolyte IV Stress Test. I then had the Heart Cath that proved the Stress Test false positive. This happened exactly the same 4 yrs. ago. Both times this was indicated because of chest pain. I do have the common risk factors: High BP & cholesterol (contolled with Meds) & heredity. What next? Why do I still have chest pain?
They admitted me despite excellent ekg, bp, heart rate, and blood enzyme tests. This morning i had chemical stress test followed by nuclear imaging, and echocardiogram. All of those came back normal and they released me.
I'm feeling much better but still with some weakness and pressure in shoulder. Could i still have a blockage, despite the negative test results? What other issues may be indicated by my symptoms? Could this simply be stress?
