Stress test heart function

Common Questions and Answers about Stress test heart function

Avatar f tn Breathlessness on exertion could be due to the decreased lung function. Again in cardiac disorders the heart is unable to pump the blood adequately, more so when subjected to stress like exercise. Certain systemic disorders like anemia, diabetes, vitamin deficiencies and thyroid disorders can cause these symptoms. So, besides EKG and treadmill test, lung function tests could further help in evaluation. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
512736 tn?1211343352 4-16-08 at cardiologist office and had an angina attack and was told I need a stress test. I have had these tests before and it will be fine and 2 weeks later I am being rushed to emergency for stents. Why did this not show on stress test? They are expensive. Thank You for your help!
Avatar m tn These are probably the best tests to have in order to build a picture of the anatomy of your heart. I take it your ECG is fine and so I doubt if a stress test will reveal much, if anything. With just shortness of breath and no other symptoms, it was likely show no problems with your heart. There could also be a very simple problem such as a lack of Iron or other substance in the blood.
Avatar f tn An echo looks at the structure and function of the heart, whereas the stress test was looking for blockages causing your symptoms. Having a leaky valve can predispose to certain abnormal heart rhythms which may have caused your palpitations, weak heart muscle (AKA heart failure) can cause leg swelling and shortness of breath -- neither of these things are detectable with a treadmill stress test unless there was an echo done at the same time.
Avatar f tn When using EKG and blood pressure monitoring alone the test is variously called a cardiac stress test, exercise stress test, exercise treadmill test, exercise tolerance test, stress test or exercise ECG test. Heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, EKG, and how tired you feel are monitored during the test.
Avatar m tn the dubotomine stress test prior to the stenting said it showed positive for ischemia affecting heart wall in three places. EF was 70.19%. What was notable about this test was that I am perfectly normal at low and medium dose of the dubotamine. Maybe I should lust live like that - low and medium pulse? All the grim looking stats came at high dose with pulse at 120. That's high for an 81-year-old? It would take me a fair sprint along the road to get it up to that level.
Avatar f tn after a minutes rest we carried on at 3 minutes my oxygen went from 100 back down to 84 and heart rate went to 146. When returning to test, my heart rate dropped to 44 and my oxygen level went to 96.This was not a strenuous test just a walking test, I have had a problem with breathlessness and fast heart rate when i do little exertion ie:- walking up stairs for around 10 months now, kept complaining to my gp who was not remotely interested.
Avatar f tn Can someone please help me understand my recent Stress test findings: Images show mild intensity small-sized defect, located in the distal anterior and apical wall. Rest images show no change of the defect compared to the stress images. This defect suggests infarction vs. artifact in the wall. Gated SPECT imaging demonstates abnormal septal motion of the distal anterior and apical wall. The left ventricular ejection fraction was calculated to be 56%.
3730660 tn?1347988330 He has not had any problems until now. The family doctor did a stress test and a rest test on him last week and sent him to a cardiologist and a pulminologist for next month. His regular heart doctor will be consulted by the other to see what he thinks they can do. The cardiologist said that he is going to put him on the transplant list also. I guess my question is, will the fibulator do any good at this point?. He is also on lasix as of yesterday.
974371 tn?1424653129 From what you describe, it sounds as if you had a positive echo treadmill stress test, based on some changes on your EKG, as well as some changes in the motion of your heart as seen by exercise echocardiogram. Generally, the stress test is a screening test for coronary artery disease. The next step is a coronary angiogram, where they will be able to visualize the arteries that supply blood to your heart (coronary arteries), and determine if there are any blockages or narrowing.

671690 tn?1225808115 With the help of medication I have lead a pretty good life. But recently in September an Echo showed a decrease of 12% in heart function. There were no other signs for this. No increase in gradient, or any type of blockage. Everything looked fine except for the loss of function. I have been taking an ACE inhibitor, but have not seen an improvement. I can feel the decrease in function. It makes me slow and very very tired. Its difficult to do everyday chores, especially going to work.
Avatar n tn for pre-testing for ablation scan showed alot of structual damage to the heart and my mitral valve has adhered to the back of my haert so they scrapped the ablation procedure because they said it wouldn`t improve my condition. My EF is 13-15 percent and my vo2 stress test came back with 14. Do you feel that I should be put on a transplant list if I qualify ?
Avatar n tn Usually a cath procedure is done after a stress test to open any blocked vessels discovered with a stress test as well as measure any gradient pressures and intra-chamber, vessel pressures, etc.!. Are you having chest pains that can not be relieved with medication? Pain with exertion and relief with rest?
Avatar n tn I do have trouble managing my weight (200 lbs at 5 ft 6 in) but my blood pressure and cholesterol have always been very good. I discussed this with my doctor again in January and she ordered a cardiac stress test with the echo. I was surprised to find that I failed the test. Conclusions: "Borderline hypokinesis mid & apical lateral segments. Echocardiographic evidence of ischemia. Exercise stress test without ECG evidence of ischemia. Abnormal regional wall motion with stress.
Avatar n tn t agree on why I did so well on the stress test. Q. Can some one do this well on a stress test, ie 13.5 minutes and still have major heart problems? What's next?
Avatar m tn Had a Nuclear Cadio Stress test done, and was wondering what the following items mean: “post stress images show severely reduced to no radiotracer activity in large area of lateral inferolateral walls”, and “there is a regional wall motion abnormality with severe hypokinesis of lateral and inferolateral walls”?
Avatar f tn My husband just received his results from recent stress test. (He is 36 y/o. Father had first double bypass at 37 and died at 56, so there is a family history of heart issues.) Stress spect cardiolite images decreased cardiolite uptake in anterior and inferior walls. Spect cardiolite scan was positive for moderate amount of ischemia of anterior and inferior walls. Comments: 1. Anterior defect/possible soft tissue/breast attenuation artifact, 2.
Avatar m tn I had an abnormal stress test last week, and I had a heart attack many years ago. My cardiologist said he thinks I should have a Heart Cath, but is leaving it up to me. He said something that was confusing to my husband and me. He said my heart performed good during the stress test but that was bad. Sounded contradictory to us.
907729 tn?1244174363 I have been having chest pains and shortness of breath and the feeling that I am full. I am on many meds. I had another stress test and I am just not real sure of what the results all mean. Tried talking to my doctor, but he didn't explain it real well. he just said he wants to do another catherization. I was wondering if you can explain my results for the nuclear Spect Imaging Study? Findings: 1. Left ventricle appears at least borderline enlarged.
Avatar f tn I recently had a adenosine/thallium stress test which was adnormal. Do not understand what this means... Perfusion Findings: Moderate sized equivocally abnormal apical, anterior and inferior partially reversible defect consistent with ischemia in the territory typical of the distal RCA and or LAD.
Avatar n tn she has had no symptoms of heart problems but has diabetes). She was the 4th person to have the test on this equipment. According to the results stress images reveal a large sized perfusion abnormality of moderate to severe intensity in the lateral and anterolateral walls . Stress images also showed a medium sized perfusion abnormality of mild to moderate intensity in the interoseptal and inferiolateral walls. Grade V stage.
