Avatar m tn All dogs have a cycle of approximately 3 weeks. They are not ready to mate until about 4-7 days right in the middle of the 3 week cycle. So that's the middle week. When she shows signs of her vulva reddening and swelling that is when she is most ready. That's true -she will definitely show the male if she is not ready. She will snap at him if he tries anything. If she does that, don't scold her. Doing that is natural, won't do him any harm.
Avatar m tn No, it is not normal for any dog to have these issues, I would recommend a visit to the vet to have a set of hip x-rays done. Pit bulls and their mixes are some of the most overbred dogs there are today, and the bad part is that the people who breed them are not looking to improve the breed, they are either looking to have a litter of puppies to sell, or their unneutered or unspayed dog has either impregnated a neighborhood dog or gotten pregnant by a neighborhood dog.
Avatar f tn We have a new dog have had her for about three four months, she loves people witch is a problem because our other dog is very protective, we have signs up on our gates and everything, but these teenages in our street keep cming up to pur gate and patting our pup i know i might seem like im over reacting but i dont want people just coming up to our gate and patting our dog because when where not home she finds ways to get out and i have kind of figured out why now, im so angry and fristrated, i w
Avatar m tn She will tell you, in her own way, that she is ready and the signs will be unmistakable. In the meantime, feed her whatever she wants to eat and spoil her beyond all reason. Maybe take her for rides to places that she enjoys going and just sit and take in the scenery together. Please keep us up to date on her condition.
Avatar f tn The pigment in my 2 year old dogs nose is fading, his nose was jet black now it has a pink hue to it, is this normal?
Avatar n tn The symptoms you have mentioned, along with the dogs age, remind me of the same thing that my 15 year old yorkie was doing. She was diagnosed with kidney disease. Decreased appetite and trembling are both signs of kidney failure. Your dog may or may not have kidney issues, but the trembling, (shaking) you are describing, is a sign of pain or discomfort. Your dog really needs to be evaluated by a vet. Please insist on bloodwork to determine your dogs kidney and liver functions.
Avatar f tn t know how long your bird will be suffering since every bird is an individual. Fear and stress are part of all animals make up and defense system. In the wild, birds need a long memory to avoid repetition of an undesirable or dangerous occurrence. Your bird may also be very afraid of your dogs for a long time or forever. It is best to keep them separated at all times and to provide extra attention and behavioral nourishment to try to help your bird get over the traumatic experience.

Avatar m tn The long and the shot of things is that for HIV diagnosis there is simply no substitute for testing. In addition, sometimes after an exposure that, in retrospect, one wishes they had not had, persons tend to examine themselves and be far more attuned to genital sensations than in periods when they are not concerned. This in turns leads to noticing what turn out to be normal sensations that might have been not noticed or ignored at other times. With respect to your situation: 1.
Avatar m tn She cannot have worms, as she is on a monthly pill that the vet assures me kills all types of worms etc......she seems in some stress.....she still has a great appetite, no fever, does not seem to be in pain, or have a urinary tract inection as I have seen her behavior with one of those a few summers ago....... Avatar m tn In 1998, needed to stop taking Buspar because the sound of dogs barking was driving me bonkers. I would bang on the window trying to stop the neibores dog until breaking the glass. The anxiety and depression I had and was trying to aleviate from a devorce was being linked to dogs barking and the sound of people eating. I started to then and still to this day wear paper earplugs and head phones night and day with volume blaring to block out what should be normal sounds.
Avatar n tn Seizure activity and signs of neurological problems are common in dogs that are in the end stages of kidney failure due to the buildup of toxins in the body, so it's entirely possible that what you observed was the result of the kidney failure.
1757678 tn?1312732798 The problems with false pregnancy in dogs is that once they have one, they are prone to having others. While it seems harmless enough, it can be psychologically traumatic for them as they search for puppies that don't exist, and if they produce a large amount of milk, they can develop mastitis. There also appears to be a link between false pregnancy and pyometra, a life-threatening infection of the uterus.
Avatar f tn This may just be a passing stomach upset, it may be a serious infection, or it may be pancreatitis, or something else.....it's impossible for me to tell you. Probably the best thing to do is to withhold food altogether for 24 hours NO FOOD AT ALL. Just water.
Avatar n tn but this is very dangerous. Please try, in future never to forget to provide your dogs with water, or access to clean fresh water. They seriously can DIE of dehydration. Even in cool weather. A dog needs water every single day. Chronic dehydration can and often does, lead to kidney failure. Keep an eye on your dog now, and make sure she is OK over the next few days. If she vomits again,or shows any other signs of illness, or unusual tiredness, please take her to a vet.
Avatar f tn s about 93 degrees already at 10 am in my part of the country so if it is hot, this could be happening. Dogs can get urinary tract infections and straining to pee is one of the signs. That she is still playful always makes me feel better. :>) I would go ahead and call your vet to check in. Since she's a pup and getting treatments/vaccines for different things, you want to see if this is normal from that or something to be concerned about.
Avatar n tn minerals, however, I have been administering 1000 iu/day of Vit E. I know Clemmons recommends 2000 iu/day in dogs w/DM but my vet is wary of this dosage. What do you think? Will it hurt him or cause any other conditions? He weighs 70lbs. I was told by a vet nutritionist that it can affect his vit K absorption and cause a coagulation problem. Also, I am wondering what you think about the 2 drugs that Clemmons recommends from WestLab: EACA & NAC? Have they worked on any dogs?
Avatar f tn Fingers crossed it's soon the dogs doing my head in haha.
Avatar n tn Bile is usually green or yellow, in our dogs experiences. If it was white and foamy, it could be frothy mucus...hard to really say. If it was a one time thing, just watch him carefully for other signs of distress such as abnormal panting, unusual behaviors such as rolling repeatedly or getting into the "praying" position often, diarrhea, not eating, or if he seems to be biting or bothering at his flanks, or tummy bloating.
Avatar f tn s my opinion, but an opinion I would say I must have tested may times in my many years of life, and love of humans and dogs. So I give my view based on personal experience. There is nothing in your description that sends out an alarm to me. Stop worrying and enjoy !
Avatar f tn Dogs, ugh. Trash diggers. I was walking one time with my dog and we walked by a dumpster and I wasn't paying attention. I look down and she had a whole fried egg in her mouth. Like, really? Dogs are not like humans when it comes to food. They can even eat raw chicken safely if they are a healthy dog! (not that you should ever give it to them). Dogs systems have evolved to process raw meat.
Avatar f tn I honestly do not beleive that there was any chance of your contracting rabies in this case. Rabid dogs are aggressive, and do not behave like 'normal' dogs. This is because rabies infects the brain and causes severe malfunction in the neuro-pathways. It is contracted by being bitten by another rabid animal, or by eating or drinking from the same source. In your case, there is extremely little to no chance you were exposed.
