Avatar m tn I had a kidney transplant June 2014. Shortly after I started having shortness of breath and significant leg fatigue on any exertion.. Many xrays and tests to determine cause. All lung xrays, CT scan of lungs, breathing perfusion tests normal. Heart echo normal. BNP 800+. Chemical Stress test results show abnormality in typical vasculation distribution of distal right coronary artery (small amount of scar) and mid left descending coronary artery (small amount of scar). No ischemia. LV EF is 40%.
Avatar f tn I am scheduled for a nuclear stress test in a couple of weeks as a general evaluation for getting on the kidney transplant list. Will the dye that is injected have any negative affect on my kidneys? I would like to keep whatever is left of my kidney function (about 20%) for as long as possible.
Avatar n tn It depends on a number of factors such as location, blood type, etc. I waited for my first kidney transplant only for 2 months (I was in a children's hospital) yet the 2nd time around I waited for over 6 years. To me it is not a matter of how long you wait but the quality of the kidney you eventually get and how well you are doing on dialysis while you wait. As for discussions with transplant recipients, I joined this wonderful group called http://www.transplantalliance.
Avatar f tn The Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) system was implemented February 27, 2002 to prioritize patients waiting for a liver transplant. MELD is a numerical scale used for adult liver transplant candidates. The range is from 6 (less ill) to 40 (gravely ill). The individual score determines how urgently a patient needs a liver transplant within the next three months. Typically it will take a minimum MELD score of 15 to even be put on a waiting list for a transplant.
Avatar n tn for pre-testing for ablation scan showed alot of structual damage to the heart and my mitral valve has adhered to the back of my haert so they scrapped the ablation procedure because they said it wouldn`t improve my condition. My EF is 13-15 percent and my vo2 stress test came back with 14. Do you feel that I should be put on a transplant list if I qualify ?
Avatar m tn Do you think a low protein diet can stabilize a patient with stage four kidney disease? I have had stage 4 kidney disease for almost five years. I have maintained a creatinine level of 2.9 through diet. I watch my potassium, under 2,000 mg & have stopped eating animal protein. I still eat eggs & cheese but other than that no dairy. I think it is a small price to pay to avoid a kidney transplant. My weight is stable under this regimen after years of yo yo dieting.
Avatar n tn I'm sorry I don't have any real advice for you, but I wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you & your husband and hope that all is well soon! Be well!
5536514 tn?1373500002 It does not sound like that is the position you are in. Many liver transplant patients have kidney problems both before and after transplant so it is not uncommon for hepatologists to manage both. Please don't waste your time and stress yourself over something that is not a real issue. Get a doctor you can communicate with then focus on your next steps. Good Luck.
Avatar n tn It could be argued that no immunosuppressive drug is good in an HCV setting but recently steroids are generally not recommended post liver transplant for HCV. I would guess that the same applies to kidney transplant recipients who are HCV positive but his physician should be better able to advise you. It's not clear whether your Father had HCV before his kidney transplant or if he acquired it with his kidney transplant.
1047522 tn?1258145704 Transplant is already listed as a treatment option on the Kidney Tracker. You have removed it from your tracker through customized settings. We'll add all the other ones you've requested to the Kidney Tracker and let you know when they're available.
Avatar m tn It can take some time for the immune system to produce enough antibodies for the antibody test to detect, and this time period can vary from person to person. This time period is commonly referred to as the “window period.” Most people will develop detectable antibodies within 2 to 8 weeks (the average is 25 days). Even so, there is a chance that some individuals will take longer to develop detectable antibodies.
Avatar f tn Not yet but listed on the transplant list for fancreas/kidney only list. They will not do it one at a time for the obvious other conditions. I was told to begin seriousdly thinking about dialysis.
Avatar m tn Something called Bowen Therapy, or craniosacral therapy may help more than chiropractors which tend to focus on issues of the spine and bones, but again I would be hesitant to outlay a bunch of cash in hope of a cure. What it would more likely do is settle the system so there isn't as much pain or discomfort. When I went for Bowen Therapy when they did the point on the kidney I got shooting electrical type sensations. Not horrible, but noticable. This tells me it does something.
Avatar f tn If you are on the liver transplant waiting list and test positive for alcohol or illegal drugs, you will be placed on inactive status or removed from the liver transplant waiting list for six months and you will lose any time you have accumulated. You will be required to attend counseling for drug and alcohol abuse, and we will continue to perform random drug tests throughout the transplant process.
456995 tn?1206589507 Hello Everyone! My mom has Kidney failure and Hepatitis. She was born with one kidney, which failed, had a transplant in 1985 (I was 5 years old). During that time, they didn't test blood the way they do now, and she ended up being infected with Heptatitis. So fast forward twenty some odd years - she's done well, and has far surpassed what the doctors thought should would.

Avatar n tn in most cases the barely functioning existing kidneys are not removed because this has been shown to increase the rates of surgical morbidities, the kidney is usually placed in a location different from the original kidney. The transplant surgery lasts about three hours. Living donor kidneys normally require 3-5 days to reach normal functioning levels Light activity at home is encouraged and movement of legs is important to prevent formation of blood clots.
Avatar m tn thank you so much....we are giving her treatment.but m very afraid i want her to be perfactly all right...n i have heard that dialysis is a very painful process soooo............

Avatar f tn I have a stress test today they put me stripes in my belly to monitor the babys heart rate. They did it for 20 minutes and they said everything looks good they said if they see something weird you can be there for up to 2 hours.
Avatar f tn Based on the heart problems, as well as the diabetes, and strokes, I am fairly certain that it would be too risky to attempt a transplant, even from a living donor. Some people do very well on dialysis though, good luck to you and your father no matter what he chooses.
Avatar m tn I am 26 year old. My kidney transplant 4 year complete but critinine 3.4. how to do high critinine normal range.
