stress-test

Avatar n tn An Echo Stress Test or a Nuclear Stress Test, if the doctor is suspecting coronary artery disease. However, a regular stress may be sufficient in stable patients or those with a low suspicion of coronary artery disease who are being assessed for exercise tolerance (for example, prior to undergoing a structured exercise or rehab program). If you are/were experiencing chest pains an EKG Stress test is not reliable and probably should have had a Nuclear Stress Test.
Avatar m tn A cardiac stress test is a medical test performed to evaluate arterial blood flow to (and indirectly the amount of oxygen that will reach) the myocardium (heart muscle) during physical exercise, compared to blood flow while at rest. A 11 MET exercise is very good and it correlated to heart rate (120-age)...not blood pressure. Because you are a smoker I am surprised you can do 11 METs.
Avatar m tn To put this really simply, it means there is heart disease at work. Reversible means the blockages are not total, and no heart muscle is damaged, so intervention with stents or bypass will make things much improved. If the blockages are not severe enough, they may try to help with medication. I think you will be required for an Angiogram next to see the exact extent of the disease.
Avatar f tn Does having a 45% ejection fraction on the stress test means one has a heart disease? Other symptoms includes chest pain, SOB when climbing upstairs, nearly syncopal event every time SOB and tachycardia happens. Stress test showed severely tachycardic, nearly syncopal episode on exertion and 45% ejection fraction. Ecg showed Borderline left atrial abnormality and the echo, according to the readiologist, showed increased in bulk. (Which was neglected on the final report).
Avatar m tn Each test is progressivly more accurate. An EKG is about 50% accurate, a normal stress test is about 65% accurate and a nuclear stress test is about 85% accurate overall but if you back out the false positives, it will find significant heart disease 97% of the time. Having said that, are you working with your doctor to find a cause other than heart disease?
Avatar m tn I then had an echo done and it was discovered that I had mitral valve prolapse, but normal blood flow. A stress test was ordered (abnormal) and then a nuclear stress was ordered (also abnormal) and there was evidence of a "mild to moderate" blockage. My doctor recommended that I have an angiogram done. Here's what I'm struggling with.
Avatar n tn Had an angiogram in 2009 showed 50%blockage. Had a stress test 2 weeks ago suggesting an 80% blockage. The angiogram was completely clear 2 days ago. Have lost over 100 lbs. between the 2 tests. Could that cause the first blockage to disappear and show the stress test unreliable? Could undiagnosed thyroid disease be an unerlying problem since ekgs are abnormal?
Avatar n tn I assume you had some kind of stress test? either stress echo or a nuclear scan? I say this because unless you match the heart motion in 2 states, relaxed vs stressed, you can't tell if it's reversible or not. So, you have 2 good words here 'mild' and 'reversible'. Mild means the heart wall is not affected much and reversible means the lack of blood flow is only occurring when the heart is under load showing there is sufficient flow at rest.
369861 tn?1306275686 Terri Hi. Normally they will have you stop taking any heart medicine or diuretics the day of your stress test because they want to see what your heart can handle without it. Did they do an echocardiogram too. This would have been done before and after the treadmill part? After the test is done you are normally able to go back to taking your medicine. Is your BP and HR ok now?
Avatar m tn I had asked this question before, but never really god an answer and I haven't done this yet so I wanted to see what the proper medical opinion was. I'm 35, have a history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart palpitations (I'm on medicine for all three). I'm considering taking a scuba diving class and I've seen various recommendations stating a person with a history of heart disease MAY have to have a stress test before scuba diving.
Avatar n tn I can produce a numbert of different opinions what is the appropriate heart rate and so on with exercising. The best method for someone with a heart issue is to have a stress test. A stress test is oftened done for the purpose of learning the degree of tolerance/risk one can safely do. The rule of thumb stated is not recommended for someone who has heart issues. You will be safe to engage in exercising according to METs.
Avatar m tn I've been to the hospital several times, had 4 angioplasty, nuclear stress test, echocardiogram, regular stress test! My symptoms happen when im just sitting around. I was at the zoo the other day and was walking around , did 10 miles, not one problem. I'm gonna check with my doctor this Wednesday, hopefully he will have some answers.
Avatar f tn I am getting a nuclear stress test done on Monday. I wish that they could have done more testing at the time however the cardiologist seemed frustrated and angry, maybe not with me. I am really unsure why, actually. I'm very concerned and it will be good to get to that bottom of it. I have increased my fluid intake. Thanks for your response.
Avatar m tn I have no symptoms of heart problems, but I have a family history of heart disease. Is a nuclear stress test advisable or is there another test that would be more appropriate given the fact that I'm asymptomatic. I understand that the radiation exposure in a nuclear stress test is 250 times that of a chest xray. I'm concerned about the risk of exposure to that level of radiation given the fact that I have no signs of heart problems at this point.
Avatar m tn The risk during a nuclear stress test is extremely small for a heart attack, etc. or any adverse effect. To ensure your full safety, this test will be performed in laboratories that are fully equipped and very carefully and professionally monitor of the patients during the test and this will assure the detection and treat any abnormal conditions that may develop during the course of testing.
974371 tn?1424653129 From what you describe, it sounds as if you had a positive echo treadmill stress test, based on some changes on your EKG, as well as some changes in the motion of your heart as seen by exercise echocardiogram. Generally, the stress test is a screening test for coronary artery disease. The next step is a coronary angiogram, where they will be able to visualize the arteries that supply blood to your heart (coronary arteries), and determine if there are any blockages or narrowing.
Avatar f tn You cannot rule out clogged arteries without angiography, but at least you should ask for a stress test or stress echo test, as those tests may indicate coronary artery disease. You may have too low blood pressure, and it's important that you check the blood pressure now, preferably with a 24 hour monitoring. I suspect that your doctor initiated massive medication to control your serious hypertension of 200/120.
Avatar m tn Unless, the information you post is not complete, there is no justification for any concern. The 81 score is medically insignificant, and would not be grounds for a stress test.
Avatar m tn For the past 2 weeks I have been having really achy arms and occasional chest pain, If the test comes back normal would this require further testing to totally rule out heart disease? As for the achy arms, probably related to muscle strain and occasional chest pain is probably gas or chondocondritis. If the test is negative, it's negative and no further tests will be done. 3. Would the doctor have called me the same or next day if he found any heart disease?
Avatar m tn I just got a stress test because of some pains I had in my chest. On a followup appointment with my cardiologist, he indicated that my test results were normal. In fact, the first pages summary of my results looked ok. Here are conclusions: 1. Normal exercise dual-isotope myocaridal perfusion study. 2. Normal gated SPECT left vetricular wall motion study. 3. Normal gated SPECT left ventricular ejection fraction. 4. Negative exercise electrocardiogram. 5. Moderate exercise tolerance. 6.
Avatar n tn Would a clear angiogram 2.5 years ago and a clear nuclear stress test last year indicate good heart health. I sometimes get bad shoulder pain an I worry it is related to my heart.
Avatar f tn Can someone please help me understand my recent Stress test findings: Images show mild intensity small-sized defect, located in the distal anterior and apical wall. Rest images show no change of the defect compared to the stress images. This defect suggests infarction vs. artifact in the wall. Gated SPECT imaging demonstates abnormal septal motion of the distal anterior and apical wall. The left ventricular ejection fraction was calculated to be 56%.
