In a low risk pregnancy a non stress test or stress test would only be warranted if their was a concern. However diabetics (both gestational and non) have a higher rate of stillborn babies (still rare, but better to be safe) so its common practice to keep a closer eye as the pregnancy nears the end.
Can you tell me what it indicates if a person could not get their heart rate up to the desirable number during an echo stress test during the treadmill portion. It is a male age 36 with insulin dependent diabetes since age 6. He has a tendency to have slow heart rate and could not exceed the mid 150's during the treadmill no matter how they kept making him work harder. He is 5'7" and weighs about 155 and is very active.
Anyone know?
Again in cardiac disorders the heart is unable to pump the blood adequately, more so when subjected to stress like exercise. Certain systemic disorders like anemia, diabetes, vitamin deficiencies and thyroid disorders can cause these symptoms. So, besides EKG and treadmill test, lung function tests could further help in evaluation.

There is a non stress test AND a stress test.... There are different reasons for both. During a non stress test they hook you up to a monitor and just keep an eye on baby's movements and heart rate... During a stress test they hook you up to a monitor but they induce contractions to see how baby reacts.

With his open-heart surgery being so recent, with him being diabetic, and he has never had any symptoms of his illness - should this recent test be looked into further by your opinion?
I'm certainly no expert at all, but from what I've read stress and depression can be caused by diabetes, not the other way around. However, like I said, no expert.
s why they are doing the cath. I have no blockages yet have EF 17% and stress test images show severe damage and restricted perfusion. If it is a blockage, and they can stent it, you should be pretty much back to "normal" shortly after.

s lab work (3/30/11) I do NOT have diabetes. The neuropathy began right after the stress test on 1/6/11 and has lasted almost four months. Another culprit is the beta blockers (Toporal XL) which I took for a month in December. Theory is that it blocked my thyroid. I am now on 180 mg Armour thyroid trying to restore normalcy in my thyroid function. I take no other meds. I have always enjoyed excellent health until the events described. My heart is fine.
Maybe I should have not asked for the Stress Test and listened to my Doctor. He suggested we either redo the test or refer to a Cardiologist at teaching hospital
As soon as I eft the office I went for a a nice 40 minute run no chest pain or shortnes of breath was noted. Should I increase my dosage of baby aspirin? do you think they will recommend another cardiolite test or angiogram?
I think I might have to wait a while for the appoinment.

I went for my first doctor appointment and they took blood and had me drink a super sugary drink and wait their for an hour to test for diabetes. They called me yesterday and said the test was high and they want me to come take a three hour one to see if I have diabetes. They also said I can't eat after ten the night before I go. Could I have diabetes because I'm pregnant? If so will it go away? I'm over weight, Im barely 5'1 and I weigh 180.
Who has taken the glucose diabetes test? How did it go? I'm kinda nervous what if I do come out positive for it . Did your pregnancy still continue normal and did ur baby have any complications ?
I had a thalium treadmill stress test. They ended the test only 2 minutes into the test. They said my blood pressure went up and my heart rhythm spead up. I wanted to know how high my bp went up to and how fast my heart rate went up. It's the second test they cut short. I have 2 enlarged chambers (which two I don't know), a triscuspid leak, 2 little leaks in my mitral valve and the prolapse. What all does that mean? I'm 61 and have high bp and diabetes on insulin.
During a stress test your blood pressure and EKG is constantly monitored. If you feel any discomfort at any time, you tell them to stop the machine and you will not have any damage. It is no different to going for a walk. Discomforts quickly stop when you relax.
Ace inhibitors will not affect your performance and they are not going to cause harm.
The stress test will give an accurate reading of your general fitness which includes the fitness of your heart.
Anybody have any experience with this? My test came back high and I'm going for the follow up test tomorrow. Very nervous.
Depending on your numbers from your first one, you might be able to talk to your doctor about going straight to being treated for gestational diabetes without a 3 hour confirmation test. That would involve a very strict no-sugar diet and weekly blood tests through finger prick to monitor your blood sugar levels.
If you're asking can you just ignore failing the first test and go on as before, no, that's not a good idea.
